This game (NBA2003) is a JOKE!

Postby thefunnyone on Mon Nov 18, 2002 7:20 am

This game is a f***ing joke. Without the CPU assistance you can beat the CPU by 40 games, even on Superstar difficulty. I tried the so called tweaked rosters, they are pretty good, but except the fact that the players were doing the dribble in slow-mo I didn't notice any difference in the scoring.
And if you turn on CPU assistance, then you get a bullsh*t game I just played. Against Minnesota (I'm with Sacramento) I was leading by 20 points 3 minutes before the final whistle. Then of course they started scoring three pointers. It doesn't matter that I blocked 5 shots straight, they'd score on the 6th. Then I miss a dunk. Then they score a 3 pointer again. Then I miss a layup. Then a 3 pointer again. Then I miss a dunk. I get the rebound, I miss the layup. Again, they get the three. I try to kill some time, they steal the ball, again, a three (they actually turn back from the fastbreak). I miss a dunk again, get the rebound, miss a dunk, get the rebound they steal the ball. Another three. I kill the rest of the time, except with 2 seconds left they steal the ball and score from half-court. And they win.
I'm not even going to start bitching about the sh*tty AI, EA hasn't changed ANYTHING about the AI's defense or offense since 95. Great graphics, sometimes really good gameplay, but come ooooon!!! You can try playing good and realistic basketball against the CPU, but they just cheat waaay too much. And if they don't cheat then they just plain suck. I think the CPU assistance could be fixed with a patch. Basketball isn't just about 6 point or 8 point or 20 point runs! Keep the ballance, if I score, then let the cpu score too, but if I dominate the game, let me win for god's sake, not with 30 points, but with 10 or 6 points.

Why you always wanted to dunk or layup, shoot the three, man.

For all those people who win by 30 points and then complain why they didn't just win by 6 points, you should make a patch that will allow you to input how many points you want to win or lose by. That way, the game will know exactly what you want so it won't be able to piss you off!

Sheesh!

Big deal you lost it's just a game, I'm personally 4-0 on my all star level season with the tweaked rosters and i've beaten everyone by 10 or more. I've only played Cleveland, Portland, Memphis, and Miami but still I think this game is just fine.

You know sometimes I just don't get you NBA Live basketball gamers?

Before you all use to complain saying:

1.) "The game is too slow and there are no fast breaks."

2.) "There are too many offensive rebounds and you feel as you were getting cheated by A.I."

3.) "The game was way too easy, even on superstar and that it's not worth playing because there is no competetion."

Stop complaining! NBA live 2003 is a great game, it's not the best game ever; but it's great. Yes, there are problems. But you can fix them by either editing players and mastering the game. I for one am glad that I get beaten by 15 or 20 points once in a while, or computer coming back from 10 or 15 points with a few minutes left & you have fight to win. It makes the game more worthwhile playing because you have competetition. So stop complaining and try mastering the game, okay.

For anyone who reads this, check out in the franshise section: "TRY TOPING MY FRANCHISE."

Peace,

I really don't mind losing if I lose against the computer that's playing good basketball. That sets up great plays, nice screens, pick and rolls and everything else. I do mind losing against a computer that cheats and does only one-on-one plays and tries shooting threes all the time. I mean once I blocked a guy trying to shoot a 3 pointer 10 times STRAIGHT, and yet he didn't try to pass it to someone, they didn't try to set up a screen, he just tried and tried and tried. And you're saying the CPU's AI is great. I never complained about the fastbreaks, I actually enjoyed that the CPU scores on fastbreaks, because that means I suck at running back after I lose the ball. It's NOT what I complain about, it's the unrealistic moves, and the stupid AI. Especially the stupid offensive AI. But anyway, if you like the game, fine, have fun training your reflexes. :D

In each game the NBA teams do not set up plays run picks and get the best shot, MAN... do you not even pay attention to the game... Look at last night's game between the Sixers and Memphis...

