slow framerate with GeForce 4 Ti 4200!!!

Postby Coldkevin on Mon Dec 30, 2002 12:45 am

I have e Pentium 4 1500@1635Mhz, 512 MB SDRAM, a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128 DDR and s*+?t.....i can't play at the max details....i obtain only 12-18 fps!

i think my PC isn't so slow, it's a good system, other EA games like madden 2k3, fifa 2k3 and nhl 2k3 run smooth at highest details but nba live 2003 not at all!

If you're using a USB device (mouse, gamepad, etc.) and Win98/ME then install the official EA patch.

The programming of this game is just HORRIBLE. I also have Geforce4 Ti4200, an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ and 384MB DDR ram, and I get shit framerates also. This game uses a lot of pixel shaders, and NVIDIA isnt too great with pixel shader, but all my ATI cards run this game without a hitch. Smooth as butter w/ a Radeon 8500. Sorry to say, but I don't think there will be a way to make your computer play the max details on ANY resolution, unless you get a new card. I have even heard of a Geforce4 Ti4600 having problems with this game, but not once have I seen someone with a Radeon 8500, 9500, or 9700 complain.

You didn't buy a useless card...in fact you have a very good card. Run any other game and watch how nice it will perform, too bad NBA Live is just a dumb port and is programmed like shit. You will not get the game running smooth w/out a Radeon 8500 and up...or a Ti4600 ...I have never seen a constant 60fps w/out those cards. Run MOH:AA...or even Madden and wtach how nice those will run, but NBA Live will not no matter what you do. Sorry to tell you but your not gonna get a smooth game w/ that card, and this game.

fixing slow rate

Postby jaredsox on Mon Dec 30, 2002 6:35 pm

Hi Kevin,
I have the same problem. It happens to me when I have used other applications or if my computer has been on for awhile. All I do is click start-log off and yes...no problems. In short, a quick restart. Let me know if it helps you.
Take care,
Jay

Hi everybody & tnx for your replies........ :D

Definitely...the most frustrating thing is.....that i can play all ea sports game smoothly except this damn nba 2k3!

and when i say all ea sports games i say all of that: madden, nhl, tiger woods, fifa, even F1 2002!

i bought a new graphic card just to play nba 2k3(my favourite game) at the highest details, but nothing to do.

it's true BBoy, other games are awesome and i just love to see them running so well, but nba is the only game that i like to play even for entire days!!

it's strange....EA hasn't build nba with the same graphic engine of others sports titles? :?:

Hey EA...DID YOU HEAR ME?!! :!:

the patch from easports page doesn't pops up a new window. click the link below and "CHECK FOR PATCH" then wait till the image changes to "DOWNLOAD PATCH" when its finshed, the image will automatically change to "FINISH", just minimize it, and when its finish you can close it

quick question coldkevin, are you using the latest detonator drivers from nvidia's website, 41.09? i wasn't able to play at max settings until i got those drivers and these are my specs:

amd athlon 1700+
512 mb ddr pc 2100 ram
asus geforce 2 gts 32 mb
soundblaster 5.1 x-gamer
2 ibm 40 gb hard drives
asus a7v266-e motherboard (raid is not enabled)
windows xp pro
thrustmaster firestorm dual power 2 (new version) gamepad - using most updated drivers, 2.4
also, did fresh install before installing game

hope this helps. btw, everything works perfectly and smoothly - considering, i only upgrade my pc for this game (and potentially any other b-ball games that may come out for pc) and make sure that things run quickly and smootly, esp. pertaining to gameplay and graphics.

i am not planning to d/l the patch b/c i'm not experiencing any problems that have been suggested. i'm also not having problems with my usb device, the thrustmaster.

i use a usb mouse an no problem b4 patch.

the reason i downloaded the patch was that i thought it would fix the fast gameplay, but it didn't oh well, wasted 10 seconds.

Did you FULL INSTALL?

i tried last 3 versions of detonator....i even installed detonator 42.01 before nvidia official site release them.....i really tried EVERYTHING!

kobryant.....i have ADSL..... :?

BTW, i think it's a prob with java script.....i tried to set it off but nothing to do, than i tried to set it on but nothing again.....i'm just unlucky or what?! :(

i said it's java because the last part of the link is:

http://www.ea.com/easports/home/home.JSP

that stainds for JAVA SCRIPT.

i can join other ea sites like fifa that don't have this final part....i'm just supposing....

Looks like you've ruled out everything except your operating system. Im running the game with a GeForce2MX card on Windows 2000 and it runs pretty good. If you're not too attached to WinXP, you might want to try switching to 2000.
Hmm...other than that I dunno man...EA should really get their act together..

Hmm... Here's my specs.

Pentium 3 866 mhz
384 MB RAM
GeForce2 MX 400 32 MB
Bought this in the middle of 2001.

I can play the game with... umm... max settings on everything but lighting (which is one setting before max) and resolution (1024x768x32, I believe).

Have you tried to disconnect the USB devices and then run the game? Just for the sake of experiment. If without USB it still remains slow - then the EA "patch" will not help, imho. I had Microsoft USB wireless infra mouse (total disappointment) and the NBA2003 (civ3 as well, for that matter) was slow and choppy. I had to bring back my good ol' PS/2 mouse and now everything's ok.
