Body development over the years

Postby Raptorel on Thu Jul 14, 2005 11:00 pm

It would be very nice to add a player body development during the years.

That means that for example a player drafted at 19 years old for example at 6'8 and weighing 210 lbs playing SF to possibly become a 6'10-235 lbs PF in 2-3 years... when he grows and due to weight room activity.

Also during these (the) years, his appereance could modify, like having different haircuts, when he injures a leg or arm to see a strap on that joint, a sleeve or something, to see him having a bigger body (when he gets from 210 lbs to 235) and his strength to increase automatically just by weight training and weight gaining in itself. You know, like in the real world.

The same about jumping, like for example to send players to the weight room assigning upper body training (for added inside strength, better space for rebounding etc) and lower body training (for better speed (floor quickness) and jumping, and thus increasing the dunk rating at the same time (so a player that you had if he had a 0 dunk rating that rating could increase in a real-time season)).

I have many ideeas like these, you just have to look at real-world situations, and I don't think they are that hard to implement in computer coding...

That would be a pretty cool idea... there's actually something a little bit similar in the game as it is. I've noticed a couple of times where I've drafted an 18 year old who's like 7'1, and he'll be 7'3 by the end of his career.

Pretty cool (Y)

I wish theyd allow you to choose to make a guy weight train or lose weight, etc. Then his body can change based on how much you do.

It'd be kinda cool if you could get a rating for growth potential... i.e how much taller they might get, how easy they'd put muscle on their frame or gain weight.

Or even some sort of scouting thing "Player could possibly grow 1-2 inches over the next few years". Hmm, awell.

Yeah that's right. It could be quite important as you can draft a valuable SF and gamble on waiting 1 or 2 years to move him at PF, for example, instead of not drafting him because you need a PF.

Agreed. The potential of young players to grow a couple of inches is cool, but the ability to get your players to bulk up and add some more muscle is the next step. Whether or not you would get the desired results would depend on the player's development potential (and/or dedication rating, should one be added).

I don't know but are there players who grow after the age of 18?

I'm 6' 2''...and I'm 25 years old. But I stopped growing at the age of 17. The players who are 7' 0'' are already tall when they are young. I can't imagine people that grow and grow although puberty ends at 17 or 18.

Actually alot of guys don't stop growing until they're like 20 or so. Andrew Bynum for instance is 17 but apparentely could grow another 2 inches. Didn't Yao also grow an inch, and he's in his 20's.

It just depends on your genes, my moms side of the family grows full height at 16. My dads side keeps growing til 18. Both sides end up at around the same height, just different for each person.

Andris Biedrins is 19 and is said to still be growing.

The weight room, lose weight idea sounds good, and there should also be a trade-off, where, if the player loses weight, you run the risk of him losing strength, but gaining speed and quickness or vice versa. So then, if you want the player to get bigger, say a SF and you want him to play PF, he'll become slower but he'll be stronger to play the PF spot.

Exactly what I meant, I think that would add alot to the game, since that happens in real NBA. They draft this young skinny kid and bulk them up in the weight room.

Actually I just saw the interview with the Live 06 developer and he mentioned assigning a big man coach to work with your big men in dynasty mode all year. While he didnt mention getting bigger or bulkier, he did mention that their ratings would improve so they could get superstar moves. Hopefully they will incorporate bulk & strength.

well players really do grow..even in nba live 2005...my guy was 6'7" when i created the player..he ended 6'9" when i finished....they do grow. and yes i really do like that bulk up idea (Y) ohh and i heard some people do grow in their 20's except the increase of height won't be as noticeable when you're 14 like me:D. ohh btw did you nkow that you're taller in the morning than in the night:P read it on msn.heheheh OHH PLUS LIKE A NOTIFICATION THAT YOUR PLAYER GREW!!! that would make the PDA MUCHHHH more useful. unlike last year...sigh*

Why revive an old thread?

That's because during the day, when you're awake, the bones in your spinal column become compressed. When you sleep the bones become decompressed thus giving you that very little change in height.

Reading the interview with the 06 developer he mentioned what we were talking about. Said theres even an area to see the changes that player made, hopefully it similar to what we were saying.
