Whats really wrong with the gameplay

Postby go7denboot on Wed Nov 30, 2016 8:19 pm

If you really want to know what miss to this game to make it a real simulation and a lot less enjoyable read this with attention. I've test a lot of different variations of sliders and I came to the conclusion that 3 simple elements are the issue.

I. Not enough fouls on rebounds, this is the most important thing they need to update bc its the primary reason of all the issue, bring realistic amount of fouls on rebounds would increase the amount of personal foul to a correct number, reduce the number of total rebounds and reduce the amount of inbound N run play bc the defense would be already back in their zone. The real issue about that is that the over the back slider is not effective at all, even if I raise it to 100, I only have 1-2 max rebound fouls on a HoF 12min Game, Really? Illegal screens too are not enough engaged bc that makes the same effect for the inbound N run plays and that would help the T/O number raise to a correct amount instead of the every dribble moves lead to a fumble who is the

II. second issue they really need to fix bc its simply not realistic at all and only annoying , I need to put the Ball Security to 75 n the Body-Up Sensitivity to 5!! to make it playable.

III. The last important issue could take an entire life to debate bc I saw some people complains about shots that dont goes in enough when their wide open and Idk if Im a 2k17 god or what but Its not normal that playing on HoF v. Cpu I need to put my mid-range and 3pt slider on 28%! to get acceptable FG%

Im not saying that these are the only problem that need to be fix but they are clearly the most effective issue on the gameplay and stats. If someone could post a thread about that on Operation Sport that would be kind bc I dont want to post shit just to be able to create threads.

Solid observations.

Something else I've noticed this year is that fast break AI is pretty dumb at times, with CPU-controlled teammates running too close to the ballhandler (as though they want to set a screen or something) rather than filling the lane properly and getting into a good position to finish at the rim. Some players should (and do) fade to the three-point line as that's another viable play on the break, but too many bigs who aren't strong three-point shooters do it as well, when they should be wanting to keep moving to the hoop where they can finish and be rewarded for running the floor.

I'd also add annoying moving charge calls.

Other than that I agree pretty much, Kyrie is not gonna lose ball every second crossover he makes.

Ah yes, the cheap charging calls. Definitely exploited in 2K Pro-Am, and shouldn't be happening as frequently offline either.

Overall, it's a very solid game and the gameplay is by far one of the best. Sometimes the AI does break down and they will run around and do stupid stuff for no reason.

This sums up what's wrong with the gameplay, or a really frustrating one that happens 2, 3, 4 times a game.

My biggest pet peeve about the game, right here. If they could fix those defensive lapses by the AI I would be mostly a happy player.

This happens in the half court offense a lot as well, with AI players getting beat on backdoor cuts far to often.

Yup, I get called for a charge when my defender is running next to me, but I also get called for a foul when I have been set well before the defender runs into me. Go figure.

I know, ridiculous right? Players shooting corner 3's, are left wide open as well. Once the screener sets a pick, you're dead. No way to go over the screen to defend the shot, that goes in 99.99% of the time. Also when a big switches to help on a drive to the hoop, you're leaving the lane open for offensive rebounds and put-backs. If they would tighten up players wandering around aimlessly, not guarding their man, I'd be more than happy.

I've noticed an increase in AI reach-in calls in MyLEAGUE. In past 2K and Live games, I have been the one that has lacked the discipline, but it seems that the AI reaches a lot in 2K17. There are times where I think it happens to bail me out, but sometimes it happens at a really inopportune time.

Jesus am I sick of those backdoor mistakes, there's gotta be something wrong with player acceleration or change in direction speed because it happens way way way too often. I just had a rage quit because of a streak of those and then I got a defensive rebound and tried to outlet to my SG right next to my bigman under the basket with nobody around them, and instead of a handoff pass it did a legit pass (they were no more than 5 ft away from each other) and I don't even know how but the SG had to change direction and ended up out of bounds. Like what?

Reducing backdoor cuts doesn't seem to help either because really he's not cutting he's just running down the court and your big on D is just retarded trying to pick him up at the 3. Bigs don't seem to sag off properly when they should, and they're so slow that if they get out of position the whole possession may as well be 4v5.

I'm basically going to rant this whole post about various issues that have made me not able to play more than 1 game at a time:

 Big man transition defense leading to easy backdoor passes and buckets. Stated already above.

 Loose balls and general AI awareness. I've noticed this for quite a few years. Ball gets loose with 3 of your teammates around it, and only 1 opposing player, your players stand around like idiots, opposing player gets the ball without contest basically.

 Transition offense. Every single numbered fast break ends in a Russel Westbrook type stop and pop from mid range. They never seem to actually make a nice advantage in numbers transition play. How many 2k releases in a row have we been told the fast break is improved?

 As stated above as well, on the user side, your CPU teammates far too often seem to fade to the 3 instead of filling the lane to the basket. Even players that have never taken a 3 in their career. Over all the entire transition gameplay seems completely broken tbh. I don't see give and goes or nice 2/3 on 1's that end like they should. I swear last years transition offense was better.

