Difficulty level

Sat Mar 19, 2005 12:44 am

Hi, what difficulty do you play on? I'm finding this game so hard on the 2nd hardest level with this seasons Bulls.

I can't quite work out why, I do play on lock for the SG but the last live I had (2003 for psx1) I played 20 regular season games and the playoffs and went 34-1 winning the championship on the hardest level.

Use the Realistic Sliders Thread to custome your game.

Sat Mar 19, 2005 12:57 am

That reply meant for me? Why should I customise it? Wouldn't that defeat the object of getting better to compete rather than making the game easier?

Sat Mar 19, 2005 1:18 am

Personaly i play with the andrew basic sliders at the harder level, since 1998 edition.
Make the game easier is not the objectif of andrew's sliders.
You should play a little more...how did you play? locked on one player or not? try to change way to play.

Sat Mar 19, 2005 1:19 am

he didnt say make it easier, he said make it more realistic, every setting can be defeated as long as the computer doesnt have abilities beyond what they have in real life, but do whatever u want

Sat Mar 19, 2005 1:28 am

Thanks, ah I see. The standard settings aren't that realistic then. maybe I haven't played it enough but I have had most and have picked it up really quickly.

I play 6 minute quarters locked and use the Bulls. I play as Duhon and Gordon, one in the game at a time. Duhon starts and I try and be more of a set up guy and let the computer players make their own decisions to an extent but you still have to help too much. There should be a setting where you only control 1 guy and can't control any aspect of computer play as that would be more realistic.

So, can someone please post Andrews basic sliders list? I'll have a look for it, but is this one ideal if I'm looking for real life on 6 min quarters?

Thanks for the help

andrew's sliders were for longer quarters 10-12min i believe.

I play superstar, 9min with andrews sliders (tweaked them a bit to get CPU and my shooting rating to the same lvl, around mid 40's.) and I'm having a pretty realistic season. I'm 32-21 with Cavs, and 14-13 with Bulls.

I play 4 min superstar and am lookin 4 a harder level... Coz in dynasty mode I don't even lose a game...
Here's my startin 5
PG LeBron James
SG Josh Childress
SF Desmond Mason
PF Kevin Garnett
C Pau Gasol
if you know a site where i can download a 'Megastar' level, please ,nform me coz this type of game bores me yoo much

As far as I know, there are no difficulty level add-ons available to download anywhere.

No wonder you win with that lineup!

Hi. I play with this season's Bulls, too. With my settings (and NBA live practice since '99 :D ) I get very realistic results, scoring 90-110 ppg and receiving about the same amount of points per game. I play on all-star(cause superstar is not a better challenge, the game just does more cheating on superstar difficulty) with 12 min quarters and I use my own sliders, which took me quite a while to figure out. Just try and change the slidrs while you play the game and you will notice the difference for sure. I recommend setting game speed quite low, because it gives you more time to react and stay close to the offensive player. Also, don't be afraid to set shooting percentages for the CPU lower than yours. They will still hit enough to give you a realistic challenge, especially when you contest their shots... :?

Thanks, I've been using Andrews sliders this weekend and the 1st game made a big difference on All-Star level as I should have beaten the Hornets with the Bulls.

Was 39-31 up but they came back to 42-42 and beat me in overtime, quite annoying as until I started not playing-the-game-the-right-way as Larry Brown likes to say I was doing fine.

Andrew, what changes would you suggest for something like 6 min quarters? Which sliders would move a little?

I'm still finding the scoring to be a little weird. Like I said I only control 1 player on the court and shoot a decent % with him (40%+), but using your sliders my other starters shot in the low 30's

Mon Mar 21, 2005 7:58 pm

I'd up the game speed to at least 50. Check out the slider thread, I'm sure a few people have posted tweaks for shorter quarter lengths.

Mon Mar 21, 2005 8:21 pm

Thanks. May I ask why you'd up the game speed? Aren't you trying to find an accurate speed which should then stay set?

If I ended a game shooting 17 of 57 and going for 42 points then that same speed on 12 min quarters would have seen 114 shot attempts and 82 points or thereabout.

I figure if I'd hit another 7 shots then I'd have only shot 42% and would have scored 56 points minimum.

Seems unlikely the Bulls or most teams would get 112 points, 114 shot attempts and only shoot 42%. I didn't even use half my time outs and play the 50 figure for fatigue.

Will have a try, but I don't think the game speed will solve my probs.

Thanks though - has been good to get some better perspective on stuff.

Mon Mar 21, 2005 8:39 pm

Upping the game speed on shorter quarter lengths is one way to ensure the scores are in a more realistic range. Increasing it slightly should allow you to get realistic scores despite playing the equivalent of half a game. Likewise, you should increase the fatigue and subtitutions sliders to compensate for the shorter games.

But I only play on 12 minute quarters, so it's probably best you experiment with your own tweaks (or look up some more specific 6 minute suggestions).

Mon Mar 21, 2005 9:14 pm

Thanks.

Yeah, I probably didn't make it clear. I've always played 6 minute quarters and have tried to get every stat right to 50% of a normal game. it at least allows me some perspective if I'm averaging 50ppg or using teams and getting half the ppg etc with my players and half everything else.

Am going to leave it on 36 speed and play a few games. I advance the ball quite quick and probably don't work good enough shots. I've only played half a dozen games and probably expect to pick it up too quick after playing literally thousands of games on 1999-2003 ps1 versions.

Will also try using some better offensive teams as I got a lot of open shots but the Bulls players (Curry and Gordon) aside couldn't knock them down. Once I've tried a few with the Mavs I'll know if it's me/the settings/or the players.

Thanks

I think this game is too easy... I played on Superstar 12 min and i won every game, score about 120 pts. Then i played ( and i still do) 8 min and i still win EVERY game, usually 95-70. This year its too easy... very easy

Tue Mar 22, 2005 12:28 am

Im sorry, i didnt mentioned that i play with Houston (without my own trades), without setting strategies and (of course  ) with Andrew sliders and rosters.
I hope next year will be harder. More harder.

Tue Mar 22, 2005 2:53 am

I've played with the Rockets and they're very good, it's hard to lose with them. Try using a worse team.

When I get to the point that I always win, I always adjust the sliders to make the game harder like lowering the FG.

Tue Mar 22, 2005 6:39 pm

Until you can beat the CPU by a score of 120-80 consistently and have all you scoring sliders at zero and the CPU scoring sliders at 100 don't come complaining on these boards that the game is too easy!!!

If the game is too easy with Andrew's sliders, then you can always make it harder by adjusting the sliders until you reach that point of which I mentioned before...

The game is as hard as you make it!

Well said

Rockets are brutal because of how frequent Blocks & Steals happen in this game, even with the sliders to zero. Andrew's sliders are pretty forgiving on steals & reach-in fouls, you can turn them down, but you can still intercept passing lanes pretty frequently. If you commit a non-shooting foul and force the AI to pass in from the sidelines, you can intercept the pass up to 50% of the time depending on who you control.

Blocking...omg. You don't even need Yao. I can stick any shot blocker in there (like Tyson Chandler) and rack up 11-12 blocks ...obviously not realistic and makes a huge impact on the final score.

You also don't have the real life McGrady "i don't feel like playing tonight" factor. He's talented but pretty emotional.
