Re: Wizards [57-17] - Cavs put up good fight in Washington

Postby Phil89 on Tue Jun 25, 2013 2:45 pm

I think I've improved my gameplay since that 23 game losing streak. Judging by that Cavs game all-star difficulty is about my level. The odds of winning the game are probably 45-55 in the CPU's favour, which I think keeps it interesting knowing that you can lose any game.

I tried something different in this game by having DeRozan come off the bench and had Earl Clark starting. It was good to have someone to help Vasquez with the scoring in the second unit, but it may have cost me the win in this game. Maybe I'll have to look at drafting a bench scorer with my lottery pick.

Maybe I should have put Noel onto Melo after he kept knocking down shots in the second half. DeRozan just wasn't strong enough to stop him at all.

Very close, cool games. I guess it was a good idea to up the difficulty. No blowouts, tough games that you might win when you find out how to beat the CPU best.

I agree. I like how every game since the change has been so close. Neither team in any of the games has led by more than 5-6 points at any time.

All-Star difficulty does get me swearing a lot more during games though, out of frustration. Stupid refs

Wizards fill out roster ahead of the playoffs

Image

Washington today announced several roster changes, including the signing of sharpshooter Kyle Korver, big man Kosta Koufos and veteran point guard Mike Bibby. DeAndre Liggins and Ronnie Turiaf have also been waived by the Wizards. These moves come less than a week before the playoffs begin and are meant to give them the right balance and depth to compete long into the post-season.

Korver provides the Wizards with some instant scoring off the bench and another threat from the perimeter. He had been without a team since being released by the Hawks at the end of last season. Another former Atlanta player joining Korver in Washington is Mike Bibby. His role will likely be lesser though as he will just be an injury back-up for John Wall and Greivis Vasquez. Seven footer Kosta Koufos gives the Wizards another big body on their bench which will help them compete against the likes of Philadelphia, Brooklyn and New York. Koufos may also be seen as a long-term replacement for Chris Andersen, after the veteran announced his decision earlier this week to retire at the end of the season. All three players signed one year deals for the veteran minimum salary.

The unlucky players waived in order to make room for the new arrivals were veteran Ronny Turiaf and former Kentucky guard DeAndre Liggins. In truth though neither had seen any real game time this season and at least now they have the opportunity to sign with new teams in the hope of getting regular playing time.

One of the quirky results of these moves is the alliteration of five players' names on their roster. There is Nerlens Noel, Bradley Beal, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Korver and Kosta Koufos.

DeMarcus Cousins - Nerlens Noel - DeMar DeRozan - Bradley Beal - John Wall

Bench
John Salmons - Earl Clark - Kosta Koufos - Kyle Korver - Chris Andersen - Kris Humphries - Greivis Vasquez

For some reason there have been guys like Korver, Ronnie Brewer, Corey Brewer, Lance Stephenson and others in the free agent pool.

I like Korver. He played a part in my last championship with my Thunder team. Hope he does as well here. :)

I wonder if he will want a 5yr/$95m contract like Rose got?

Fun facts:

The last six MVP awards have been won by former number one picks (LeBron>LeBron>Rose>LeBron>LeBron>Wall)

Wall is the first player from the franchise to win the MVP since Wes Unseld in 1969, when the team was in Baltimore.

I agree. Miami finishing with the third seed and Westbrook being the main guy in OKC on this game certainly helped Wall stand out more for the judges.

Hmm, looks like the Hawks have a lot of depth inside with Pekovic and Blair. Hopefully Cuz will hold his own in the pressure of the playoffs.
You're probably gonna have to face Miami straight away in the 2nd round if you beat Atlanta.

Wall highlights

Beal picked up his 5th foul midway through the third quarter. He still did well, but could have done more. Devin Harris fouled out with 5:45 left in the fourth.

It felt like I was cruising to any easy win at half time, but the second half was very different and I couldn't get any stops late on.
