On the bright side if anything it's a
medial meniscus tear unlike Westbrook's
lateral tear.
http://deadspin.com/how-will-a-meniscus ... -482818589 Human knees have two menisci, a medial and a lateral, one on either side of the knee. Injuries to the lateral (outside) meniscus are less common, and generally more serious (one study estimated they occur about one-third as often as a medial tear). The meniscus cartilage handles shock absorption, load distribution, and joint stabilization.
Though the severity of Rose's tear isn't known...
The typical recovery time for an NBA player with a lateral meniscus tear is four to six weeks, though some take as much as several months. It's not an especially career-threatening injury
A full repair of the meniscus would likely mean a three-month recovery for Westbrook.
And there's already a player to compare upon who had both injuries (ACL, meniscus tear) similar to Rose...
It's more common to tear both the meniscus and ACL at the same time, like Iman Shumpert did last year.
I suggest Rose consult the greatest sports philosopher of our time SKIP BAYLESS for advice.
Skip Bayless @RealSkipBayless
For what it's worth, I had meniscus surgery on both knees. Running 1 wk later 1st time, 2 wks 2nd. Bet Westbrook misses no more than next rd
If we're going to be superstitious about it Rose's career won't ever be the same because of the injury happening in Portland.
Sam Bowie got injured in Portland.
Greg Oden got injured in Portland.
Derrick Rose got injured in Portland.
