You need some pretty darn good collision detection if you're to have full cloth effects (movement, etc, like in 2K) and the jersey be close enough to the player's body. I guess 2K has gone one way, and EA has gone another. But Michaelvlutz49's reverse engineering has proved that 2K -can- improve the jersey's distance from the player's bodies, but just hasn't done so. If a modder can do it, they can also do it, and do it better.
So I'm guessing that it's just neither company is putting the required effort so far in that field.
