it would be a welcome surprise if he can score in the post. i'm skeptical he can be creating his own shot in the nba altogether. as long as he's burying the 3pter and hitting shots off the pick and roll anywhere close to the rate he was doing it while at Creighton

what do you think they should do next if that happens?

I have high expectations on this McDermott kid, he's one of the rookies I look forward to. I thought he was undersold in the draft because of his lack of athleticism.

No idea, which is why I asked "What next?". Got any suggestions?

Trade Rose.
Mon Jun 30, 2014 12:08 am
Bring over Mirotic
See what FA is still available and don't overpay whoever that is
Mon Jun 30, 2014 1:11 am
Or... keep Boozer and try to lure LaMarcus Aldridge in 2015....
Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:50 am
Get LBJ, trade Rose for Lowry, the Bulls will instantly get to the Finals next season. Lowry/Butler/LBJ/Taj/Noah. *shudders*
Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:00 pm
I like how LBJ is a trade topic for every team this FA. And people are now not seeing Rose as the franchise player.

Like Nowitzki said "you have the keys to the city."
Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:19 pm
I like how Heat bandwagoners are watching every team this coming FA and they are now not seeing The Heat as their franchise....
Like Barkley said "the Heat are done..."
Mon Jun 30, 2014 4:15 pm
Where do you see that?

Everybody knows LeBron won't be leaving the Heat. A I stopped reading after "Barkley said".

More on McDermott. This time him versus NBA length and great college defense.
I think this kid's scoring instinct is amazing and could be put to use immediately. He's as big as Dunleavy and probably just as quick and strong so I don't think he'll have problem translating his college game to NBA as opposed to many doubts out there.
His competition is kinda stiff though for a rookie in a team that's expected to win a lot, not develop talent. Ronnie Brewer(?), Snell, and Dunleavy are his primary competitors. Butler will get his touches and minutes regardless, so will Augustin(6th man, ball handler) and Rose. Perhaps McDermott can fill in as a Taj's back up when needed for a small ball. I think he can do 13-21 minutes in his rookie season depending how much Tom Thib is willing to experiment with a rookie.

Thibs will play rookies as long as they're consistent... he gave Snell some alright minutes (even drawn some ISO plays for him in some games) in those earlier games after they traded Deng... it's just that Snell is too inconsistent so he re-inserted Butler at SG...

He's going to have to play. Bulls need his perimeter shooting. Garpax didn't trade up and take on Randolphs contact only to sit him.
In recent nba history, off the top of my head, only paul pierce comes to mind as a sf with just average athleticism that was a legit scorer.
We'll see how he fares in summer league

AMMO!
Let's hope this kid doesn't turn out to be the next Adam Morrison...

lol I was thinking the same thing with the AmMo comparison.
Melo visits Chicago...

...reminds me of when Duncan and McGrady visited Chicago during free agency in their prime.

And we all know how that went.

Of course, this time they have a far better team and coach to sell free agents on, so I'd like to think that their chances are at least a little better.

If Carmelo cares more about winning than getting a max deal, Chicago is the best fit. With a healthy Rose, Noah & Anthony, the Bulls are in the ECF next season.

Rose did a private workout for melo so says the local media. That's a big surprise as rose has held strong on his stance of not recruiting players.
Looks like the bulls are going all out. Gone are the days of benny the bull and the luvabulls waiting for the free agents at the airport
Thu Jul 03, 2014 2:59 am
It really is surprising. Just yesterday, I read that Rose isn't recruiting and prefers Love over Melo.

It could be just a private workout to assess himself for the FIBA world championships this August and not a recruiting workout.

Rose will have another acl tear
Thu Jul 03, 2014 9:55 am
Good to see them going all out. I won't believe that anything's a done deal until, you know, it's a done deal, but at least it seems that they made a strong pitch.

KC Johnson reported Rose spoke to Melo for 20 minutes
Like Gibson's, Rose's brief involvement carried significance given his reluctance to recruit players. This dislike stems from his quiet personality and an old-school mentality that current teammates never should be undermined.
Sources told the Tribune last week that Rose's camp had made clear to Anthony's camp that Rose would welcome an Anthony signing. Still, his speaking to Anthony for roughly 20 minutes inside the Bulls' locker room represented a departure for someone not comfortable in that role.

His position is understandable, but it's good to hear that he made the effort. Seems they've done the best that they can do; now we wait and see if it comes to fruition.
