2004 was the bset for me, 2005 was just a mess...too many problems...the only reasons why I bought it was for Dynasty and All Star

Live 2005 would be my pick... The poll has already closed though...

I'm along with Andrew on this one... Live 2000 was the best before 2004 and 2005... Live 2000 really didn't have any too annoying problems, and that's what makes it so great.

Live 2001 had a horrible simulation bug in the franchise mode and don't get me started with NBA Live 2003... It was just threes and breaks, there was nothing more and nothing less. And was it 2003 where all the shots were swatted out of the arena or was it in 2004? I just can't remember... That was probably the worst thing ever. Also in 2004, you really couldn't dunk on anyone... Like Shaq couldn't dunk on Charlie Ward, but would throw up an awkward looking shot that never went in.

I've found one thing kind of annoying in the games... 2004 and 2005... Using the dunk button and the guy goes for a layup from miles away from the basket is just horrible. Some guys actually can make these shots... Even I can make these shots and they aren't that hard. You can count your blessings when ever you make one in the game... Parker does the teardrop shot on regularity and scores with it too. I know the centers might have some trouble shaking the ball out of their hands, but I think most guards would get them to fall in real life. It's not that hard especially if you knowingly go for it.

I would agree with 2005 being the best, despite the multitude of problems.
One thing I hate about 2004 and 2005 though are the amount of dunks in a game. In 2005, there were games when I scored only using dunks. It's way too unrealistic. Yes it depends on your playing style, but still I usually play vs humans and I want to win! I'm not going to change my playing style while my opponent suddenly dunks like hell.

a lot of youngins including 2 of my brothers like 2003...but for the much older guys out there we dig 2000.....basically my fav lives started from the retro 95-99 and 2000...and the dynasty of 2004 and 2005 were the best so far in the series (Y)

It is easier to dunk on a human opponent... He will probably not stick to you like glue like the AI sometimes does and you have to fake him to get your player to move anywhere.

And to change all this... Put the dunk slider to 10 and suddenly you guys have a whole new ball game on your hands...

I see, I shall do that next time.
I do play with the NLSC sliders though but I can still dunk like hell. (Compared to a real game anyhow)

i definitly agree. smaller gaurds sometimes mostly rely on that shot to get it over a taller defender. it was good to see the shot being made in the 2006 videos. also that shot is actually much easier for certain people then a regular jumpshot simply because on a runner u are using one hand and maintaining your direction as well as adding enough rotation. people who dont know how to shoot a jumpshot properly sometimes use both hands to push the ball instead of using one hand for direction which results in alot of misses. of course an NBA player HAS to at least know the mechanics of a jumpshot so many dont have to use the runner but that doesnt mean its not an extremely easy and effective shot.

i didnt think the dunking in 2005 was a problem. that must be the defense ur playing against. i play on the ps2 so i dont know if its any diffrent as far as gameplay but on the Ps2 the blocking inside is very excessive and its hard to get a dunk even with a wide open lane. i usually have to try and go inside to get the big men of the other team in foul trouble before i try penetrating with my gaurds. also are u playing on the highest difficulty level? cuz if you are then that might be the problem. when in the highest difficulty level the CPU gives no help to the user controlled team. you have to contest every shot and go after every loose ball manually. so if you are playing on ball defense and ur man gets by you, u have to switch to ur center .you cant rely on the CPU for anything they will get dunked on all day. thats how it is in the ps2 i dont know about PC. on PS@ anything u bring inside against someone who can block is a gauranteed swat

Well it's relative to a real game of basketball basically.
In a real game of basketball, Shaq and Amare averages around 3 dunks per game (Shaq averaged around 200 dunks each season, Amare made even more this season), athletic guards around 2 and 1 for almost every other player.

See I play against humans mostly and they don't play defense as well. I usually play in the second highest difficulty level. Plus the power dribble is too strong for the Centers or Forwards. Using the power step, the dunk frequency increases immensely. We decided maybe we should ban this, but then everyone of course breaks the rule once in a while in order to win, so it doesn't work.

well if u up it to the highest difficulty level then the only one that should be able to get away with that power dribble most of the time is shaq. and theres even ways to stop him. double teaming him and swiping the ball with a gaurd will make him either kick out or get it stolen or sometimes hell just power through everyone and get a score, much like real life but thats just how shaq is.
if ur playing defense right u should be able to stop anyone even if they use the power dribble. u have to remember that if they get too deep in the post u have to bring help or they will get the foul call maybe even the and1. also if you bring help it would almost surely be a block or heavily contested shot.
just try upping the difficulty and play against a player like amare. the dunks shouldnt be that frequent if the defense is right

Well if you up it to the highest level, isn't there way too many blocks? (even if you decrease it to 0)

ehh technically there is... but that just depends on ur shot selection. if u take smart shots and use ur mid range game it shouldnt be that much of a problem. it is excessive though if u dont be careful

I've only played NBA Live 2001, 2004 and 2005. I was disappointed at my computer cos it couldn't make 2005 good (something like that). I liked 2001 cos they atleast did SOMETHING when you won the nba championship (CHEST BUMPS WOOOOO!!!)

But my favourite would be NBA Live 2004, i love just pulling out the gamecube and start ripping it or somefin

it's a toss up between 98 and 2000... 98 was pretty sick in its day... 1st live with cyberfaces, GM mode, 3pt shootout, custom teams, TNT/TBS broadcast (with logos and everything), and I would say it's the first Live for graphics patching

99 definitely the worst (N)
fucking lockout...

The difference in playing between all-star and superstar, atleast when playing against the AI is that the AI does not help you on defense on superstar at all... So if that were to translate into multiplayer, that would mean the only guy doing any defense was basically the guy your opponent is controlling.

Setting the dunk slider to 10 would result in a lot of missed dunks... It effects how well the dunks succeed or don't... So if you and your friends played with the dunk slider set as low as 10, it would mean that the other options, other than dunking would become a more viable scoring option and thus there would be less dunks atleast after a while with all the missed attempts.

In single player the AI offers much more resistance on the super-star level than on the all-star level.

98- i had most fun with this one. Although not a Simulation it kicked ass as an arcade game.

99- this is where the graphics started out. Also here you could continue one season after another for 10 seasons. Although the problem was that players would drop 70 points on you.

00- Franchise, 1-on-1 and some great gameplay. Revolutionised the whole series.

01 (PS)- best gameplay of all

02- piece of shit

03- piece of shit, too many dunks and too many isolation plays for Ryan Bowen

04- pretty good game but too many blocks

05- havent played

06- better kick ass or i'll never buy from EA again.

I'd agree in that respect but disagree in terms of gameplay and the multi-season mode. In that respect it's pretty much just a step behind NBA Live 2000 in my opinion, which would make sense given that it's the last version before 2000. ;)

I think its evident that live keeps improving every year now....so looking at it rationally...the best so far is live 2005. However, my favourite lives are live 96 ..live 99... and live 2005.
