Also, some information to read:

Mike (bedwardsroy), regarding Overall Ratings in 2K15, wrote:As NBA 2K15 Overall ratings are released, I think it is important to point out that NBA 2K15 will feature a revamped formula to determine a player's overall rating. This year a player's overall rating will be determined by what "type" of player they are. By having more dynamic overall rating formulas it allows for players who are highly valued by teams to have a more representative "Overall" rating. Specialists such as great defenders, shooters, and rebounders will have an overall value that properly displays their worth to an NBA team.

The goal of the newly calculated Overall formulas is to as accurately as possible show a player's value in the NBA. The new formula will really highlight those players that play a very important role on their team, but may not be the prototypical player at their position. All players in the NBA provide some sort of value to their team, and the revamped Overall formulas should really illustrate that in NBA 2K15.

Leftos, regarding Overall Ratings in 2K15, wrote:Each Position has a set of Archetypes (or Player Types, if you will). All-Around, Athletic, Defensive, etc. A player has an overall per player type per position. So a player has (NumberOfPositions * NumberOfPlayerTypesPerPosition) overall ratings. Each Positional Player Type has its own overall formula (so PG All Around has a different formula than PF All Around has a different formula than C Defensive).

Whenever his overall rating gets updated, we calculate all the overall ratings for his position by player type. The player type that gives him his the highest overall is the one we determine "most compatible", so we assign it to him along with that Overall.

So yes, a player that might be C All-Around but as years go by sees his offensive attributes regress but you've made sure to keep him up to par defensively using (cheap plug but I'm a dev) our new in-season Training system, might see his player type change to C Defensive, and his value to the team will still be there.

424 seems to be the exact number of players under guaranteed contract. It seems they're not revealing the ratings for free-agents or training camp invitees.
But their roster is apparently not up-to-date, since Thabeet and Raduljica were waived and Huestis will play in the D-League.

Just to clarify, the player ratings that are being revealed are for players that will be on a team in the out of box roster. Player movement that happened post ship will be accurate in a roster update

Good to hear. (Y) I hope rookies outside of this year's draft class also receive accurate faces and speech. Like for instance, Papanikolaou, Rudez, Jerrett, Moreland, Cotton, Erick Green. A few of them have been signed for almost two months now.

You know, I always wonder whether there are players that get mad at EA and/or 2K about their ratings, particularly benchwarmers and scrubs whose attributes probably don't come across as all that flattering.

Me too. I guess that's why they don't play 2k/Live since some of them are way too underrated

Oh, it's that time again. Time for the most meaningless info of the pre-release time period - overall ratings. Yay.

Wondering how long it'll take for people to come in and start complaining about Player X's overall being one point too high or too low.

It's September. Tell us something substantial about gameplay and some more about game modes already.

It looks like you guys have put a crazy amount of work in this year. I'm pumped even more now.

Can you tell us anything about the Draft Combine statement? Will we just be getting the stats from a behind the scenes combine or will it be more than that?

This explains why no one is rated 99 overall this year. If Drummond can't be 99 overall, no one can. :scold:

The more a player is in touch with 2k, the better rating they get. Sometimes it looks to me like that. I'm ready to see players from teams like Grizzlies getting snubbed again.

Prove me wrong please ;)

9/11 Observations
LeBron James (98 Overall) is the highest rated active player
Dirk Nowitzki (seemingly) gets proper value in the new ratings system. It remains to be seen if his weaknesses (blocks, rebounds, etc) are still over-compensated to get him there.
Nick Van Exel and Rick Fox are still missing from the 97-98 Lakers team.

Dwight Howard is no where to be found. Interested to see where he fits in.
