That team went 30-52, I think they can do a little better than that. ;)

Well, I'm saying they'll probably not be in the top end of the seeding, but make a push after those two return. I'm sure they won't do that bad either...

Ah, fair enough.

You guys are both goofy. do you think management just looks at the cap situation year to year? you can still venture a guess. afterall all this postseason blabber is guessing. $63.394million for Rose, Hamilton, Deng, Boozer, Noah, Gibson and Butler. $857k for the 1st round draft pick (assuming it is kept). Possibly $5mil for Asik. Gibson could be $6mil per year to resign. start guessing.

benji wrote:I think Korver has to be kept because he's the only bomber on the team currently

You can't pay $5mil to a 42% 3pt shooter( his % since he's been with the Bulls). And that # is going to go down with no one on the court to create an open shot for him. You can find something comparable to that in free agency and cheaper. I'd rather pay someone who brings more to the table like delonte west then korver.

When Gibson's contract starts Hamilton's is done and Boozer's is either done by amnesty or within a year.

There are only 14 career 40+% shooters in the entire NBA. About 80% of them are untouchable.

I'd rather pay Brandon Rush. or cheaper options like Michael Redd, Alonzo Gee, Azubuike, Carlos delfino

Jason Terry's a free agent. You guys should make a run at him. I also think Redd, Buike, Meeks, or Kapono could be good options.

I'm guessing Terry will want more than the Bulls can offer him and will likely get it on a two or three year deal elsewhere. I think Redd would be a more feasible choice for a season or two; glancing at his career shooting percentages they're actually lower than I thought they would be, but still not a bad option.

Do you think it would be wise to resign both Asik and Gibson? This is assuming Asik no more then $5mil and Gibson gets $6-8. Given the roster, could any of the 2 be a long term solution at pf or c?

For how long? But my assumption is it's going to be about 4 to 5 years contracts for both.

I think it's a go on Gibson but not too sure about Asik. Players tend to get paid on potential and Gibson has shown enough. But not too sure about Asik. He's entering prime(age wise) but his numbers haven't been impressive to me. If Rose comes back healthy, those money could be used on ring chasing veterans.

At that price I'd do it, but I'd preferably stick with a two or three year deal for Asik. I have more confidence in giving Gibson a four year deal, being more developed and dependable.

If it did have to be one or the other though, Gibson. Noah's the long term solution in the middle.

Gibson is slowly getting better, he can attack and shoot well, and plays great D too. Asik though needs to develop an offensive side before I could see him being a starter at C.

If you're punting on this season and this team then don't even sign Asik. Not worth it.

And don't extend Gibson under any circumstances, wait to match.

Doc: Derrick Rose 'ahead of schedule'

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose is "ahead of schedule" in the rehabilitation process on his torn left ACL, according to Dr. Brian Cole, who performed surgery on the former MVP last month.

Cole also brushed aside speculation that Rose has had a setback in the process.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," Cole said. "He's ahead of schedule. [The rehab] is a way to keep things fresh for Derrick, to help give him some variety."

Certainly good to hear. (Y)

I expect it's still going to take more than the offseason and I doubt they'll be in a rush to get him back early, which is the smart approach after all. Still, it's encouraging to read anything that mentions him being ahead of schedule, recovering well and standing a very good chance of being just as explosive as he was before the injury, as most reports have alluded to following his surgery.

Per the NBA rumor mill, the Chicago Bulls are entertaining giving up Luol Deng to get into the NBA draft lottery. According to sources, Golden State hasn’t talked with Chicago about Deng yet. But Deng is on the Warriors’ short list of veteran small forwards they’d be interested in.

I'm not sure how to feel about that. I like Deng but he has hit his ceiling and I don't think he's cut out to be a dependable second option behind Rose. If improving the team means moving him, I think they do have to pull the trigger. However, I'd much rather he be traded for someone with a proven track record in the league, the Draft is such a huge gamble and visions of Brand for Chandler dance in my head.

It's not exactly the same scenario of course, this time the Bulls do have a roster that's deeper than the key player being traded for a rookie and there are no high schoolers in the Draft anymore, but I'm still a bit leery. Again, I think trading for someone more established would be the better scenario. I'm assuming the Bulls would also have to take on a bad contract from the Warriors to make the deal happen.

ACL doesn't affect explosiveness that much, it's more for stability of the knee. Rose can still retain his explosiveness but for multiple change of directions (like this with Dirk, Rondon't, smh no respect, or simply put crossovers  ) won't be the same as before. He can still be explosive, just in one direction.
Reason for the loss of explosiveness is because of lack of proper muscle conditioning during rehab which weakens the leg muscles.

Well this is interesting. Here I stand corrected (I assumed the same). Thanks for that info!

Bullshit move to trade Deng if you ask me. I know he's not gonna average 20+ppg, but he is their best defender and while they will need scoring with Rose being out, giving other teams points by trading away Deng for a rookie, which is a gamble like Andrew said, is a poor move. On top of that he is an all star. With worthy point guards in Watson and Lucas, hey should sign a scorer shooting guard like JR Smith or Jamal Crawford in the free agency instead, assuming they have MLE.

I also think he showed promised at the start of the season, I already said before but Deng actually was attacking and finishing before he messed up his wrist. I only trade him if he's healthy and still not giving the results you want.

Indeed. I suppose when it comes down to it, "effective" is really the term I'm looking for here.

Fair call. Even when he's been healthy in the past though, it's been questionable as to whether he can be a dependable second option. Again, I like Deng and he's far from terrible so you cerainly don't just give him away; however, if he's the key to making a trade that will bring in a better second fiddle, they've got to pull the trigger. As for who that player might be, I'll admit I have no feasible suggestions to throw out at this time. I don't feel that a mid to low lottery pick is the answer, though if it happens and ultimately pans out I'll gladly eat my words.

I would pull the trigger for a top 5 or at least top 10(+a player) draft pick ,which would give the Bulls the opportunity to land a big talent, who could be a better 2nd gun than Deng is. If trading Deng means the Bulls are going to have a shot in getting Beal,Barnes or Kidd-Gilchrist ,I would do that trade in a heartbeat. With Rose, they could form a big duo for the next decade.

I'd like to see Deng staying in Chicago. You can't measure his importance just by his ppg average. He reminds me a bit of Andre Iguodala, who had a big part in this year's Sixers success.
Nevertheless the Bulls need at least one solid scorer as a 2nd or 3rd option, depending how good/ bad Boozer plays (I liked what I saw from him during the Playoffs) and depending on when/ how Rose returns.

Do you think Deng can be that player, though? Even when he's been healthy in the past, he's been a bit too passive when the Bulls have needed someone to step up and make some shots. That's not to say he's never made timely baskets and put up points when they needed him to, but I'm not sure it's really in his game or nature to be the scoring punch they consistently need out of a second option.
