You make some nice suggestions that would add to the polish of the game, but personally I would rather EA focus on gameplay.
I agree somewhat, I think the gameplay needs some work but NOT a ton to improve it. It sounds like they've made nice strides to fix some of the problems from last year.
I think the game needs more polish then the gameplay needs work.
For example, I think the player celebrations add so much to the game, and it's just missing from Live 2005 - in fact the only time the players show any emotion is after a foul. I know NBA Live 2003 gets a lot of flack for it's "Circa 2002 Dallas Mavericks on Speed" playing style, but the subtle style touches are excellent in that game, and have been completely missing since 2004. A lot of people didn't like the constant celebrating in Live 2003 (and sometimes it does get annoying) but a happy medium would be nice, perhaps with a slider that lets adjust the celebrating down (or off). Another annoying this is when you hit a game-winner - the whole cutscene with the ref is pointless at creating any level of suspense, because if you've won the game, the score overlay will reflect it before the ref ever waives the shot off or says it's good. The ability to view the instant replay feature at any time was nice too, Live 2005 seemingly cuts you off from viewing it at important times, which hurts the usage of that feature as well. It'd also be nice to have useable Team Stats (who cares about each teams totals, how about the teams average, so you can compare among teams in your dynasty, to see if you need to beef up your blocks or steals to compete with the top teams in your dynasty?)
Stuff like that really bothers me haha. I'd rather have that, then some slam-dunk contest.
