I've never really experienced such inconvenience with lagging in my game until now. I've been using customart and installing patches into my NBA live 2003 directory since about 4 months ago until now when I discovered that it was corruptive. So I tried another way to install the custom art without turning on the customart(csscripts) in hopes to stop the lagging. What I did was add the custom art by replacing .fsh files in .viv files, which worked successfully, however, the lagging was still there. So I did some experimenting and what I found out was that it was from the save files. Luckily, I had one that I had used before when I didn't download any patches yet. So I loaded that one and played the game. To my surprise, the lagging was gone. For some reason I guess, the save files that had been used during the time I was installing patches, somewhat corrupted the save game file in some way even if the customart is off. For anyone who has normally been installing patches and getting their game updated with the latest fashion and all of a sudden experienced lag more than the usual that they're getting, I suggest you turn off the customart and then reset your rosters. I assure you that the lagging will be gone or back to what it used to be before you had installed any patches. IF ANY EA PERSONNEL IS READING THIS RIGHT NOW, WE HOPE YOU MAKE A BUG FIX PATCH FOR THIS, PLEASE.
Anyways, if anyone has experienced this and has eliminated or restored the original quality and speed of their game without having to start a brand new rosters save file again, please tell me about it. I let you know I tried reinstalling the game, updating my video drivers and tweaking it to playing the game without the use of a cd, and none of them worked, because it was the game itself that was the problem.
