1st/3rd quarter CTD after commercial (3 possible solutions)

Has anyone found a valid solution to this seemingly random crash? It infuriates me to no end when after a good quarter (or even worse 3 12 minute quarters) the game just crashes to the desktop. I've tried updating my graphics drivers, trying older ones, audio drivers, chipset drivers, so that's not it. I've tried closing background applications. That's not it. I've tried not hitting the A button and letting the ad play to its end. That's not it.

Any legitimate, valid solutions to this issue?

UPDATE: 3 Possible Solutions
We've been researching this issue and two guys here, TGZ and BobcatsThunderBulls have come up with 2 different solutions that they say work for them. You've got nothing to lose by trying either one of them and telling us your results, whether you still crashed or whether one of the solutions fixed your problem.

With both solutions it's been reported that it's best NOT to try to skip the commercial, or just press A near the end, when the logos and records of the teams show up. Repeatedly pressing A as the commercial starts to skip it as soon as possible increases the chances of your game crashing.

Solution #1 (over 35 games straight without a crash for me): Run MemAlloc before running NBA 2K12. What this does is allocate 570MB of RAM, which according to TGZ, has let him play over 15 games straight without a crash. Remember to close MemAlloc after closing NBA 2K12 by pressing any key, so that those 570MB are again free for your computer to use. Note that you can run MemAlloc with any numeric argument if you want to change the size of RAM allocated (for example, [memalloc.exe 600] will tell the tool to allocate 600MB instead of 570).

Solution #2: Always run NBA 2K12 in High priority. To do that, press Ctrl-Alt-Del while in the game, go to Processes, right-click on nba2k12.exe, click on Set Priority, and then High. According to BobcatsThunderBulls' testing, this seems to fix the crashes. Remember that you have to do this every time you run the game.

Both solutions sound silly, I know, and even the users who offered them think so, but you've got nothing to lose by trying. Please tell us if either one worked for you.

This is my problem also. Never find any solution. What I did is just save the game and exit during 1 minute left of the 1st and 3rd quarter. So that when the crashes occurs, I can load the save game and resume the game.

Yeah, and that results in losing all box scores so far in Association. Not a solution for me.

it could be something 2k patched, but I dont know. I've been lucky enough to not encounter it.

What roster are you using for the association? Official or community made?......I'm starting to wonder if community made rosters are causing issues this year.

Community made roster. It's so random that I wouldn't point to rosters. If it was a roster issue wouldn't it be a consistent issue? Could be wrong though.

one would think that would be true, but its just a trend that I've been noticing with all the issues people have had with kova's and alby's rosters

I sometimes randomly get crashes to desktop between quarters but I've never installed any roster updates except for official ones from 2k. The only patch I've used is the black arms patch from Jao.

Yeah, that kind of verifies that it's not due to the roster, but some random exception that's thrown and that the game doesn't handle properly.

They DID fix some soft hangs and crashes last year with the PC patch, so here's hoping they'll do so again this year.

I've only encountered it once after the third quarter in My Player (in a game started with the default roster), though it's left me feeling a little paranoid whenever I'm heading into the fourth quarter of a game where I'm performing well. Murphy's Law states that it's far more likely to crash under those circumstances.

Could be wrong, but I don't think I've ever encountered this on the first game I play each time I start NBA 2K12. Could this be something that only happens randomly during the next games you play without restarting NBA 2K12?

Has anyone else noticed this? Or have you had the game crash even during the first game you've played after starting 2K12?

If not, then we have a workaround. A lengthy one, granted, but beats the length it takes to play again 3 12-min quarters.

From memory, it wasn't on the first game I played. As I said though, it's only happened to me once so I obviously don't have much of a pattern to work from.

I'll start quitting 2K12 and starting it again before each game, see if that works.

might as well take a rest with 2k12 for a while til CHNxiaoju releases those shoe patch....in the meantime, play KOA !

i've got this issue, too, and i've had CTDs during my first games quite often. it's my impression that the frequency of CTDs drops when you don't skip the commerials by pressing a button. alas, it doesn't drop to zero.

i'm playing with the official roster without any other mods except some draf classes and pngs.

Look, I've heard it happens also on clean installations, so maybe it's something in Online Data that's causing it? I don't know really. I could be lucky, but using my strategy of restarting 2K12 before each game, I've played 4 straight without a CTD.

Then I got CPU wont pass ball out of bounds bug

7 straight games without a CTD. Here's what I did, although I have no idea if I'm just lucky or if something of the following helped.

1. Uninstalled everything NVidia. Drivers, HD Audio, PhysX, nView, everything.
2. Downloaded the most popular driver right now, 290.53. Let it install only the Graphics Drivers and PhysX, nothing else.
3. Downloaded the latest MSI Afterburner beta, forced a 60 FPS limit on NBA 2K12.
4. Exited and restarted 2K12 between games.

I could just be lucky, but I thought I'd mention it.

EDIT: Dammit. Game CTDed on me, but I think I know the reason. The internet connection dropped for a bit during the 1st quarter, I saw MSN and my e-mail client disconnecting in the 2nd monitor. I guess that the game doesn't handle that properly this year with all the Online Data and how it handles online and offline states, and that's why it crashes. I guess being constantly offline is a solution, but then you miss out on all the Online Data. Crap. I really hope this gets fixed in the patch.

EDIT 2: Or, it could be random. I have no idea. I'm just trying to find a pattern.

Rule out internet connection. No drops, game's servers were down the whole time, got through 4 games without a crash, and then got the damned 3rd quarter CTD on my 5th game.

It's annoying as crap to lose an hour's worth of progress and a good performance due to this.

EDIT: Oh screw this game. I don't know why I even bother. This has me annoyed to no end. I just lost 2 straight hours of gameplay because 2K12 crashed after the 3rd quarter two times consecutively. They have two guys on Twitter, and none of them bother to even give an excuse for not answering our questions. If this issue doesn't get fixed in the PC patch, I'm done with modding a game I can't even enjoy.

I have a similar problem that seems to have started when my game failed to update NBA Today.

It continues to "Fail" in the loading screen - and now when I try to start any MyPlayer or Quick Game it crashes to desktop.

Drills in MyPlayer work however...

any news for a fix?
