Scott O’Gallagher leaves EA SPORTS for NBA 2K15 & 2K Sports
http://www.goodgamebro.com/2014/06/24/o ... 2k-sports/In the Summer of 2012, EA SPORTS made a rather brilliant hire in bringing in former professional basketball player Scott O’Gallagher to work on the NBA Live development team.
After speaking with numerous sources close to both companies, it appears that O’Gallagher has left EA SPORTS & accepted an offer with 2K Sports. We haven’t been able to reach confirmation on what exactly that offer entails in terms of a position, but we’re under the impression that it deals with NBA 2K15‘s gameplay side of development.
To help further the rumor that his new position is with 2K Sports, we’ve noticed that two of his recent followers are 2K Sports & 2K Games employees. It’s incredibly likely that this is just a coincidence, but given the timing it lends further credibility to the 2K Sports rumor.
NBA Live 13 didn’t ship on its targeted date after O’Gallagher had been there for a few months, and EA SPORTS confirmed that they were focusing on NBA Live 14 instead. Live 14 released to a rather poor Metacritic rating, which lead to a series of open letters from the game’s executive producer Sean O’Brien.
In 2009, Mike Wang left 2K Sports to work for EA SPORTS & on NBA Live. Roughly a year and a half later, Wang had departed the studio to head back to 2K Sports. While we still don’t know the reason as to why O’Gallagher has left, having those two basketball minds potentially working together is exciting for sports gamers.
With NBA Live 15 releasing in October, it’s tough to tell what impact this may or may not have on development. O’Gallagher did solid work on Live 14‘s biggest gameplay additions last year in signature dribbling & team-specific defenses, but we’ve yet to hear of any additions to NBA Live 15 he may have worked on.
Rarely do you see employees jump to a competitor mid-cycle in the gaming industry, so it’s rather shocking news. We’ve reached out to confirm what O’Gallagher will be doing at 2K Sports, and we’ll update our article once we’ve had confirmation.

I was thinking pre-order NBA Live 15, but now I will look out for.

Certainly surprising news, but I would imagine that Scott has already put a lot of good work into NBA Live 15, and that he's not the only one putting good work into the game. In any event, best of luck to Scott.

What an odd move. They must have made an offer he couldn't pass up because he was the main guy from EA involving himself in the community and getting feedback from the fans. I really hope this doesn't destroy the dribbling system that EA was putting in place while Scott was there.
So, the big three. Mike Wang, Scott OG, and Leftos, are going to bring not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7.....

What's more interesting is that he seemed very invested in Live especially since they game him a shot in the business but then he made the decision to switch sides and take his talents to Nor Cal

My eyes hurt too much right now to read but was it just about the money?

So what if it's about the money.
If he can still pursue his passion of making basketball videogames while getting paid
more for it in a different company then more power to him.
Also, the man has a family or future to think about.
It's not like 2K will be over the salary cap if they gave him more $$$ and will be unable to sign other talented devs as a result of being over the salary cap.

It's not like EA is an outstanding model of showing loyalty to employees either.

What if it was his entire plan all along? Get in the door at EA as a rookie, learn and implement ideas and develop skills, then join a successful team to win a championship.
Tue Jul 01, 2014 11:13 am
Then ScottOG, bedwardsroy19, Leftos, and Mike Wang need to take a paycut to have salary cap space in signing role developers to have a team that can compete for the championship.

Who need a team when you can have

The competing developers might as well pack it up and call it a day.

Leaving in the middle of a project and going to the competition isn't cool. It would be fine if he did it afterwards but right in the middle of it doesn't send a very good message. I wonder if EA got a chance to match their salary.

Maybe Peter Moore wanted Live15 to go in a different direction again and to prevent that Scott O'Gallagher had to duel Moore to a game of 21.
OG lost so he had to hear the ol' EA Sports saying...

I think there might be a very bad thing that happened in the development of Live 15 that would cause him to leave. You can't blame him if that's the case.

Bull shit. Meaning it's not true.

Ohh.. Do you think that GoodGameBro is biased towards 2K to create more hype or something?
Mon Jul 28, 2014 11:36 pm
I don't know about that. His description on twitter, at OS, and here still show him as an EA gameplay designer.
Tue Jul 29, 2014 12:59 am
His response (the gif) is ambiguous to be honest but until the claim that he is no longer working for EA is substantiated no one should really assume otherwise.
