November 2013 In Review

Luol Deng has quickly won over the Bobcats faithful, despite them getting blown out in the home opener.

The Bobcats opened up the season impressively with an upset win on the road vs. Da'Vonte Hughes and the Utah Jazz. They followed that up with a humbling loss at home against the veteran Boston Celtics. They recovered well, winning five of their next six and finishing the first month of the season with a respectable 8-5 record, good for fourth place in the East.

Hornets trade Carl Landry to Lakers for Steve Blake, Elias Harris
This is an interesting trade as Landry had signed a 5 year extension with the team a few months ago, and in classic Laker fashion, they turn an expiring and middling prospect into essentially a second MLE in Landry.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this team can make the playoffs, though if they do, I don't want them to get stomped in the first round, then become a treadmill team.

Recaps have been coming in a little too fast because I had a few days off recently and got sucked into this association. I think simming most regular season games and only playing the ones I feel like and key games to get through regular seasons pretty fast might be how I do it from now on. Sim engine is pretty good (in my opinion) and a big part of Association is managing the team, so I stick with 82 game seasons. Long story short I have a lot of recaps backlogged.

After rough start to month, Bobcats turn it around with 6 game winning streak. Andrea Bargnani had the best game of his career by far in a 147-101 rout of Brooklyn, scoring 50 points (with 7 rebounds and 4 blocks) on 18-21 from the field. Unfortunately, the team was dealt a huge blow when they lost starting Center Omer Asik for the season. There were also rumors of the Spurs shopping Ginobili to the Bobcats for Wilson Chandler and another player, but Charlotte was not interested.

Luol Deng signed to 4 year, $35M extension (starts at $8.16M; fourth year player option)
Impressed by his play in the first couple months of his tenure, and wanting to keep him as the starting small forward for years to come, the Bobcats agreed to an extension with Deng. The deal is for four years and worth $35 million in total, but it will start at just over 8 million a year, saving Charlotte some more cap room for this upcoming off-season.

Bobcats add veteran shooters

Veteran shooters Jamal Crawford and Rashard Lewis were signed to one year contracts. Crawford's was worth approximately $1.4 million, while Lewis's is worth $1.2 million. Neither are expected to play too many minutes.

Pacers trade Darren Collison to Jazz for Anthony Randolph

The Pacers' season was off to a decent start, but the team's loss of David West in free agency left a glaring hole at the PF position that they hope they have solved with reigning sixth man of the year Anthony Randolph. To acquire him though, they had to trade their best point guard in Collison. To make up for it, franchise mainstay Danny Granger was dealt to Detroit for Pistons' combo guard Rodney Stuckey. The moves are risky, but Indiana hopes to get younger and better defensively with the deal. Utah gets a starting point guard, the Detroit gets a borderline all-star.

Martti Must to San Antonio in Tony Parker trade

Bucks trade Must, Mbah a Moute to SA for Tony Parker, 2014 1st rounder

With the Spurs headed to the lottery, they decided it was time to finally deal Tony Parker. They did so by packaging him with their upcoming first round draft pick for the Bucks' promising second-year PF Martti Must, and defensive specialist Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. San Antonio kickstarts rebuilding in a big way, cutting salary and acquiring a better prospect at the 4 than anyone they would have been projected to draft. Milwaukee seems to be the winner talent-wise, but though they did trade Monta Ellis (read below), Brandon Jennings coming off the bench behind an all-star PG does not seem like a great idea.

Pistons trade Evan Turner, '15 second rounder to Milwaukee for Monta Ellis
Milwaukee acquires young defensive specialist Evan Turner and a future second rounder in exchange for high-scoring 2 guard Monta Ellis. Ellis was acquired a couple seasons ago for Andrew Bogut, but he has not done much for the perennially mediocre Bucks. Milwaukee will hope Tony Parker and Evan Turner is the infusion of talent needed to get this team back in the playoffs. Detroit replaces Rodney Stuckey and gets the better end of this deal, talent wise.

Mavericks Trade Shawn Marion to Indiana for Tyler Hansbrough, '14 second rounder
Indiana continues to add pieces as it trades Hansbrough, who hasn't improved since his rookie year, and their upcoming second round draft pick to Dallas for former all-star Shawn Marion. Marion is expected, with Paul George, to fill the void left by Granger at the 3.

To stop teams from going completely insane with trades, I only keep CPU trades on for about a week out of each month before February. Having said that, I think it's cool that they seem to have a strategy (re-tooling after losing David West in free agency)

Charlotte had a 7-8 record in January, but own the tiebreakers in the tight race for 5th place. The team's continued improvement over last year can be chalked up to the strong swingman play, where the much-improved Bradley Beal, solid Luol Deng and sixth man of the year candidate Wilson Chandler have been making big contributions. Bargnani has seen his raw numbers fall, but he still leads the team in scoring at 22 per.

After seven games with the team, forward Rashard Lewis was waived.

Spurs trade DeJuan Blair, James Anderson to Pacers for George Hill, Hakan Kerimoglu



The Spurs have re-acquired point guard George Hill from the Pacers for big man DeJuan Blair and swingman James Anderson. San Antonio replaces Tony Parker with a solid starter, and it cost them a pair of guys who were out of the rotation. Kerimoglu is expected to be waived. The Pacers shore up their frontcourt rotation with Blair and hope to get something out of James Anderson. However, they lose their starting point guard, and will have to rely on second year guard Scott Machado, and recent signing Patrick Mills to run the point.
