VERY POWERFUL MOVE: hook shot

Postby furbysaur on Sat Nov 05, 2005 5:32 pm

Good day everyone, I would just like to comment on this very powerful move which is the hook shot of inside scorers. You can do this using Tim Duncan, Rasheed Wallace, Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony etc. To do this move, just press the superstar trigger and hit the pass button. Your player will oftentimes move sideways and do a hookshot. (Do this in the paint or about 2 feet away from the paint)

So.. my point.. Is this move unstoppable? I'm using the San Antonio Spurs and can give Duncan 60+ points on a game with 6 minutes per quarter (and 50 fatigue). The computer (superstar AI) cannot (or doesn't) block it. I think the makers of NBA Live 2K6 didn't put to consideration the balance in this awesome move.. I'm telling this since my challengers get angry with me for I always use this move and there's nothing they can do about it.

Another glitch... I said earlier, Dirk Nowitzki can also do this hookshot since he's an inside scorer superstar. The problem.. HE CAN CONNECT FROM THE THREE POINT AREA!!! Man.. This is absurd. I cannot imagine anybody trying a hookshot in the three point line and sink it. I'm not saying this works 100% all the time for Dirk... Just about 80% but boy.. what an unfair move.

Point One: see Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Point Two: see Medowlark Lemmon

other than that there's always the ol' standby remark: lower the sliders for short range shooting.

Do I know you? I've been using the hookshot a lot on my friends hehehe....it's annoyed them a lot

The problem with this IMO is not only it's effectivity but also how easy it is to execute

Best advice I can give you is try to prevent that player from getting a good position down low

Null17, I don't think I know you. But I'm also a Filipino? ayos ba? hehehe. I'll try to speak in english so that everyone can understand. I've only played nba live 2k6 with 4 people. 3 from the office and 1 close friend. Maybe we can play. I thought I was the only one who took the advantage of using hook shots. hehe.. But try dirk nowitzki.. he can use those hook shots in beyond the three point arc.

yao ming does it best because of his height. seems to be more accurate.

the hook shot really is a good shot in game and in real life as it is such a hard shot to block and is very effective in and around the paint

so what to do in defense?

Postby furbysaur on Sun Nov 06, 2005 10:45 am

so you all mean that the only defense on it is to prevent those players from getting nearer than 10 ft from the basket? I think Yao and Nowitzki can drop hook shots accurately beyond the said distance.

btw oldfool, you said i can lower the sliders for short range shooting. can you suggest any numbers? and would that affect dirk nowitzki's 3 point hook shot?

guys, so few players have inside scoring ability (enabled). yes, and in real life hook shots are really hard to block and are very effective. but you can also do some hook shots using non inside scorer superstars when they are near the basket by pressing the shoot button (well sometimes they do a hook shot). but often times, these simple hook shots don't sink unlike the superstar trigger freestyle wachamaccallit hook shot.

well, if you dont believe me.. then use san antonio or houston. use duncan or yao ming and go about 10 ft from the basket and hold superstar trigger then pass.. There goes the fun since this shot connects 95% all the time. If I do what oldfool says which is to lower the sliders for short range shooting, then what about the other players without this ability. their short range shooting will be a lot worse than normal? Can the experts just develop a patch to lower the accuracy of the superstar hookshot?

very true on the inside scorer hook shot, its literally impossible to stop, i think this is the only superstar move that is basically impossible to block (not neccesarily will go in 100% of the time, but ive also had no luck attempting to block it). I think the only way to even defend against this is to attempt to outscore them and shut down everyone else. i know, not much help, but i cant think of a better strategy at the moment.

how come there are times when the hook shot doesn't immediately trigger? sometimes i press left trigger=pass around 3-4 times before the superstar executes.

also happens to me whenever im close to the basket and the defender is very close. you cant do the hookshot when you're struggling with possession of the ball (e.g. when you're double teamed)

Then you'd have to lower it so much that non superstar players can't even hit close shots anymore

2 point shots can be offset by a 3 point shot. You can do that if you have mastered the art of NBA live shooting... It's a testament from my opponents. I seldom use superstar shots. It just make us rely on them a lot. However if DIRK CAN SHOOT A 3 USING A DAMN HOOK, that's something to be thought every night!!!. Superstar moves should also have limitations... :|. Lowering the Sliders doesn't give the answer to this for it's not fair to other NBA players. If NBA Live is designed to be a "realistic game" then it should be. I hope EA can fix this one.

I agree. I play with the Clips and Elton Brand is an inside scorer. I don't abuse the hook shot, but its my first thought when I post him up - sweeping hook. I've hit 2 3point hooks with Elton, both were bank shots. I also missed a game winning sweeping hook, so I'm not too disapointed since I like to get Maggette, Brand, and Mobley in double figures I don't abuse it. I'm gonna try the double clutch (superstar+shoot) from 3 point land and see if it goes in. I might as well try all the superstar shots from beyond the arc. An idea just popped into my head - try using Inside Scorer shots from half/full court and see if they go in. :)

i used alexmary 'aiact.viv' (from Live 05 to 06 cam thread) which modified some of the superstar freestyle moves for each players and while checking it..the unstoppable hookshot was toned down a bit especially the range. so i'm thinking this is one cool update especially for those who want diffrent superstar moves between same type superstar players.

yes.. it's a powerful move indeed. The only thing u can do to stop it is try to denied him the ball using good defenders like bruce bowen... etc. Also, get him to the position where the opponent would shoot the hook shot behine the backboard.

from my experience.. duncan does it better than yao ming.

off topic: just discovered that the computer doesn't block superstar 3point shots. just wait for the computer to get close to your player (e.g. brent barry or peja) oftentimes, your defender will just stand in front of you and wont even attempt to block your superstar 3 point shot. but when the computer defender is just approaching and not close, he will try to block your shot. weird... but i've found a defense on this against a human player.. try to steal the ball. :)
