NVIDIA Users - Performance this year?

Sat Oct 14, 2017 4:07 am

HI all,

Just curious... last year was a nightmare performance wise for NVIDIA Cards running the game. it seemed that most people who had good cards were getting terrible FPS.

This isn't really for me, more curious if they did anything to fix the issue. I have an RX 480 with an AMD processor and I can run the game perfectly fine (Same with 2K17). My brother has a NVIDIA 970 in his, and his FPS was horrible even with a good processor for 2K17 (He could run The Witcher 3 on ULTRA with the same rig).

same card, FPS not OK without tweaks.
OK after tweaks.

i7 4790K and MSI Gaming 5 but i think the problem is 100% GPU related
it was the same on 2K17 for me. With default drivers settings, GPU was at 99% in nvidia inspector monitor most of the time.
After tweak, it's about 70/80%

Yeah, performance doesn't seem too much better to me, but I admittedly haven't tried any tweaks yet. Open to suggestions in that regard.

1060 6GB, runs same as last year which is just fine though I've never put a fps meter on. Neither one has ever triggered the second tier on my fan settings which is at like 50 degrees or something.

Titanfall 2 is about all that does that, and Civ VI eventually does it after so many hours because progressive heat build up.

I had worse hitching in the last gen games because of the vsync and HDD access issue.

Similarly, the main difference between this year and last year I'm pretty sure has nothing to do with my card but some bad animation transitions that make the traveling in your avatar look like legal dribbling.

I was getting a solid 60 fps @4k. But after patch 1.04 fps is lock at 40 WTF!!!

Tested it out last night. Completely maxed out, I was getting around 50-60 fps with V-Sync on, a bit of stuttering. Performance was better with V-Sync off, but still not as smooth as it is on PS4. i5-4690K, GTX 970, and 8 GB of RAM, so performance should be better.

GeForce Experience shadow update ?
Have you check your new vidia settings ? sometimes, i have to reapply my profile after nvidia service did what it want.

I don't think the 1060 was the issue last year or the year before. I think it was the 900 series cards.

I wonder why the game is optimized worse for Nvidia? You never hear AMD users having issues.

Btw, have you guys tried running your AA through Nvidia instead of the game?

The moment an 1060 has a better performance than a 970, hell, even a 980, it's clear the problem is on their end. I am using 8x AA through my Nvidia control panel - "enhance the application" setting. In game, the AA is set to 4. I get decent performance 80% of the time. The fps drops and stuttering is yet again related to the crowd - AA combo. Some arenas have a broadcast angle of view which includes a bigger part of the crowd than usual (take the Mavericks for example). That pretty much leads to horrible performance during in-bounds plays and fastbreaks. The problem is, I've enabled my FPS counter to check the actual numbers and the FPS drop is anywhere between 1 and 4 during those moments. That's not enough to be noticeable in other games. Yet, here I am, watching my game like going Matrix-slow-mo for a few seconds. As a result, I believe that besides the small fps drop, the other thing that makes me see those moments as a sluggish hell is some classic 2K stuttering.
And as one of my friends would say, when you get big FPS drops, you might consider an upgrade because that's probably your GPU. When your fps are ok but you get stuttering, you might consider a new gamming company because that's just bad optimisation 95% of the time.

For every multi-platform game, if we, the PC users complain about the bad optimisation, we are seen as "PC masterace" crybabies who want to max out the game instead of "turning off some NVidia shitty settings" to get decent performance. The moment you Andrew, the most neutral guy I've seen on these forums from the moment I've joined NLSC almost 5 years ago state that the performance should be better, they should be listening lol. That's for you, 2k inside guy. I know you are lurking this thread :cheeky:

Thanks bro... I got it to run back at 60fps. Actually it seems it's running better. I set all my nvidia settings back to default and restarted my PC then put the same settings back in and it worked. I don't know what was causing it because the only change I made was the 2k update. I'm confused...

cool :)
best trick : use nvidia inspector, save your game(s) profile(s), restore when it happens

Has 2K had any responses to the issues? I havn't seen acknowledgment of the issues.

I can't recall anything being said recently.

For Windows 10 users : disable all MS options (Xbox / DVR game) in the (new) settings Game pannel

It also seems that last Win 10 update, Fall Creator Update, improves stuttering.

I get random stuttering too after the new Windows update. The game works fine for the first part of the quarter, then it all goes to slow-mo, no matter the tempo of the game. Just great.

I switched to PC this year since i was tired of xbox one lack of customization.

I have a good processor (i 7 3770) and good ram (16 gb) but my graphic card is a geforce 640 (only 2 gb). I overclocked the gpu and i'm playing at 1080 with minimum quality for crowd and all the other little stuffs. The game isn't so smooth though.

Funny is that they recomend a 2gb card for system requirements but it obviously won't run smooth with it. I think i'm going to buy a rx 480 8gb to be ready for 2k19.
I'm tired of consoles.

Btw, anybody playing with 2gb cards wants to share his experiences and tweaks?

Runs perfectly in 4k here. 4x AA, rest of the settings maxed, on 1080, CPU is 6700k.

He said 1080, referencing the 1080 Nvidia card I believe.
