Error Starting Live 2003...

i got the game and was able to install it but when i try to play the game (doble-clicking on it on the desktop ot clicking play on the autorun) the game won't start and there's an error saying "nba2003 has caused an error on nba2003.exe"! what seems to be the problem? does anybody experiencing the same error with the game?

i tried installing the game on my dad's pc and it worked there but i can't seem to figure out why the game is not working on my pc. i was able to run live 2001 on my pc and my dad's pc and mine is most like the same in processor but mine was better on video card and yet i can't run the game in my pc...can anybody help me pls? tnx!

I had the same problem. I contacted EA tech support via e-mail and they were very helpful in helping to diagnose the potential problems.

FIRST I would recommend that you download the newest audio and video drivers from your hardware manufacturers. If this doesn't help then contact EA.

Hey guys,

i had the same problem.
Autostart.exe and setup.exe didnt start and the CPU Uasge runs instandly on 100%.

But then i had a look in the readme.txt from ea. And there you are, they tell you to disable your Antivirus-software. I did it. Nuttin' happens. Then i disabled my firewall and there you go...

The setup routine with Jason Kidd starts...

Maybe this coul be one solution for you.

I have the exact same problem as jay-em has listed...i was gonna start a thread for help but it seems we're already there...
It's been wokring for me fine the first two days i own the game...then i played it last night and it froze...i restarted the computer...tried to open the game again and BOOM!...i get that damn error...
I re-installed the game and then it worked...YAY! but then it froze again and i restart and the error came up again so i re-istalled... (keeping in mind that the installation take friggin month!) this cycle went through one more time...
I don't know what the problem is...it might of been the fact that my computer was on for ages? doubtful
i don't use a firewall,
My graphics card is supported,
I have norton but i don't have anything running...i don't think...

My two cents:

If the game won't start (ie nothing seems to happen, or you get a brief black screen but immediately get dumped back to your desktop) the most likely culprit is your PC's video card situation.

Make sure your video card is supported by NBA Live 2003
Make sure you have drivers which fully/properly support Direct3D
Last but not least, make sure you have MS DirectX 8.1 installed

How can you find out if your drivers support Direct3D?
As long as you have MS DirectX 8.1 installed, you have the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" at your disposal. Launch the diagnostic tool by: [Start] - Run - Type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and click [OK]. On the "Display" page, you'll see the "DirectX Features" box - make sure that "Direct3D Acceleration" shows as "Enabled". If it doesn't, you either have a video card that isn't supported by NBA Live 2003, or you have a valid card which happens to be using old/crappy drivers. Update your video card drivers, re-install MS DirectX 8.1 and you should be all set.

If you can't even install the game (auturun.exe/setup.exe won't run) then you most likely have issues beyond just the scope of "installing NBA Live 2003"... Windows ME perhaps?

I have read all of the posts in NLSC about troubleshooting Live 2003, I've tried EVERYTHING that they have said but Live still won't work properly! I really wanted to play this version coz I'm running Win 2000 and Live 2001 didn't work on it!

I have a 1.3GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD, 32MB GeForce MX 200 ... I'm thinking it might be the sound card now, after installing all the updates I can (even my sound card), I have gone from the game crashing immediately to being able to see all of the team icons at the beginning of the game, only to be taken straight back to my desktop!!

I just don't get it, I can run UT2003, Mafia and No One Lives Forever 2 and they all work fine - just install the game and it goes! WTF is up with EA? Why does it gotta be so damn hard to install a game???

NBA Live 2003 crashed from the settings menu, until I changed the video driver.
My previous driver was Direct X 8.1 compatible and worked with other 8.1 games. My card is a Leadtek Geforce 2 Ultra.

Unfortunately, Creative Labs seems to only update drivers for their latest card and not for the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 +MP3.

Even if your video card is Direct X Compatible, try changing the driver anyway it worked for me. I am using the NVidia 30.82 driver.
There seem to be problems with the latest NVidia 40.X.

I upgraded from the NVidia 30.82 driver to the latest NVidia 40.X driver and I think that was what made the game actually load up to the NBA Live 2003 logo rather than just crash my whole system and restart my computer!

I have since contacted EA Sports Tech Support who replied very quickly, they told me to save all of the info from DXDiag so they can assess what may be the problem. I found that I needed to upgrade my chipset driver, but when I tried I only got to the same point trying the load the game as I have previously ... I suppose I will have to wait for EA to see if they can enlighten my situation any further ...

i open the game, everything goes right, then i play a game in franchise, 1-on-1, practrise ect, the game load and then it crashed...can someone help me please!

I have since re-installed Live 2003 and I seem to be having the same problem as vinsanity now - I can run the game and select 1-on-1, Play now, Practise etc ... but when it is time for the computer to load the court/graphics/sounds etc, the game crashes and gives me an error! I also can't hear the music when in the Live menus ... can anyone help??