I agree. The real NBA players don't play in teams which entails pick and rolls and the like. In some situations, they do but not too often. In professional leagues especially the NBA, we could more often find players doing mostly pure isolations.

Well in my oppinnion personally "thefunnyone" said it 100% true about the game. In live series and unfortunately in 2003 year edition the AI is so damn stupid and playes unreal basketbal. They don't use open men to take the shot at all. Yes in NBA games there are guys whos job is to score and others whos job is the dirty work ... but come on .. not like this. And the unrealistyc shooting% .. like it doesent matter if u play good defence or not. Defence is not about steals and blocks ... but rather a way to make a oponent to miss ... but i dont find it in that game. Well now u say .. there is no perfect bb game .. but the closest to that is still NBA Insidedrive 2000 (pc) ... about the gameplay. But well ... i still like to play live more than id2000 ... its prettyer and ive played id2000 too much ... only hope that live 2004 will make AI more better ...

you can make the CPU miss without doing blocks and steals... you can put your arms up hilariously and it will make them miss here and there. i did this yesterday on the PS2 while i was going Wilkins vs. Bird one on one.

id say yes, there are way too many fastbreaks and they have emphasized WAY too much on the stupid AND1 streetball "crazy handles" junk in the game (freestyle.) but what do you expect? thats whats selling right now - not fundamental basketball. i think 2001 is a lot more "Real" then this one. at least you can find open men and the passes are 24,000 miles per hour.

im thinking about getting the PC version now. 29$ on amazon. i came here to see what everyones posts would sway me towards. haha
has anyone played NBA 2k3?

You are ABOLUTELY right

Pissed me off sooooo much. I was Portland, and I was playing Memphis in season. Leading by like 18 points. Then, what happens?

Like 8 fast breaks. All resulting in missed open dunks. I missed dunks with Sheed, Bonzi, Derek Anderson, and my created player (who has 91 in dunking BTW). All resulting in defensive rebounds for them. What happens on the other side of the floor? My teammates stopped trying to block. They get crossed easily. Memphis gets like 6 outta 7 3 pointers in, including Jason Willians's bullshit clutch shot from half court (while double teamed!!)

What was EA Sports thinking? They're thinking of a cheap way to make the game hard. That's like action game developers making it so the opponents can shoot through walls, never EVER miss, and run twice as fast. (oh yeah, in fast breaks, if I'm playing Iverson, I can get outrun by by Garnett! WTF). The computer cheats, plain and simple.

Cheating AI

Postby Welfur on Sun Dec 22, 2002 11:04 pm

Well, I don't wanna whine, but this years edition of NBA Live is a catastrophy in the way of AI programming !
In All-Star Modus Teams like the Utah Jazz steal the ball round about 25 times in the last quarter ! That's not the problem itself but how they steal:
The AI forgets the basic rules of physics and biology. Otherwise it's not to explain how the arms of players can "grow longer" when needed. I saw steals from players whose feet where more then 2 meters away from the passing route and got the steal  They even got the steals through other players. If EA has a problem with balancing the game well there is one good way to solve it:
1) Get all AI-programmers locked in one room and show them round about 1000 games of real NBA.
2) give them 2 hours to think about what they have seen.
3) let them patch the AI as long as it takes to make it real !!!
4) let them out again (only for a break)
5) let the players test the patch and only when Live 2003 looks like real bb
let them make hollidays otherwise back to 1)

i've gotta agree with those who say this game cheats...i don't mind losing if i played shitty or the computer played a great game. but i solidly fought through a game and nailed a jumper with 1.4 seconds left to give my team the one point lead (this was after being up by 7 but having the ball mysteriously appear in the other teams hands after an inbounds and 6 three pointers in the last 2 minutes). so what happens? the computer inbounds and hits a full court shot by a player who was double teamed. i will not accept a ridiculous loss like that...those kind of plays happen like once every 10 years.

You guys need to loosen up a bit, I think the game's great... I think you may be confusing the words "video game" with "ultra realistic simulator"

2003 is too far away from reality. Just take a look at 2 years ago, 2000 has a much better AI
