Has anyone been able to upgrade their free throw rating?

Has anyone been able to upgrade their free throw rating?

Postby Andrew on Tue Sep 20, 2016 3:36 pm

It's not a purchasable upgrade this year. Instead, it's apparently achieved through running the Free Throw Golf drills in scheduled team practices (approach the free throw line while shooting around to trigger it). However, I've been doing the drill fairly consistently, and I've yet to see any improvement. I've heard that there might be an issue with it, so I'm interested to know if anyone has actually had any success. Running through other drills, I have actually gained the occasional +1 to Intangibles and Hustle.

Incidentally, a starting free throw rating of 66 for a Playmaker point guard seems absurdly low.

I just received +1 Free Throw yesterday evening. I ran FT drill 2 or 3 times. So in this point we need some clarification of how 'Doin' Work' stuff working in terms of upgrading different attributes. How we get "+1" in any category: randomly or we filling some kind of meter during drills. Also doesn't straight what drills are giving +1 in what attributes.

As it happens, not long after I posted this, I received a +1 to Free Throw after completing a drill. After that, I ran the free throw drill around 20 more times (ie around 200 attempts), but didn't receive any more boosts. It would definitely be good to get some clarification on what we need to do to boost certain attributes, and whether or not it's random.

Currently it is tempoirary but Bishop (dev) said on twitter that it is permanent so I think it is bug. Because for a lot of people they upgrade through drills and then it disappears after a day.

As far as I can see, the upgrade has remained, but getting it in the first place took a long time (and I'm not sure if it was completely random). Anyway, does sound like there's some issues there.

Defo... I did the drill about 20 times in a row... still nothing. To be fair I only finished with bronze each time but this is getting a bit stupid.

I'm wondering if it's cumulative score across a few training sessions, to prevent you from maxing out your ratings if you do have the patience to play through the drill 20, 30, 40, 50 times in one session. As I said, it would be good to get some confirmation on how all those upgrades function, and the various requirements.

I highly doubt it. I mean I tried that as well and tbh... why would you prevent people from torturing themselves? I mean it already costs 240.000 VC to completely upgrade your player... so it would be fairly cruel to sort of prevent me from getting free upgrades by limiting the progress you can make. But I did try to shoot free throws for 5-6 practices in a row and it still hasn't moved. I have gained intangibles, whatever that is supposed to be, for several drills and I gained hustle from lifting weights once and getting a gold badge.

Personally I feel, like last year, that maybe 2k should spend less money on fancy absoluting meaningless trailers and a bit more time writing articles or having the devs explain certain features in details. How about giving us some clue which drills let you develope which skills and how many times on average you need to perform them instead of saying: find out for yourself! I miss the good old days of printed manuals...

When you get an upgrade for one attribute you cannot gain more in that particular practice.

I feel like they make your player's starting overall WAY too low. Like around mid 50's, if you're the hot one out of college you should at least start off at a 70, I understand it's a good way to make money and it's to make it more of a grind but the storyline makes you think you would start off already as a decent player

On one hand, there's merit and fun in finding some of this stuff out for ourselves. On the other hand, it would be nice to have some clues, or a general idea.

Ah, good to know!

Definitely. I'm liking the way the story is implemented this year much more than I did in NBA 2K14-16, and as much as I'm likely to ever like the story-driven approach. However, there is still that disconnect where you're supposed to be a top prospect, yet your ratings are more along the lines of someone who'll be a career benchwarmer.

I'm having a hard time making FT's in game, and I haven't even tried any mods yet... Not feeling this new way of shooting FT's.

With the low starting rating for my MyPLAYER, it's brutal...especially in 2K Pro-Am.

Just checked, looks like I did lose that point I earned for my free throw rating. Looks like there's definitely a bug.
