i also think that's a good addition (potential rating). in their nhl game the potential rating can be seen. but i wonder why in nba live the ratings after the first year of the franchise the following year would have small difference like 81 1st yr, 82 2nd yr.
It does seem like that's what always happens, but some players will increase more significantly. I'd like to see player development be less random before players go up too much. Even though that would be fairly realistic - some players do break out in their second year, or show improvement from college during their rookie year - if it were too random, then it wouldn't be realistic (eg. a player with great potential that sat on the bench most of his rookie season, who goes from 78 to 90).
i think it would be beter if rating were to change during the season, depends on how the player feels, if he just came form injury....
Apparently NBA2K3 has this feature, with a player's ratings increasing and decreasing as they slump or go on a hot streak. The problem with that would be trading. Live calculates the fairness of the trades by the overall rating, so it would probably make a lot of trades impossible. In a way that's realistic, since a slumping player isn't an attractive trade commodity, but it might also mean a good bench player who isn't getting enough minutes on your team would decline, even though he'd be thriving elsewhere.
So I suggest if this feature makes its way into NBA Live 2004, that it either be perfected to accomodate transactions, or be an option that can be toggled in case it doesn't work out for everyone.
