Out of Memory!

Postby Dirtdog1- David on Fri Nov 15, 2002 2:43 am

Is this happening to anyone else. I have tried to install the game about 10 times. The installation process goes well until i reach 3.23% thats were it stops and gives me an error saying (Autorun- Out of memory) are you kidding me. There is no way! Has this happened to anyone and does anyone know how to fix this. I installed the Demo just fine, and it played smoothly.

I am running a 1.6Ghz, 512ram, P4 with Geforce4 Ti 4600

I need some help

512MB RAM might be too much because Windows 9x can't handle so much properly. Try it with less if you can. Not sure if it'll help but it's worth a try I'd say.

Nah Im not about to take some ram out, i don't think that would help. Thanks anyway..... I have pinpointed the problem but don't know what to do now. The file it locks up on and then gives me an out of memory error is (sysmgr\xflist.lop) i don't know why. I went on the Ea sports site and searched, and found an error file from Madden that was somewhat similar. I tried what they suggested, by copying all files from the disk to a empty folder and installing from there. It worked up until it reached this same file again and froze up on me (this was while i was copying the files), so i never got to try to install using this method. I even returned the game to the store and got another.........same problem. I am getting real F*%6# mad

Does anyone know what the deal is here.

Have you tried:

Using Explorer to copy that file to the hard drive just to see if you can copy it? It's in the Sysmgr directory. If you can copy it, then the problem is not the cd.

Using MSCONFIG to disable Autoexec.bat, Config.sys and ALL the startup group items. Background tasks and TSRs (terminate and stay resident programs) can sometimes interfere with an install.

Enabled or disabled DMA access on the cdrom drive?

Reduced or disabled the "Supplemental Cache Size" for the cdrom drive?

Note: Not all startup group items are disabled by MSconfig. After rebooting, hit Control+Alt+Delete to bring up the "Close Program" dialog box. Do an End Task on every item except for Explorer and Systray. Some items may require more than on try to close.

I got it, thanks to all that helped me out........ but the only thing that needs to be upgraded is my CDROM drive. It just would not read that file. Like a dummy i had been trying to install it all this time, when i thought why don't i try my Cd burner, "thats just like a CdRom" and it zipped right through and installed on the first try. :D

Thanks

Upgrade your OS dude. 98 is getting old. Win2k or XP are more stable.

The reason i don't upgrade the OS is i still play some older games. Which Xp won't support. High Heat 2002 is one and a couple more.

The game is running smooth now, from what i always hear Win98se is the best OS for gaming.......

Not anymore dude. Live 2003 is evidence of that. I would reccommend Doing a Dual Boot setup. of Win 98SE and Win2k or XP. It is fairly simpe.

Insert the XP/2000 CD and start the setup. When it asks you whether you want to upgrade your Win 98 installation or do a new install select "new install" (don't know the exact wording right now). Later you can select the partition where you want to install. That's it.

You can go here to check the compatibility of games with Windows 2000/XP. For High Heat Baseball 2002 it says:
Works fine, even though install advises not to install in win2k

DOS games can run under 2000/XP with NTVDM. There are other alternatives as well.
