Converting Cyber faces 2K17 and 2K18 *NEW Discovery*

Mon May 14, 2018 2:12 am

In case you all have missed it. We have finally made progress in converting Cyberfaces
The following info has been moved here from the main Modding and tools progress thread viewtopic.php?f=236&t=103754

Now we can add players that were in 2K17 but no longer in 2K18 ( like the legend Darko Milicic  )

Big thanks to Trevorjpt33.

Bongo88 gave us some pointers way back in September 2017 and Trevorjpt33 helped to reignite the flame in May of 2018.

trevorjpt33 wrote:I haven't seen much about converting CF's from NBA 2K17 when I've been on here, although I do remember earlier on that someone was able to at least get the player to show up in the Edit Player Screen in 2K18, albeit with a lot of glitching.

I am wondering because I know how to convert them and get them to show up with all their features. I just wasn't sure if this would be old news to you guys and you figured it out a while ago or if anyone would be interested to hear. I have successfully converted Reggie Miller's CF from 2K17 and I found that the old face texture files / UV Maps for players from 2K17 can be used so that we don't have to work on new textures that are used in 2K18.

Using the 2K17 cyberfaces does have some glitching but I am starting this standalone thread in the hopes that a few of modders can put our heads together and get it all figured out so that we can put 2K17 missing faces in 2K18 and also add 2K18 rookies and more to NBA 2K17 if possible

Below is the default 2K17 Reggie Miller converted by Trevorjpt33

Converting from 2K17 to 2K18

Here's the process:

- The basic idea is start from a 2k18 png becouse for sure it will load with correct jersey movement...you should start from here

- Remove any low level LOD as you would edit it in blender; In my example i started from 2k18 Deshaun Stevenson model and removing low LOD

- Now I just want to import .model from 2k17 into 2k18 file; I just extract .model from 2k17 png and rename it according to expected 2k18 .model (in this case 2k17 model will become hihead.f0d97b20dfc813e9.model)

- Now open 2k18 png SCNE file and copy "Material" and "Prim" sections from 2k17 png SCNE file...only those two sections I copy from 2k17 SCNE..keep everything else as default from 2k18

- Face texture must come from 2k17...we know that

That's all .....2k17 model will load ingame ...maybe you just need to adjust jersey and accessories size from .RDAT file (I still didn't edit this file)...becouse there is some jersey clipping....also I think using blender this can be solved.

*Edit* You also need to also copy "VertexFormat" data from the 2K17 png.iff to the 2K18 png.iff

Converting from 2K18 to 2K17
(note: so far 2K18 hair does not work in 2K17)

Image

for any subfiles contained within the 2K18 png.iff and face.iff that contain "color_o.TXTR" you need to add data for "Scale" and "Offset" for use in 2K17.
ex.
Image

"Scale" and "Offset" will be added data to face_wrinklecolor_o.TXTR and face_color_o.TXTR (contained in the face.iff file) a player should begin to appear with proper coloring.
This step will take some trial and error but you can copy "Scale" and "Offset" from a 2K17 file if you need to.
Also, if a player has tattoos, you will probably need to this for the chest and leg "color_o.TXTR" files inside the png.iff file
Your resulting progress may look similar to below screenshot.

trevorjpt33 wrote:I went ahead and recorded a short walkthrough (it is silent because I don't have a mic, but I explain each step with text). These videos cover the 2 files that need to be edited to properly get the desired CF to show up in the Edit Player Screen in NBA 2K18 - the appearance_info.RDAT and hihead.SCNE file inside the png.iff archive. Hopefully this video helps. If it goes too quick, just pause it as needed.

As for what you place in your modded folder, you do not have to make any changes to the face.iff archive from NBA2K17. And for the png.iff, you will end up with 4 files in there:
1) The appearance_info.RDAT file that you made changes to
2) The hihead.SCNE file that you made changes to
3) ^The original .model file, only with the part of the file name that says "player" is changed to "hihead"
4) The original .mathnodes file
*Beyond these 4 files, the rest you can add in like you would in any 2K18 file (3D facial hair, hair, etc.). In my case that is shown, I did not need to add any of those since Reggie Miller does not have any 3D hair or facial hair.

I have found that you may not need to replace "player" with "hihead" unless you are going to change the 2K17 .model to match. I just leave it the same

I think the jersey and accessory clipping can be solved by shrinkwrapping the model to a 2K18 model in blender.

Hmm yeah the eye animations do seem off. It wasn’t as noticable with Reggie but with Radmanovic and Rasheed Wallace the eyes clearly are not moving side to side like they should be in the edit player screen. One thing is that they renamed some of the vertex groups for the eye models this year. For example it was L_eyeShape last year and this year it is R_eyeShape. And I believe it went from L_eye_shadowShape to L_eye_capShape or something along those lines. I’m not sure if that would make a difference or not.

I finally tested a face in game and the eyes work perfectly in game. No lazy eyes. I am about to record a lets mod for converting faces. Then I may try to test jerseys.

Re: Converting 2K17 CFs to 2K18 *NEW Discovery*

Mon May 14, 2018 2:26 am

I converted my 2K17 Lamelo Ball Mod and got the jerseys to work in game by lowering the player detail to medium in the video settings.

I still need to figure out how to get the old 2K17 3D hair to show up in 2K18 and also how to get the jerseys to work without lowering the player detail.
This is great that we are still making break throughs.

Absolutely incredible! The eyes look a bit zombie-like but with a little love they can be smoothed out. This is an incredible breakthrough. Hopefully something like this can be carried between 2k18 and 2k19. Nice work to all involved.

So you have gotten the 2K17 hair to show up, but it doesn't look right? And does it apply the hair dds? Right out of the gate I saw the 3d hair but with no textures applied.

I'm working on adding the 3d hair for the Rasheed Wallace I posted yesterday - I got some tweaking to do but once that's done it can be an example to illustrate what I did.

I'd like to do the reverse and convert the 2K18 Kemp to 2K17.

Nice work here, though.

No the 2K17 hair is not showing for me.

I was able to decrease the effect by Shrinkwraping the body with a 2k18 body. But it's still not perfect.
For now I have my Dale Davis in my roster. Looks really promising for the next !!!

Hair is now showing up perfectly for me, again no issues with eyes in live gameplay.
I think I figured out the jersey glitch in live game play about to test now.

Oh awesome I was just finishing up Rasheed Wallace and was gonna show you the hair. Good to hear that hair worked out and eye animations are still working. It will be really nice to be able to use players' hair from 2K17 that is already fitted to their head, as opposed to having to apply a new 2K18 hair. Will save some time for sure.

Let me know about how the test goes for jersey glitching because I've got nothing there at the moment.

I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the jerseys to work the only solution so far is setting player detail to medium.

This is weird. I’ve noticed that during warmups the player looks completely normal but once the game starts they glitch.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the files people edit when they do jersey physics mods.

Its only the jersey with movement that glitches. That is why putting player detail to medium works.

No glitch but some clipping if you don't edit the body.

Not sure if I should start a new thread in NBA2K17 forum..

Has anyone ever had a player's forehead be fine when it is relaxed but then when it wrinkles it turns a completely different color? I am pretty sure it is one of the "wrinkle" face files but I tried messing around with them and haven't had any luck so far.

There are more files in the face.iff archive with alpha channels in 2K18 vs 2K17, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Also, the face was really pale when I first got him converted, in 2K18 there is some sort of mask in the .TXTR file that goes over the face texture. It does not appear to be in 2K17, because in 2K18 there's nothing wrong with it. It's something we can work with though - all I did was jump into Photoshop and adjust the color and it looks more passable now.
