[OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 27] – Name words to describe Andrei Kirilenko’s playing style, exactly, you can’t just choose one. Kirilenko can shoot, he can drive, and he can score, as well as shut down the opposing team’s top player. In Oklahoma City last night Kirilenko was unstoppable as he made a season high 20-22 field goals, including 5-7 from beyond the arc for 47 points, scoring his jersey number.

The game started fairly evenly, with the Jazz slowing pulling away near the end of the first quarter due to drives from Kirilenko and, interestingly, backup-backup center Jarron Collins. From this quarter on the Jazz never trailed one, despite barely winning the 3rd quarter 24-22. Forward/Center Andrew Bogut got into foul trouble early in the game and never really got back into the flow, only playing 7 minutes, scoring 4 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.

The Hornets made the decision to start Speedy Claxton at point guard instead of rookie Chris Paul, and Claxton made the most of the start, scoring a team high 30 points, but on a ugly 13-41 shooting, but he also managed to dish out 6 assists. Other players in double figures on the Hornets were forward PJ Brown with 11 and JR Smithwith 15. The Jazz double figure scorers were Kirilenko, Deron Williams and Jeff McInnis with 11, and Collins with 12.

Chris Anderson: 1
Andrew Bogut: 1
PJ Brown: 1

Gordon Giricek: 1

Speedy is one sick ballhog. To jack up 41 shot attempts in 26 minutes, that takes effort.

[DALLAS, Jan. 28] – The first time these two met was the beginning of the season when the Jazz topped the Mavericks 177-163, tonight’s game however was more down to earth, especially the Mavericks, who could not even break 90 points.

The star for the game for the Jazz was Udonis Haslem with 21 points and the Mavs’ were point guard Jason Terry with 20. Neither team had much luck from beyond the arc, thought the Jazz did manage 25% shooting while the Mavs only 9.1%.

The Mavs had many chances to put the ball in, on many occasions players like Michael Finley and Terry were able to break away from their defenders, but kept on missing the open shots. “We did not have a good night shooting, there were many open looks and we just couldn’t put the ball in the hoop… everybody just had an off-night,” said backup guard Jerry Stackhouse, who finished with 11. “We made them pay for missing shots, they had good looks, but we managed to get in their faces and then grab the board and go into transition. Our post game tonight was really good and we were able to feed the ball down low to [/b]Andrew [Bogut][/b] and Udonis all night long, Jason [Terry] and Darko [Milicic] both also played really well in the post. I was really pleased with how the whole team performed.” – Jazz coach Jerry Sloan commented in the post-game press conference.

The Jazz again shot an absurd 64% percent from the field, making 48-75 shots, and continue to lead the league in field goal percentage. The Mavs took 18 more shots, but made 9 less shots, including 3 less from downtown. The Jazz though only managed 7-14 from the line while the Mavs sank 10-14 for 71.4%. The Mavericks also grabbed 22 offensive rebounds for a total of 40 for the game, out-rebounding the Jazz by 6.

The Jazz play the Spurs on January 30 for their last game of January, the Jazz have not faced the Spurs yet this year and the key matchup will be rookie Bogut facing off against one of the best players in the NBA, Tim Duncan.

Andrew Bogut: 1
Dirk Nowitzki: 1

7 players in double figures, it ain't nothing the Mavs could do with that. Nice win against a tough team.

I still can't believe that Claxton, of all people took 41 shots. Those are Kobe numbers.

I guess he still thinks he's at Hofstra or something :eh: then again, he probably never took that many during a college game either

[SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 30]Devin Brown held the ball in his heads during the dying seconds of the game against the Utah Jazz and his team down 95-93. He drives and takes the contact from Jazz center Andrew Bogut and guard Gordon Giricek, and manages to get the shot off somehow, but he does not get the whistle. But out of nowhere Spurs guard Brent Barry comes in and tries to tip the ball in, but it hits the back of the iron and clanked into the hands of Bogut just as the buzzer sounded, ending the Spurs’ hope of winning.

This game was the first in 6 weeks for Jazz rookie forward Charlie Villanueva, who broke a finger against the Portland Trailblazers in December and was out for 6 weeks, he will be 100% healed soon, the team doctor said. In his comeback game, Villanueva played 13 minutes while scoring 5 points as well as grabbing 2 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists, stealing the ball 3 times, and blocking 2 shots. “It felt pretty good to be back again, I’m not 100% right now, but I think in about a week I will be. I did pretty good on defense, but offensively I could use some more improvement, but no doubt its good to be playing again,” Villanueva told press after the game.

This was the first time the two teams have met this season, and the game started out tight, with the Spurs running out to a 23-19 lead at the end of the first. However the second was a complete flip, as the Jazz won it 23-19 and the two teams went into the half tied at 42. In the 3rd was when Villanueva first came in, and he played well, blocking Barry and even Tim Duncan on one occasion, another note off the bench was forward Darko Milicic, who again posted 10 points on solid 5-6 shooting, and also grabbed 3 rebounds.

The end of the game was a frenzy, with the Jazz going on a run and leading 93-87, backup point guard Beno Udrih grabbed a rebound and ran the length of the court, then jacked up and made a three. On the ensuing play, Giricek’s pass hit Bogut in the back and Rasho Nesterovic threw it again to Udrih for yet another three to pull the game to a tie. The third time was not a charm however as the Jazz were able to inbound and forced the Spurs to foul. Though Bogut had missed all 3 of his free throws up to them, he was calm and sank the 2 game winning free throws.

The Spurs played 12th man Sean Marks for 2 minutes in the 4th in which Marks scored 2 points and grabbed 2 offensive rebounds.

Udonis Haslem: 1 2
Emanuel Ginobili: 1
