I noticed something with the playbooks but it maybe only in my game. Since I installed the playbooks and the NLSC 1.0 roster update, I've gotten alot more blowouts then I used too. The first game I got my butt wipped. The next 4 games I've won by a margin of 15-50. Yes, I beat someone by 50(I really wooped there ass). I try to play teams close to my team rating (91). Is anybody else experiencing this? Maybe I'm just getting good at the game. I'm gonna play a game with default rosters to see if its the NLSC rosters or the new playbooks. I downloaded the playbook file that was posted and haven't made the adjustments that Playmaker made in the post above.

The plays in the offensive and defensive playbook can be called by double tapping the D-pad. How can I call the play that was assigned as the team strategy? Or can I call the play I assigned as team strategy?

yeah? that's my question too? i can call the different assigned plays through the d-pad but how do i use the offensive team strategy?

i'm thinking this is the play the team you're controlling will run if you don't call a any off plays. i'll check if this is true once i get back from work.

This is something I am struggling with in this Live. Unlike in previous years where different offensive strategy selections resulted in noticable differences in player positions and movement without requiring you to "call" a specific play, I do not notice much (if any?) difference in the player's starting position or subsequent movement in their base set. I really liked the fact that in previous versions I could set the offensive strategy to something like "Inside Triange" and the team would rotate through Inside Triangle "plays" 1-10. I got used to seeing the PF positioned at the free throw line, then rotate down in one "set" but start out low and rotate up high in another "set."

Now, don't get me wrong - I really like the improved play calling ability with 06, but I wish I could choose an offensive strategy where (for example) the PF was out on top more often, or the SF would cut to the hoop sometimes - or whatever. It seems like the base set is about the same regardless of the offinsive strategy selected.

The C and PC start out down low. the PG, SG, and SF are distributed areound the top. The most "movement" you seem to get are the quick cuts and push off of the defender with the player returning to their original position. Sometimes the SG or SF will drift down to the corners. Not much else.

If you pass the ball around and move a player into the paint you may get some off the ball movement which can result in some good shot opportunities, but I have not noticed much difference in the these player movements based on the Offisive Strategy selectd. Cavelier looks alot like Philly which looks alot like Ballanced. So what is the benefit of selecting the various Offensive Strategies.

Am I not looking at something - missing something basic when I am in this base set (not calling a specific play)? Are there differences I am just not seeing? Perhaps I am just not being patient enough in my ball movement to see the differences?

Ideas? What have you noticed?

I went and re-built every teams Playbook. A few post up you'll see all the teams listed. I tried to get them close as possible to actual play. Dallas has a 2nd playbook simply because Dirk Nowitzki is unlike most PF's he plays on the perimeter mostly and in order to make Dirk effective facing the basket in games you play vs Dallas you'll need to switch him to Sf in the starting lineup before you start a game.

I posted info of this in the Playbook thread to explain further. I tried to create more balance by mixing in mid range plays and low post plays. Hopefully this gets most PG's looking to dish first instead of drive. But for guy's like Iverson I wanted to keep them in an attack mode.

If a team has a top notch PF you will most likely see two plays assign to that player. They still won't take all the shots but it was setup that way in order for the teams like Minnesota, San Antonio or Indiana to run their offense through the low post first. Again though the PG's is key you most stop their initial penatration then they will run the assigned plays.

Keep in mind most NBA teams especially today are attacking the basket more than before.

Can you manually change these in-game, while not in the middle of a game, and save them as Settings??

flipz,

I have several (four actually  ) Quick Plays that I call throughout the game. My question is about the use of the Offensive Strategy selection, not the use of the Quick Plays. I agree that there are some great option with the various Quick Plays that you can use. I simply don't see much difference in the way the offense plays when you DON'T select a Quick Play and just rely on ball movement and the computer AI movement of your teammates. How do your teammates move differently in the base set when you have the Offensive Strategy set as Rip Iso vs. Cavalier for example? It is not the same as if you call the Rip Iso or Cavalier Quick Play. Does this make sense?

oh i get wut u mean now, without having to use the quick play, im the Nets and usually RJ and VC mostly are on the perimeter and Krstic mostly in the paint....i never really took notice of player movements without playcalling, ill try the "regular" plays today and ill keep u posted

Hey great job Playmakers on the new sets. Here's what I love so far after about 5 games. Teams actually have better balance on mid range shots, long range shots and drives to the basket. I played the Spurs and they would actually run their offense through Duncan alot more than they would through Ginoboli. I like how the playbooks actually effect bench players. I saw Ginoboli drive to the basket with your Spurs playbook but Michael Finley would settle for a jumpshot when he replaced Manu. I"m guessing the Rip Iso play is the one that made Finley shoot more mid range jumpers.

I also played the Bobcats and and sure enough once Omeka left the floor they still went down low for May vs me since he backed up Omeka at PF. Overall these are great updates so far because there is great mixture in balance. Houston was blast to play aswell because Yao actually touched the ball more often.

Hey Andrew,
Could we have this .DBF added to the download section as miscellaneos or somethig? Itis truly one of the best things for the game and everybody should know about it.

By the way eNgIeS, could you hit me with that latest file please. I hope that it works as well a the last one by Dre 13. This is the dimension that many of us are looking for in the game-- teams playing the way they actually play, at least runnng the sets that their real-life counter parts do.

Mysticsmoke@cox.net Thanks
