don't worry, the Greek prodigy has a habit of spinning a web of mystique....as for me, I've been a bit sick and spaced out the last couple of days and am going to try and get my head back into Live and this dynasty today....

argghh!!!! the ASW curse continues....last season my computer froze on me half-way through the All-Star game....this time, well I got through all the events and FRAPS had been working during the Rookie Game, but kept on using it, and I had just completed the All-Star Weekend (incl. a Dunk Contest) only to find all the pics after late in the Rookie Game are not anywhere to be found....FRAPS was working, so I don't know if there is a limit of amount of snapshots that can be put in one folder, but it's wierd, very wierd....

since I've already played the games and have no desire to play them again, here's a brief rundown of what happened....

ROOKIE GAME

Leo "Seraph" Reyes was the story of this game as he blew up for about 26 points as the Rookies once again stunned the Sophomores for the 2nd year running with a narrow win. Aside from Seraph, the most impressive Rookie players was MVP Chris Taft (20pts, 13rebs), and NLSC-er Mark Moore (10pts) put in a solid effort off the bench. For the Sophomores, Guy Dumars 21 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks went to waste as they just couldn't get it done. Aside from Dumars, Askins (18pts, 12rebs), Fowles and Iwanaka (Honor-ism) played well and helped to stage a huge 4th quarter comeback.

I'll post some of the pics from that game later tonight.

3 POINT SHOOTOUT

Gilbert Arenas did solidly and looked good after scoring 24 in his opening round. However a perfect shooting display from Peja (30) and a near-perfect shooting display from J-Will (28) put an end to GA's hopes of advancing to the final round. In the final round, J-Will put up a solid 16, and it looked like Peja would have no trouble as he was at about 14 with 2 trays of balls to go. However, Peja went cold and needed to hit the money ball to win the competition, and he did, taking the contest 18-16 and earning another 3 Point Shootout title to his mantle.

SLAM DUNK CONTEST

Contestants were Josh Smith, Mickael Pietrus, Gerald Green and Silva "Melo" Biason.

In their 1st dunks, Smith, Pietrus and Biason all put up perfect 50s. In the 2nd Round, all but Biason put up perfect 50s meaning a final of Smith and Pietrus. Smith ended up beating Pietrus in a Finals tiebreak to take the title.

Melo was unlucky not to advance to the finals as both of his 1st Round dunks were top notch and he did himself proud.

ALL-STAR GAME

West won this by a few points. Arenas was solid with about 14 points off the bench. Okafor had only the one basket and 2 points in limited minutes. The MVP of the game was Yao Ming who had about 18 points and 11 rebounds, but the real star of the game was Ray Allen who chalked up 29 points and was stellar from beyond the arc.

So that was All-Star Weekend guys....sorry, FRAPS screwed up on me, but I have no desire to play it all again....I had some nice pics and had some snappy one-liners on the way, but to no avail....

I'll post some of the pics I do have from Rookie Game later....

cheers

CATS STUMBLE OUT OF ALL-STAR WEEKEND

Here goes the final 3 games for February 2007. I'll post the February Summary tomorrow.

Feb 21, 2007 - Charlotte 85 @ Denver 103 [INTERVENTION GAME]

Intervening in the 4th quarter and down by 27 points, this game was as good as over, so I let some of the scrubs play. No noteworthy performances for the team as they drop to 22-20.

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Okafor 2pts, Dumars 1pt

Feb 22, 2007 - Charlotte 95 @ Phoenix 98 [SIMMED GAME]

This was a tough simmed loss. The Bobcats once again showed why they are not among the East's elite as they once again faded in the 2nd half to lose this one. Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire outdid anything that All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas pulled out. This 2nd straight road loss dropped the Bobcats to a 22-21 record.

BPMM Points: Arenas 3pts, Simmons 2pts, Dumars 1pt

Feb 26, 2007 - Charlotte 106 vs Atlanta 72 [HUMAN GAME]

The one impression that one could summise from this game is that Atlanta stink. We absolutely blew them out of the water and they should be ashamed with their performance. A balanced scorecard from the team was enough to blow the Hawks away and end the 2 game skid and finish the month with a 23-21 record.

Image
Harrington: "Hey Marko, I know you like the drink, how about you guys throw the game and it's my shout."
Jaric: "Fat chance, how about after we're finished blowing you away I take your Mrs. out and show her that all ballers aren't losers like you."

