Any Defensive tips???

Postby Jarus on Sat Oct 13, 2012 10:39 am

im so frustrated by the fact that 99% of the time when i play online, my opponent just abuses me in the paint..
90% of his points are from the paint and it seems like i cant stop this mayhem inside... what should i do?

another thing is stealing and blocking.. it seems like im going against that good players so they reach in 100 times per possesion and i cant go through them because they steal the ball, and even when i try to perform an unstoppable layup they seem to block it..

unless im competing against noob rookies, my opponents just running a mock inside...

PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE DEFENSIVE TIPS AND SECRETS YOUVE GOT , defense is crazy tough for me (even in real life  ) , whys that?

thank you very much

I actually find that my opponents kill me from 3 point range. Defense is for sure much more challenging this year now that it is so easy to drive but my suggestion would be to make sure you always have your hands up on defense. That seems to work better for me then attempting to block every shot. As far as the ball always getting stolen, I really haven't had that problem. I would just keep working on mastering the dribble controls and try not to abuse the spin move too much.

Also, if you want to avoid layups getting blocked, try faking. I've found that faking, especially on fast breaks, is a really easy way to make sure your shot doesn't get blocked.

Also, don't abuse the turbo button because you will get tired and just let your opponent blow by you.

Use the d-pad on defense to select lock down paint. Pause the game and set your defense for hedging screens and double on drives or in the post. Sag off and part the passing lane to whoever is in the paint and use hands up defense to passes. If it doesn't work. Set a zone defense and cherry pick with a 3 point shooter.

I started out loving this game. But I'm beginning to hate it the more I realize that it's impossible to keep your man in front of you. That bouncing animation sucked so much as in 2k12, but the opposite (slicing right through me like butter) is not better in 2k13.

Try adjusting sliders for contact layups and such. I havent played around with it long enough but you should experiment to see what you like.

My Defensive tips

Do Not Jump/Block every shot in the paint.
Combo of L2/Lstick into the offensive player always instead of block attempt(if they have you beat or your out of position)
Combo of L2/Rstick (left or right) Before using Pressure Defense, try this combo. This will force offensive player to either left or right.
Only use Pressure Defense if you have to. Pressure defense(L2) will leave you in the dust on players with good handles/slashers
Remember L2 aka Pressure Defense is auto defend.
Do not go for every weak side block, you will most likely push your teammate into the offensive player and cause a foul.
Poor shooters-give them space and watch the passing lane.
Good Shooters/Scorers-Play tight but always try (L2+Rstick left/right) into other teammates for a little help defense.
Poor Handles-Pressure tight
Good Handles-Pressure tight but try to keep your Lstick neutral.
Double team star players and control your rotations. Force someone else besides stars to beat you.
Dont fall for the first move with layup animations. Be patient, might not always see a block but timing your jumps cause low % shots.

This my not all apply but some of the things that should help.

thanks you guys, I really took your advices into considerations, but the reaching hobby and paint abusing is still unstoppable..

im trying to defend the post (on ball or off ball) but somehow everyone finds the angle to put it in. (well against newbie's i do a good job at that area).

but the reaching thing is just so annoying  :x I cant pass to nobody and cant dribble and do anything because they reach all the time. I sometimes manage to get by the defender who reaches , but then the centers block me :x

and im actually pretty good at this game, im improving , but my D is still average,

my record is 22-16 (8 of the losses or technical losses because of networking problems :x )

My best advice is to just stop playing online. Or find a league/online associaiton/group that dont play like scrubs.

I will never understand why people play randoms with sports games. Your most likely going to find some type of cheeser.

As far as I know it is impossible to block dunks. There is no collision animation at all, no foul called, pressing Y just makes you get bumped to the side as the dunker flies past you as if you're not even there.
