Conversion from Live to 2K series

Postby TyBoodro77 on Sun Nov 13, 2005 5:40 am

I'm here to tell everyone that it can not be done with happiness. I've stuck with EA for NBA Live 2004 and 2005. I liked them both. I thought I would try something new this year. But it didn't work out. You see after you've played Live for that long it just doesn't feel right playing anything else. I bought NBA 2K6 yesterday for my birthday because the people at EGM said it was better than Live this year. It doesnt even seem fun playing it. My advice to everyone is if you have been playing Live you will not be satisfied with anything else. Just thought I would share that with everyone. Please reply to this.

P.S. Some features on 2K6 are actually pretty cool. (besides not having an all-star weekend) But the gameplay to me is horrible.
Just tryin' to ball wit a good attitude...

Live kills 2K gameplay wise, animations, FSS is authentic as shit, real sim, altho current gen graphics for live were horrible as compared to 2K, i still stuck with live cuz of gameplay reasons...now that the 360 has upped their graphics, its all ggood (Y)

no offense man, i don't know why you don't enjoy the gameplay. maybe you don't play the real thing that's why you're not enjoying. i played all of the nba live series, from nba live '94 to the present which is nba live '06. for me every year there is an improvement.

I think he was referring to the gameplay of 2K6, not Live's gameplay. I've stuck with live since I started playing '96. They're all good and I wouldn't switch to another bball series.

On a side note.. I love the Philippines! :D

I'll admit, since I've played Live so long, its awkward trying to play 2k6. I will say that 2k6 is a very good game, but it has its negatives just like Live. And the crazy thing when discussing the two games is that no one can be neutral. I think the two games balance each other out. As a SIM fan, this is how I see the two games, even with my little Live bias:

2k6

1. Very good game. More realistic than Live, but still plays like a video game. People don't keep it in perspective. The sliding, unrealistic moments are some of the things that people complain about in Live, but is present in this game as well. It has its negatives, but I haven't played it long enough to give a detailed con list.

2. Plays better out the box. I shouldn't have to continuously tweak a game months after I purchase it and for that reason alone, 2k is appreciated.

3. Realism > Fun

Live 06

1. Very good game, but HORRIBLE out the box. You have to do too much work with sliders just to have a playable game. And let's not even start with the rebounding bug. Live needs to reevaluate and learn the definition of SIMULATION.

2. Superstar is a great feature, but I expect it to be toned down dramatically in the future, hopefully starting with the Live for 360. I want to have superstar moments, but I don't expect to see D Wade reverse dunking on three players three times a game. Since it is the first year of this mode, I can understand bugs. But I don't want enhancements features destroying the playability of the game.

3. I believe the dunk contest is hindering Live developers from delivering the ultimate basketball game year in/year out. It's frustrating because while they constantly make improvements, they seem to take a step back in other areas. I think it may be time to start from scratch and focus more on realism than the fun factor. We have NBA street for the circus stuff.

4. Fun > Realism

I've always felt that Live had an upper hand on reaching that ultimate bball game, but I also feel that Live developers are focused on the cake instead of the meat and potatoes. I'm VERY curious to see how Live for the 360 is going to be since they've basically stripped the game to "focus on gameplay."

It all boils down to preference. As long as there is a choice, everyone wins. I never understood the video game street teams on the net. It's corny.

I am going to buy 2k6, and try it out. Whichever one I am still playing in March will be declared the winner

u think 2K dont need slider adjustments?im sorry but wat 2k series have u been playing?just as live needed a lot of tweaking, 2K as well does, if u'll go 2K boards u'll know wut i mean.........now while live fans are all about the flash and style, Live's AI is amazing and to those who think this game is all about dunking, well its ur style, u play realistic to get realistic results....i seen ppl light up 2k for 170pts, dat FSS got me sold, adds a nice touch
