jxuusa, have no idea where it is either. but that's the information he gave me. I thought you were going this one 'cause you were leading for most of the game. the baby hook on your last possession kinda blew your chances
killer_crossover, thanks for the comments, good luck to both you and Jugs. It's going to be a battle of the big hairdos
Pedrajas advances to the quarterfinals after trampling Skrnjug by Sam Rubenstein
Sam Rubenstein here! Once again, I'm back to bring you coverage on the MF1on1C (Michael Finley 1on1 Challenge for those who haven't caught on yet), the 1on1 tournament that Michael Finley organized to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Anyway, the format of the article will be the same as last time with the short intro and my game notes right after.
This time take a look at the second game of the quarterfinals - the "Battle of the Big hairdos" as I like to call it. The game was between big-haired Aussie #69, Robert Skrnjug and similarly big-haired Filipino #4, Joseph Pedrajas.
It was quite a painful game to watch as the man also known as "Jugs" and the man also known as "Killer Crossover" were missing layups left and right. Unfortunately for Jugs, Pedrajas was able to get his groove on and started scoring while he was still stuck with his slump. Needless to say, Pedrajas won big. Here are my notes from the game.
- Pedrajas sinks a three to gain possession.
- Pedrajas drives and misses but gets the rebound and follows it up with another layup and gets it the second time around. 0-1
- Skrnjug fakes out Pedrajas after the check and goes for a nice open finger roll. 1-1
- Pedrajas tries a variety of moves to try and lose Skrnjug. After a few crosses and a couple of post moves, he was able to break free and go for a layup but again he misses. Fortunately, he was also able to get his own rebound and follow it up. 1-2
- Skrnjug has a hard time getting an opening but was able to do so after he crosses Pedrajas in the corner but he misses a layup after the drive. Pedrajas rebounds.
- Pedrajas was able to lose Skrnjug on his first step but again misses another layup only to get the ball back and score. 1-3
- Skrnjug attempts a short baseline jumper misses, rebounds and lays it in. There seems to be a pattern in this game 2-3
- Pedrajas attempts his own midrange jumper and misses as well. Skrnjug gets the board
- Skrnjug posts Pedrajas up a couple off times and uses up most of the clock. Desperate, he tries a long hook and hits the top of the backboard with the ball.
- Pedrajas loses Skrnjug on the dribble for a quick score 2-4
- Skrnjug also gets a quick layup on Pedrajas 3-4
- Some tight D by Skrnjug. But with a few seconds on the clock left. Pedrajas manages to get an opening but somehow misses the layup again. And again, he manages to get the rebound and scores 3-5
- Nice cross by Skrnjug but he gets fouled hard on the way to the rim.
- Skrnjug attempts another drive and end it with a nice floater near the rim. 4-5
- Not wasting anytime, Pedrajas takes the ball to the rim fast. 4-6
- Skrnjug misses a layup. Pedrajas rebounds
- Pedrajas posts Skrnjug up, goes for a nice imitation of the Dream Shake and end with a hook. Now if only he was seven feet tall. 4-7
- Skrnjug misses another layup and gives up the rebound to Pedrajas. Deja vu?
- Pedrajas goes for a nice jumpshot near the key but he misses. Skrnjug boxes him out for a rebound.
- Skrnjug wastes no time and goes for a layup and ends with his third consecutive miss. Pedrajas rebounds
- Skrnjug gives Pedrajas a hard time with his scrappy D making him miss his own lay in.
- Irritated, Skrnjug goes for a nice drive, a short jump stop and a nice hook breaking the curse. 5-7
- Pedrajas breaks Skrnjug's ankles and goes for a nice open layin. 5-8
- Skrnjug, with time running out, goes for a quick jumper on the key and misses. Pedrajas rebounds.
- Pedrajas gets another quick score from a layup. 5-9
- Skrnjug misses another layup. He better clean up his act soon. Pedrajas rebounds.
- Skrnjug locks on Pedrajas on D out of desperation and succeeds. Pedrajas was forced to take a jumpshot with a few seconds left on the shotclock and misses. Skrnjug gets the board.
- Pedrajas corners Skrnjug with his D and forces him to take a step out of bounds
- Back to being lazy on D, Skrnjug leaves Pedrajas wide open for the drive once again. 5-10
- Skrnjug misses another layup. That might be it for him. Pedrajas rebounds.
- Pedrajas gets fouled while going for a short jumper.
- Pedrajas gets a quick cross on Skrnjug and wins the game. 5-11
- Pedrajas is off to meet Callahan in the semifinals.
killer, unfortunately the game crashed right after you took the final shot so no stats. I don't really plan to post the stats of the tournament to give it that streetball feel and yes it was a pretty long game
Kobe101, thanks for stopping by, haven't seen you around lately
Oh damn, i hate missing my lay-ups. Nice recap nonetheless, but i lost, i need to work on my D and lay-ups.. maybe because of the pressure i lost, and in the qualifying games there wasnt as much pressure, oh well. Good Luck Killer crossover in your next game.
Nice recap once again Null, i cant wait until the regular season
