[VIDEO] Downgrading 2k18 PC version without a backup !Help Needed!

Let me say this first:

First of all, this is my first post on this forum. I was really excited when I first found this out, and it may not be the "perfect" fix that I claimed it would be. However, as far as I was able to test it, it does seem to work. All that's needed is for someone else with a backed up .exe library to do the legwork. [prob. about 5 min.] The video should explain everything else.

This doesn't seem to work. I followed all of the steps but Steam isn't downloading anything.

It would only work if an archive version of the game was kept on the server.

Then again, I might not have done it right.

Followed the steps, it tries to download. But doesn't actually download anything.



It also started printing a "depot download error" message to the console. (Not pictured here)

worked for me. followed the guide, entered the code into the console, went to the download section to steam, and it is blank, but the download usage shows 2.1mb/ second... downloaded 300mb of stuff....

You will not be have a progress bar in Steam for the downloading. You won't even be able to manually pause the download, either. You will be able to tell when it's done when you have no network usage by going to the "Downloads" section in the Steam application.


so, now download bar in the download page, but download network activity will show. then you gotta find the files and move it to the proper 2k18 folder.

anyways, if ya get it working, its an option.

Edit: I've also gotten the painfully slow Steam depot download method to work as well. (For 2k18 that is)

Well, for me, i have to set max download speed to 200Mb, otherwise download takes all the bandwith (1Gb) and Steam crashes

Oh, I see you. I got myself a backup of the release version, would you suggest me to use it instead of the latest patched version? I only play offline, to be honest. 2K really done messed the My Career mode this year. I do player career mode on My League with player lock instead.

Does reverting to an older version affect roster updates?

reverting to an older version has nothing to do with the roster files so you can still use an updated roster with an old version of the game.

This should help everyone wants to use the older cheat tables and some trainers that were released earlier in the game's life cycle
*note PC never received patch 1.07 as 1.08 was released the very next day.

Does downgrading .exe get rid of new shoes added? Not sure if the shoes are part of roster updates or the actual game updates...

You are just creating an extra.exe not overwriting the current one. Shoes are tied to rosters. Jerseys should be tied to rosters also

me too...

I did more testing and noticed that the newly created exe files are not working as intended. The only thing that happens is the new exe files launch the original nba2k18.exe file.

I confirmed this by removing the original nba2k18.exe and attempting to run one of the newly created .exe's.
Steam immediately downloads the nba2k18.exe again and then boots that instead of the newly created .exe

In conclusion, this downgrade method is not working at all.
