has anybody here able to block a dunk or layup?

i just noticed that it's very difficult or impossible to block a player who'se dunking and going for a layup...i've tried playing around 5 games already and i just got 1 luck on blocking a dunk shot and it's on the 1 on 1. i used KG and i was able to block Jermaine O'neal's dunk from behind i think...but with layups, no luck yet...i noticed that when a player goes for a dunk or layup, it's almost automatic basket for them...i real life, not all dunks and layups are successful...i've seen unsuccessful dunks and layups but i think it's better if you can also block them rarely like in live 2001...

funny you mention this, when I block a player going for a dunk or a lay up--it's when they are on there way up--it's hard but it's also timing.--the funny thing is , I was playing yesterday Hawks vs Nets and with 15 seconds left Kidd stole the ball and was going up for a layup(keep in mind, I had a 1 pt lead) and Robinson blocks his layup and I win.

But anyways, it's timing--but your better off going for a charge.

i don't know about u guys, but everytime my opponent goes for the hoop, i was accustomed on tapping the rebound/shoot button to get the block/rebound. in live '03, it's the take charge button. just press it for a while when your opponent take to the hoop and your guy gets to take the charge or block the shot. tested and proven...

try nyo lang... :wink:

I've been able to strip people going in for layups. It's one of the new features that sets this game apart from other genres.

I've managed to block a layup once with Rasheed Wallace (it was an reverse and I came over with the weak-side help and blocked it... managed to keep it in bounds too, which is unusual in this game).

And Dale Davis blocked a dunk in my third game or so, but I can't take credit for it, the computer took control of him.

ohhhhh man I blocked lay ups so much times... just a matter of a good position and timing... if u have nba street you know

I was even able to block layups and keep the ball in my hand after the block more then once...
too bad those asses didn't put the recording a movie function in this one

what was a great timing then? during a fastbreak of the cpu, i tried following them and beat them under the basket but when they go for a dunk and layup, my players always got dunked over by the CPU...even when i jump to block them, i don't know how you call it but my player is changing his body language when the CPU crashes over him resulting my player not to block the shot and won't able to go for the block...

I blocked a lay-up or a dunk once or twice out of luck. Since blocking wouldnt work, i tried taking the charge then, been successful a couple of times per game.

Its almost impossible to block when the oppenent is on a fast break, all i can do is foul them.

See, this is what makes this game so great! You can't work it all out the first week you play it. This is a good thing, make no mistake. With previous NBA lives i have struggled for the first 2 weeks of the season and then won nearly every game after that to finish with a boring championship (on superstar level). This game however, is harder. You may not work everything out for a month or two and find yourself with a very very poor record. Then you work it out and go from 5-21 to 50-32 or something. So it will even itself out, just wait. It's better than starting 13-13 and then going to 69-13. Much more enjoyable season with early struggles. This is an outstanding game in my opinion. And as for the gripes regarding high scoring, just slow it down and use up your shot-clock.

i've made some blocks a couple of times, all of it from double teams using shaq as the blocker. better go for the steal when the computer attempts a dunk, its easier than trying to block a dunk or layup.

for real, its true, you cant block everything but man, it gets the team going when a shot is rejected out to the stands

can be embarrassing coz, it might make a rookie look like hes come to the block party
