From the sliders discussion regarding gamespeed

Am I the only one who plays with gamespeed 80 here?? i really dont enjoy playing very slow basketball. There is no challenge for me. Anybody here played POP Warrior Within or GTA Vice City? Coz the logic is the same. You have the "slow" ability so that everything moves in slow motion and you have an advantage. Why? because slow gameplay makes you think faster and react faster than the CPU and the game becomes easier. I really don't give a damn if it is more realistic. I just adjust the time. For instance. When playing at speed 80, I set my clock at 6 minutes. It's like playing for 12 minutes at a faster pace. Try it guys. Once you get the hang of it, you'll realize it is more challenging and better. that's exactly what i was about to say, we care about realsim and that's why we have our game speed at a R-E-A-L-I-S-T-I-C level

I play at 76 speed with 9 minute quarters. My games are stil pretty realistic statistically (with the exception of course of offensive rebounds), generally in the high 90's to low 100's with shooting percentages in the low to mid 40's on average. If you are trying to get realistic stats in 12 minutes though you have to pull down the overall game speed or it just can't work.

Enlighten me on what's so realistic about players moving at senior citizen speed? The game flow is way too unrealistic in the 30's or whatever I see most of the sliders in here for. It's impossible to get a realistic game speed at 12 minute quarters and end up with good stats unless you drop the shooting percentages farther down than they should be so as a result one has to drop the game speed. Everyone has their own preferences but I'd rather shave a few minutes off the clock and try to maintain normal game speed with realistic flow, even if it means shorter games.

(If I could get those damn offensive rebounds down and eliminate that reverse layup animation always going in I could probably create very realistic 12 minute settings with proper game speed, but what can you do?)

Realism isn't created by the game speed it's created by the overall slider settings. The key is to get everything as a whole to be as realistic as possible. Since the game has serious bugs some things have to be sacrificed. You've chosed to sacrifice game speed, I've chosen to shorten quarters. Be careful to assume one less realistic than the other without knowing the rest of the settings however.

I think the thing with your first thing is is, the closer you have the game speed to the default game speed (was it 50?) the animations will play out more realistically. The reason for this is, and correct me if I'm wrong but animations like Dunk animations, and outside scorer animations seem to be correlated to that game speed. So if you play a game at lets say 5, people will move in slow motion and they'd look like they'll explode to the basket when an animation gets triggers. Inversely someone who plays the game at a faster speed might see the animations for outside scorers almost feel like they are going in slow motion. The closer you are to the center (like 40) the more realistic the animations will play out. I'd really love to see animation speed correlate to the game speed, but it doesn't appear that that's the case.

As for the second thing, to each thier own. At 40 for my eyes the players appear to be moving way too slowly.

Personally I'd rather have the flow feel realistic with the exception of some slow motion animations than too slow flow with more consistent animation speed.

EXACTLY...40 gives the most realistic gamespeed....how do u play the game so fast on 80 speed?dats some crazy shit

haha. i expected those responses. but i bet almost all of you haven't tried playing for 80 gamespeed. once you tried it for 3 consecutive games, you'll get bored with slower speeds. so much for realism..

guess wat i used locked player mode and my garnet which is controlled by cpu had a game where most of his shots misses...
omg...garnet had really disappointed me =/

that's off topic but maximum.. garnett sucks because he doesn't have a decent powerhop like most centers. if there is a way to modify his powerhop, do so.

I go by the SpinMove...

40 looks right to me anything higher looks like a really fake spinmove.

If its at 80 the way I use to play then the spin move will be no help at all.

I thought it would be to slow but you just have to respect the game and respect real basket ball for being slower.

You can do alot better fancier drives if it is set to a lower speed. Its easier to setup for a charge also.

So 40 is my choice...

if you respect the game, then you should set your gamespeed to 50 because that's the default. having played nba shootout and nba live since 1995, i say the default speed is slow.

I started at 45 then went down to 40 and now I"m back up to DEFAULT 50. I think the players come off screens better at higher gamespeed. I agree with the original poster that you can use other sliders to control scores but you have to reduce the gameplay minutes.

Right now 50 gamespeed paired with 9 minute qtr's is pretty solid. I can't go back to lower a lower speed now because I hate how slow player's react on the court when moving to a spot.

what do you have cpu sim at?

i am using 17 speed with 12 min QTS for both. good numbers and minutes but it is slow.

I've bounced between 40 and 55, changing regularly as my opinion changed, and I find 50 to be my ideal speed (however I play 8 or 9 minute quarters). That speed, mixed with my custom sliders, produces a very real feel, and as realistic stats as I've been able to come up with through trying out others' sliders, modifying them, etc.

To me, 80 is simply no fun. The argument is made that the game moves that fast in real life, but if you watch a game, you'll see that it's simply an incorrect statement.
