In-game Commentary should be improved

Fri May 20, 2005 1:45 am

I hope the people from EA will improve the commentaries in NBA Live 2006... The commentators should express the emotions of the game... If the game is close or something spectacular happened, can the commentators shout or say something unique?? That can make the game more exciting.. Well that's just my opinion..

That would be nice. I like Marv n Mike, but they recycled much of thier commentary from 2004 to 2005. They need new, more extensive stuff. And I agree, commentary responsive to the flow of the game would add lots to the effect.

Will Fratello still be in the game?

Now this is a very intresting question... Fratello's been coaching Grizzlies since like december or something... And been doing really good job at it too after he took over.

Let's just ask, who's commentating on ESPN as EA bought the exclusive rights to ESPN... So if Mike and Marv are not available, I think the ESPN guys will be in the game.

Just a thought...

As the coach of the Griz. If you listen to that EA sports movie when live plays you can hear the great Steve Kerr say "It looks like Detroit is going to switch into a zone defense." so im guessing the commentary wil have Steve Kerr and Marv Albert.

I don't think the ESPN deal kicks in until next year, in which case ESPN commentators won't appear in NBA Live until at least NBA Live 2007. I quite like the idea of Marv Albert and Steve Kerr on Live's commentary track.

They should maybe have a few different special guest commentators for different games, like i dunno um some random Playoffs great provides special comments in the playoffs or like different home games have different special guest commentary.

Also MORE stupid and funny comments like on Nba Courtside 2002
heh i like the occasional laugh. like wen a dude misses a dunk in courtside 2002 the commentator goes "he came from the John stockton school of dunking" or something like that, some pay outs lol but no pay outs about injuries like "the coach is glad it was shitass player wit shit skillz" thats not nice =/

Also Text to speech is the BEST idea i think to solve the custom players commentary rubbish thingy, i hate me being called number 25 its SKRNJUG !!!! not number 25 (N) even though i love the number 25 :D :D :D :) :) :) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :!: :!: :!: :!:

i think the commentary is acceptable at this point. What we need is more extensive commentary so that it doesn't get boring quickly. Perhaps a comment on stats (like in 2000 when they'd note when a player got a triple double or something).

The more new commentary the better the game.

From the video it sounds like Sean Elliott is doing the commentating.

"Detroit goes to a zone defense"
"He's got a chance here to tie the game or maybe even win it"

Some very nice ideas you have there. I hope they do it (Y) [/quote]

Bill Walton commentating from 2007 :|

I'd like to see commentators reflect on things outside of that one game. Other league news, stuff about the players etc.

Wed May 25, 2005 1:46 am

Yeah I second Jae's idea.

"Welcome to the Air Canada center, where'll we get the first glimpse of <insert name> just acquired in a trade with Boston." if there's been a trade to the team just recently.

or something like "Today's game will bea lot tougher, with Ginobili currently sitting out with a sore knee."

Nothing fancy, but enough to catch the vibe of what is going on in the team or the opposition team.

Cheers, Flix

i think Bill Walton is the worst commentator ever. I've heard him saying Steve Nash as the least athletic player in nba.... he often contradict himself. His word choices are poor, and he uses "... in the history of nba..." way too much.

Bill Walton is just hilarious... All that 'Put it down big man' stuff...

I've heard a couple of his games a year ago and I kind of enjoyed it. He often speks himself into a corner and says one thing first and a couple of minutes later he's ranting something completely opposite.

If they could keep Marv and Fratello/Kerr and add ESPN team next to them, that would really make the commentary more variable as you'd have different guys doing the games. It wouldn't get repetetive as fast as it does now.

Thu May 26, 2005 8:38 am

i agree bill walton sucks at commentating, i fall asleep when hes on :P , anyway a cool addition for nba live for the commentary would be the offical home commentaters, like chuck for toronto, al for pheonix (i think al) and so on. I knw its extremely hard to do this and very time consuming, but its just a thought.

Jack Armstrong!!

whatever jack armtrong too.....HELLLLLO!! lol

Fri May 27, 2005 5:16 pm

I agree with your assessment of Bill Walton's commentary. It didn't seem as bad in the 90s, but perhaps that's because he was generally alongside guys like Marv Albert. He tends to exaggerate and flip-flops on certain events in basketball (like a hard foul) depending on who's involved.

Fri May 27, 2005 11:45 pm

IMO, Bill Walton is a horrible commentator. I watch a lot of basketball and he just says the dumbest things. Plus his voice is just annoying! :?

Sun May 29, 2005 5:46 pm

I just noticed something bad in the trailer..... the commentary "They've got a chance here to tie the game or maybe even win it" is repeated in the same trailer...... they better not have this repeated heaps in every close game.
