Official Patch . . . Again (Sorry)

After learning that the jerky movement of the game on my (reasonably) high-end computer/vid card could be remedied by downloading the official patch, I did so, received the thumbs-up, rebooted--to be greeted by jerky movement as before.

Any suggestions on dealing with this immensely annoying problem appreciated.
