Team strategy - Box Out

Who knows what exactly means "Box Out", options "Auto" - "On" - "Off" in
the Team strategy screen?

And more: who can describe what kind of defense is "Boxout"

Box Out is a type of defense set to stop the opponent "pounding attack". Ex: if you are playng against a team that has a strong inside game (like the Spurs with D. Robinson and T. Duncan you should play with box out ON. If you are playing against a strong perimeter offense (like the Magic)you should put it OFF because the other team would have mores space around the three point line and be able to take more shots (because most of your players would be near the basket if box out was ON)

BUT... i don´t think that NBA Live 2003 makes a very good job of representing this!

I thought BOX OUT meant boxing out on defensive rebounds, because that's what it usually means in basketball. And the option below it CRASH BOARDS would naturally mean being aggressive on the offensive rebounds. But I'm not sure. BOX OUT might be referring to something else in live.

Thats right Wangster but in Live, when you box out, the players stay away from the basket (not UNDER, or NEAR it, like it should be but AROUND it), causing the other team to have problems playing an inside game!

box out is used to keep the other team off the offensive boards. It never really worked right in ea sports live games. esp 2003 since offensive rebounds are few and far between.

the other team can theoretically counter your box out strategy, by turning on crash boards - which is just plain idiotic in 2003. Your guards will stay in to pound the boards and in turn, get torched on the fast breaks.

what the diff with auto?? coz i use auto on double team as well?

When any of the Team Strategy options are set to auto, they are not always utilised, instead being employed when necessary. For example, if you have Double Team set to Auto for Shaq, then when he gets the ball in the post, the double team will come. But if he's out on the perimeter without the ball, there will be no double team.

From what I understand, boxing out can mean "clamping down" on an offensive player from getting an offensive rebound. Usually, a player boxes out an opponent by "backing off" the offensive player farther from the basket. As a result, more space is created between the defender and the basket. That space is HIS space/territory. Defenders start to box out only when a shot is launched.

Sometimes it works in NBA Live, but then again, offensive players always had a hard time getting a rebound anyway.

box out - when on, stay on the backcourt and try to get the defensive rebounds, when off, run the the frontcourt and try to make a quick deuce.

crash boards - when on, try to get the offensive rebounds, when off, run back and get on the defense.