 I just started seeing the moving charges recently, and yea they're annoying. I'm sure sliders will help, as I never saw legit charges anyways, turning them down shouldn't be a problem.

 Teammate help and defensive rotations. I've noticed a few times now that if you're defending an off ball player and sag off too much (but not an unrealistic amount), sometimes your teammate will rotate to cover the player, but from somewhere far away and leave a player who actually can shoot from deep wide open. Why would they rotate to help an a off ball player who is not a threat from deep? Secondly your teammates take far too long to realize when you've switched due to screens or getting out of position. Usually they run half way to the target you've switched to before realizing you have switched, then they turn around and go back to the player they should have been covering. This back and forth and indecisiveness leads again to pretty much a 4v5 for a few seconds.

 Maybe I've missed it, but is there no inside pass frequency slider? I don't want to decrease passing attribute and offensive AI but there seems to be wayyy too many threading the needle inside passes to guys down low. Maybe position actually means something this year, which would be great, except how do you fix the CPU getting easy position down low then?

 Big men speed/acceleration/movement. I talked about this already a bit, and I do appreciate the fact that big guys don't feel like giant Allen Iverson's, but it's just too far off and results in some ugly ball in other areas. I've played a great deal with the Knicks, and so Noah is where I've seen this example the most. There could be a loose ball 5 ft away from him under the basket, and the CPU will get to it from the 3 pt line with time to spare before Noah gets to it, even though he's 7 ft and should almost be able to reach out and touch the ball w/o moving. This slowness affects second chances, loose balls, 3 in the keys, defensive rotations, etc. I don't want him running the fast break or defending PG's but he's an absolute disaster to have on the court. He's supposed to be a hustle player, a defensive rock and he's pretty much a liability in every area other than the odd rebound. I've yelled at Noah a ridiculous amount of times for him just looking stupid.

 Minor gripes that may not affect everybody: The same game has been released how many times in a year now? Yet for some reason all of a sudden I can't play the game on max settings with a 970 and 3570k? Before lowering crowd detail to lowest I couldn't finish a game because it would become a slideshow in the 4th quarter (indicating a memory leak I would assume?). I've read the Nvidia thread and didn't see much that helped other than lowering crowd detail. Secondly player responsiveness. I see people raving about the ball handling and I just don't see it. Post moves feel delayed and sloppy, dribbling doesn't feel much better. And sometimes I can't do a simple triple threat size up move or anything for no reason. I can repeatedly jab on the stick to do a jab step and it may take me 3 or 4 attempts before the player actually does anything.

I initially was playing on a much lower setting and was having some fun, but winning too often, and even in losses FG% was wayy too high for both teams. Tried bumping up to Hall of Fame and was missing even open shots mostly due to release timing and couldn't find a RealPlayer release setting. And the cheese was just too much.

I thought i was the only one experiencing this problem. For the corner 3's its straight up ridiculous how the AI dosent guard their man. For the longest time i considered that i was the one playing bad defense until i seen it in the instant replay. Although its much worse this year 2k has been having this issue for years now.

Defense have always been an issue with 2K even way back in the previous but I've noticed this year it's a lot worse. I'm a simulation kind of guy and it's ridiculous that the AI can just shoot a 3 from Curry range with 1 second left in the shot clock and it's still goes in. I also noticed that your teammates just stand waiting for the ball even with freelance motion (or the play where they should move depending on what you do with the ball) set and with the AI defense seem set to 100%, I ended up pulling a awkward fade away from mid and bricking.

The fastbreak issue has been stated here many times too.

Chris Smoove pretty much sums up the issue the game has. Even though he plays MyCareer shit happens even in MyLeague/Play Now offline.

Yikes, yea that first Smoove video really cut it to the point. I haven't delved too much into myCareer, and online has always been a lost cause for me. But it's pretty astonishing the lack of fundamental improvements from last year. Ugh what a waste of money...

Those lapses in the defensive AI, and moments when CPU teammates actually seem to quickly scoot out of the way or casually step aside to let opponents score more easily, are definitely frustrating. It's probably a bigger issue in MyCAREER since you're really at the mercy of CPU-controlled players when you're player-locked, but it's still an issue in regular gameplay as well. After all, you shouldn't have to constantly switch players on defense (and do so in the blink of an eye) just to make sure that competent defenders are indeed defending competently more often than not.

^^ Until they fix the non-existent defensive schemes for users ( the CPU defensive AI is always outstanding), this game while good, truly won't reach it's full potential, to being legendary.

I've noticed this year you have to turn a lot of stuff up for the users with the sliders this year, because of the 'sim' non-fun factor. A lot of these games in general in 2016 handicap the user and it's not ideal at all. I don't get it.

I found out that a lot of the problems (vs CPU) have to do with the bad rosters. The official 2k rosters tendencies are way off. And further there are some tendencies that kill the game. I figured out how to make the game more enjoyable by completely overhauling some of the tendencies. The rotations are still off but they can at least be improved by some slider tweaks and defensive settings.
