Xbox jersey textures different and better

Postby Admiral50 on Tue Oct 04, 2005 10:08 pm

PC textures are pretty low res and the mesh holes are bleh...
Xbox in game looks crisper and the creases and folds are much better, plus the mesh looks different (I'm running in progressive) but even extracting the textures (with the 2005 xsh tool) they look different.

For example, the jersey itself is plain in colour with no mesh, texture or creases/folds in it. So the rest must be done with bump mapping and lighting. But it's a pity because the 2005 xsh tool can't view the bump textures, it's all pink and scrambled.

Hopefully a new 2006 xsh tool comes out because it's worth having a look at the bump texture they use. Or then again maybe it's just a different, better lighting technique used on Xbox, because as the players move and the lighting changes on their jersey it almost makes the creases look like they are changing.

Nice find (y)
If you'd like you can send me the 'xsh' file and I'll try it out with a bunch of tools. Not that I think it would work, but I suppose it's worth a try. My email is dahl@nba-live.com if you want to send it...

Nope. I tried it with basically every Live tool I had and none worked. I even checked them out with a hexeditor, and the only thing similar with their coding was a few of the first 7 lines... Seems like we'd need a new tool for it.

Actually they are almost identical to PC. Except they are flat coloured with no creases or mesh holes. So I am thinking the bump map bitmap together with much better lighting on the Xbox makes it look better.

Damn thing? Take a deep breath...

Anyway, the 2005 Xbox tool works with the jersey itself but cannot display or extract the bump map texture.

It probably doesn't matter because I have a feeling it's the same thing as on PC, just looking that much better because of better lighting/mapping in game.

Can't really understand you but if you are trying to say take the xbox graphics and throw them in the pc version, it doesn't work.

And like I said, looking at the actual files for xbox there is little difference. So the better shine and creases/folds must come from the lighting. Something we can't do anything about for the PC version.

Still don't know what you mean. Are you saying you found this file inside Live 06 for PC?
In which .VIV file?

No...i found in Uniforms folder...of Live 06 for PC!!

Hey...you have the Xbox Live 06 DVD???? Or not?

If yes, try extract only textures of the uniforms folder of Xbox DVD using the XSH Edit or other...

I need just the textures from Xbox DVD in .bmp or .jpg

Ok? :D

Ok but .VIV file do you find them in???

And yes I do have Live DVD on Xbox, I can ftp to my Xbox and rip the files from the DVD but you aren't listening to me either... the XSH editor can NOT view the creases/folds texture from Xbox. It only shows blank jerseys.

Ok got ya, but thought you were trying to say you found 'different/unused' textures in the PC folder, because that knicks jersey looks different than EA's default.

Your English writing skills are ok, but you cannot read and understand very well. Sorry. I will try again for you. :)

So I'll explain with words AND pictures...
I CAN extract Xbox jerseys. But the bump map (small greyscale texture) cannot be viewed with the Xsh tool.
Unless the bump map is very different (it may well be exactly the same as PC), then the Xbox creases must be done through lighting and mapping with the Xbox hardware.