Other pics:
The X isn't liking where rookie Travis Diener is going with this exchange

BPMM Points: Splitter 3pts, Nene 2pts, Arenas 1pt

that's all for today, February summary tomorrow....

enjoy

FEBRUARY 2007 SUMMARY

For the second straight month the Charlotte Bobcats had a losing month going 4-5 to finish February with a 23-21 record. Once again the team showed flashes of good and bad. The good was the series sweep of the Knicks and the thrashing of the Hawks. The bad was some disappointing home losses, as well as the disturbing trend of 4th quarter collapses. On the bright side, the Bobcats' Emeka Okafor made his 2nd All-Star team as he was named as a reserve for the Eastern All-Stars. Okafor was joined by PG Gilbert Arenas who made his first ever All-Star game as a reserve. Second year players Guy Dumars and Andrew Watson also both appeared for the Sophomores in the Rookie Challenge at All-Star Weekend. With the ASW a distant memory, and the Bobcats still locked into the number 5 seed, it is not too late for the Bobcats to make a surprising push at the number 2 seed in the East which is currently held by the streaking Wizards who have won 5 on the trot. First things first is for the team to secure an inaugural playoff berth, which probably won't happen until deep into April by the looks of it. Either way, these are interesting times in Charlotte where the city hasn't seen a local winning pro basketball team in years. Let's hope the team can stay on par and make the playoffs in their third season out of expansion.

 yeah, there's always that....I would have had to gut the team had I lost to Atlanta....

your move to the starting lineup has really helped not only your game, but Iverson's and the 76ers, who seem to be winning a little more....

as for no face, when I initially installed your cyberface patch, I discovered that your player portrait crashed my game, therefore you will remain faceless

NLSC PLAYER UPDATE (FEB '07)

This is a monthly section that will highlight different NLSC Players each month. With many new NLSC players gracing the courts in the 2006/07 season we cross to the deserts of Arizona to check on a hard Greek who is helping to remove the soft tag that his team, the Phoenix Suns, have often been labelled with.

C/PF- Makis Hassakis (Dweaver), 6'11", 275lbs (Undrafted, Signed by Bobcats, Traded to Suns)

Image
Dweaver gets himself acquainted with the tough streets of Detroit and his boy Sheed

After dominating the paint in the Greek League which is widely considered as one of the finest leagues in Europe, Makis Hassakis decided it was time to bring his game back to the States, where he had played 4 seasons at the illustrious Stanford University. Hassakis was quickly sign by the Bobcats only to be swiftly dealt to the Phoenix Suns, who as always were in need of frontcourt depth. Not much was expect of Hassakis, but he came in on day one ready to work and quickly found a spot in the Suns' rotation with his hustle, board work and relentless attitude. He even became a sportwriter's favourite as he would often provide many memorable one-liners. However, all seemed to change after an early season visit to Detroit where he made friends with Rasheed Wallace. Since then, Hassakis has been more dirty as his elbows have become a weapon against anyone who dares stand in his way. His numbers have dropped slightly since his strong start to the season. This is probably due to Hassakis enjoying the "perks" of the job, rather than coming to play each and every night. If Hassakis can get his act together and pull his head in, he really could have a long, successful career in the NBA. Only time will tell if this is the case. Either way, if you see those flailing elbows anytime soon, then chances are you're on the deck.

Makis Hassakis' 2006/07 Stats:
3.6ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.03bpg, 38.8% FG, 19.0mpg
6.62 NBA Efficiency Rating
4.37 Raw Birdie Score
4.37 Weighted Birdie Score

Ha, I couldn't play PF if my life depended on it... I'm still working on extending my jumper range though.... to 4 feet...

the Greek League which is widely considered as one of the finest leagues in Europe

Used to be the best, now it's just in the top 5... :( I remember the days of 'Nique and Peja playing here...

all seemed to change after an early season visit to Detroit where he made friends with Rasheed Wallace.

I didn't want to insult him when he invited me to his home... although his house did look too much like a warehouse.... oh, and Charles Barkley was along for the 'ride'...

He even became a sportwriter's favourite as he would often provide many memorable one-liners.

Yes, the 'Zorba blog' is famous in the web these days... i got instructed by THE man, Paul Shirley... He even lent me his favorite towel to wave in the bench, but I actually wound up playing...

SG- Honor Glow - 90.6% FG (11th in NBA)

   How many attempts does he have???
