Champs Roster Official Suggestion Thread- VER 1.00 Completed

Discussion about NBA Live 2003.

Postby hetoft on Sat Jan 04, 2003 2:48 am

I like this sort of roster patches... Will you also make a Legends roster
(like in NBA Live '99) ? If you want, i'm ready to help you... Right now, i'm in the making of a "special" roster with fx All-Dunk Team, All Rookie Team, All 3PT Team and so on.

Hi,

I noticed that teams with Phil Jackson in the champs roster, while showing scenes with the coach, he has dark hands? :?:

I only tried LA '82, CHI '91 and CHI '98. Don't know if the other ones with Phil Jackson coaching has the same problem.

Btw your patch rocks. LA'82 is very tough to beat. :D

And can anyone gimme a brief history on Michael Cooper? I noticed he's a very good player(well in the champs roster that is). Coz you always hear about Magic, Abdul Jabbar, but you seldom hear about Cooper. I was born in 82 so I don't know much about him. thanx.

Hawk23, thanks first of all for making this patch. It's great! Only had a chance to play a couple of games but noticed the following:

John Paxson (91-93 bulls) seems a bit fat. Maybe the bodytype could be changed to a thinner guard version.

Your version of Charles Barkley (Phoenix) looks a little like Popeye Jones. I think it's missing his mustache? Also he could be a little wider/fatter with a rounder head.

I know this is a Champs patch but it would be cool to have the 92-93 Hornets (Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Muggsy Bogues, Kendall Gill) that upset the Celtics in the playoffs. I might make the team myself someday but if you're interested, here's a URL to the roster:

I saw on the list of suggestions a request to tweak the block shots, steals, speed. I suggest leaving it as it is or providing a separate tweaked version. I've tried porting a couple classic teams to the default roster. It's fun to play current teams vs old teams as well sometimes and if the rosters were tweaked, then the champs teams would actually be weaker than the current teams. Have a "reference" roster and let people tweak it themselves since everyone's preferences are different.

Also noticed the problem with the coach being white and his hands being black. Think this happened with the Phoenix 92(?) coach.

Hawk, I see from your site that DK helped you with some of the DBF files. Couldn't you get him to Mass Edit all the rating so the play is realistic?

No... Hawk23 made a champs roster, not a tweaked roster to slow down gameplay.... if you want them tweaked, you can do it yourself. Although, it wouldnt mind if there was one untweaked and one tweaked version.

Celtic corrections

Postby td3ph on Mon Jan 06, 2003 4:58 pm

Ive tweaked the gameplay with your rosters and I'm quite satisified with it. I'm just wondering how will i retain my tweaked stats if ever you come up with additional teams or version 2.00? Maybe you can help me with this.

Some changes that I would like to add

sam vincent, david thirdkill of the celtics are black players
scott wedman is a lefty

Great work on the rosters man!

I was playing with the 97 or 98 Chicago team and noticed a few players such as Ron Harper having blue wristbands. Is this just a porting error? Should they be white?

Another suggestion: How about adding the Minneapolis Lakers championship teams of the 50's that featured George Mikan? They won the championship in 49, 50, 52, 53, 54. If I remember correctly, George Mikan is missing from the default 50s all stars squad but he was the first great center, is in the hall of fame and revolutionized the game in his day.

More on the Minneapolis Lakers:
Somone apparently made a 51-52 historical roster for NBA Live 2000.

see:
http://www.add-ons.de/nba2000.htm

Unfortunately, I couldn't download the file. Otherwise, you could conceivably just port the team over from the old db instead of creating it from scratch.

Even more on the Minneapolis Lakers:

Here's some good pages of info:
http://stewthornley.net/mplslakers.html
http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/mpls/mplslakers.html

Year by year record and stats:
http://stewthornley.net/mplslakers_year_by_year.html

Uniform numbers
http://stewthornley.net/mplslakers_uniformnumbers.html

They were all white guys. I'd use the bodytype = 16 (?, the one used for the old players and john stockton). I guess I'd use the 50s old style court with no 3 pt line for their home court.

Their best season appears to be 1949-50 when they went 51-17 and won their third straight championship. If I had to pick two rosters, I'd choose the 49-50 season and the 53-54 season. The 49-50 season was their best, the 53-54 season was the last year before Mikan retired but they again won their third straight title and that team featured all the Minneapolis Hall of Famers: George Mikan, Clyde Lovellette, Slater Martin, George Mikan, Vern Mikkelsen and Jim Pollard (Clyde Lovellete is not present in the 49-50 team)

Man... I'd definitely make this team if I had more time! :)

Last bit of statistical information I could find on Minneapolis Lakers players:

Bob Harrison:
http://www.basketusa.com/html/joueurs/h/harrison_bob.html

Looks like that's all the players that the basketusa.com site has information on.

Tried the playoffs mode with the patch.

1. Attempting to change the teams in the playoffs crashes the game.
2. If I try to choose a custom playoff type instead of the default NBA type, the playoff slots are all empty and cannot be changed to any team.

Milwaukee 71- Lew Alcindor (aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) is rated too low and looks wrong.

Alcindor should have a beard and an afro. see:
http://www.jsonline.com/sports/buck/other/may01/bucks-finals.asp

Ratings wise, the roster patch has Alcindor at 75. It should be much higher (high 80s, low 90s) as he led the league in scoring that year, was 4th in rebounding and was Finals MVP.

Orlando 95- Penny Hardaway should be really skinny. At that time, he was probably one of the skinniest players in the game.

Scoring Areas

Postby Welshy on Thu Jan 09, 2003 3:29 pm

I think it would really improve gameplay if you updated all players scoring areas. I know this would take a while but it would make gameplay so much more realistic. Great roster by the way!!
