This video show Basketball Jesus from NBA Elite 11, for those who don't remember, then shows the teleporter/neighborhood of make believe bug in NBA2K12.

This happens if, via Rededit or another method, a player is edited to taller than the 7'6" allowed in the game. The taller the player, the more often this happens.

I'm not sure where I'm more disappointed. I spent over $30 for Rededit and now can't do it to do what I want - make a 7'8" center. Previous versions of 2K basketball didn't experience this bug with players who were edited to be taller than the native max height.

Note that the center disappears on the dunk. The game continues with one team missing a player and with an imaginary basketball. Sometimes the game crashes, but if not the only way to recover is to quit and restart.

The weird sound is not part of the bug. That's how FRAPS recorded the sound.

That certainly is weird. Technically speaking though it's not a bug, at least not in the sense the Bynum glitch was.

The issue in the NBA Elite 11 demo was a problem from the developer's end, whereas this comes about from tinkering with the game using third party software. The fact that the game doesn't support those kinds of changes isn't a bug, because it's something that was never meant to be done (at least from the developers point of view) and comes about from essentially hacking the game. I'd say that the limit has been put in place for a sensible reason, such as issues/limitations with the physics/animations or something along those lines.

It's certainly unfortunate that it's the case of course; for the sake of creativity, it'd be nice if the game offered the ability to create players that were at least slightly bigger or smaller than the maximum and minimum heights and weights, by default. Of course, this may be an issue with the first release of REDitor to support NBA 2K12 and may be resolved in future updates, avoiding this altogether.

This has been a problem with both 2k10 and 2k11 as well. I once made a 8'9'" player just for fun and had the same issue. You simply should not dunk, that's the only way to avoid that.
And like Andrew said, this is definitely not something the developers intended, otherwise you could choose an unrealistic player height in the regular character screen. You put a value into the game that is not supposed to be there, so it is very likely to cause bugs and crashes.

Actually, I think this is 2K's fault....to prevent cheaters.

2K11 had huge issues with crew mode and gigantic players, so it wouldnt surprise me if they purposely glitched the game if someone hacks their player higher than the in-game limits.....


...still, I don't see what this has to do with the Bynum glitch. That's like me blaming 2K, Vlad, and other tool creators for 2K11 Stadiums not being editable....

Have you tried subbing the player out or calling a timeout?

Never saw it in NBA 2K11 through 100's of games with a 7'10" center. Maybe that game had a higher threshold. But with 2K12 it has happened once with a 7'7" player (in post practice mode), and constantly (can't finish a game) with 7'10" and taller.

People don't remember that Elite had another serious glitch. It was very easy to get the CPU into a back court violation by taking a charge stance in front of a CPU ball handler near half court. NBA 2K12 solves it in a number of ways. One is a phantom blocking foul if you stop in front of the CPU PG (or ball handler) as he crosses the half court line. He runs back over the line, whistle, then a blocking violation is called without any contact.

The audio is from Fraps. I haven't been able to get it to record good audio from NBA 2K12. If it were better quality you would be able to hear the real audio weirdness once the center disappears. The audio level increases and decreases and the crowd noise constantly cuts out and restarts, like it does sometimes on fast breaks.

There's no way to sub in the missing player. Timeout doesn't fix it. Sometimes the game crashes completely. But the only fix is to quit the game and to restart a new game.

In regards to editing players in the free version of Redit, maybe I misread the feature table. It shows that the free version cannot edit association files, but that the free version can edit players. Can the free version edit players in associations?

At first I thought that his head was hitting the bottom of the backboard, but it isn't. It seems to happen only on dunks when the taller than 7'6" center is deep in the paint, under or behind the front of the rim.

As Jao mentioned, maybe it was done to stop the huge player glitch. But that kind of stopped itself. Even at 7'7" players sometimes jump over the rebound, so that their hands are so high they miss the ball. Also, overly tall players miss a lot of layups. At a certain height the height is a negative rather than a positive.

Yes, i fully agree with Jao, actually. This was made to prevent people from creating too big players. I'm also disappointed, they set the limit to just 7,6, not 7,8 or 7,10. But this is obviously not a REDitor related issue. Like you can make a team of only 4 players with the tool, and the game will crash in an attempt to load a match with this team participating. Again, it'll be the game limitation, not a bug, caused by REDitor.

REDit cannot edit association files. Shadowgrin epic fail. He strutted at the 5 yard line only to have the ball stripped and run the other way for a TD. He shouted "got ya!" as he went in for a dunk only to have the ball blocked. He began a HR trot half way down the first base line only to have the ball bounce off the wall, and the fielder throw him out at 2B. Not sure how to express it in terms of soccer. Maybe he headed the ball in for the game winning goal only to find he had knocked it into his own goal.

As for REDit meeting expectations, it does. So far with the center at 7'7" there hasn't been a problem. Maybe the glitch will happen, but it's not so often that the game is unplayable with a 7'7" center. So, thanks to REDit there is still the option of a center above 7'6". It's a good program.

If it was intentional, 2K might rethink the situation. 7'7", at least, is absolutely realistic as there were centers that tall. 8' isn't way out of range of reality, and at that height centers (it was like this in NBA Live games and it's like this in 2K12) have a harder time rebounding because their hands are above the ball when it comes off the rim. It's a little easier for blocking shots, but really not much.

I'm not the one who made a thread whining about how 2K12 has a bug and proclaiming it to be a game destroying glitch like NBA Elite's Bynum Jesus only to realize that it's an anti-hack for My Player and was annoyed that he wasted $30 for third party software because he can't edit what he wanted to do and was asking for a refund.

Of course technically that bug didn't really destroy NBA Elite but it was the bug that started the negative perception about the game which caused it to be cancelled or 'destroyed'.

There was another horrible bug. If you stood near half court and pressed the take charge button just as the ball carrier crossed into the front court, it was an almost guaranteed over and back.

The 2K devs seemed to have recognized a similar issue in 2K12. There is a phantom blocking foul if you do that in 2K12. Press the take charge button, or attempt a steal, as the ball carrier crosses into the front court. Sometimes he just runs around you. But sometimes he jumps back into the back court without even touching you. Most of the time when that happens there's a blocking foul even though there was no contact.

That kind of call happens everywhere and isn't limited to the boundaries. I reach in, knock the ball from the dribbler, and instead of a kick ball call when he kicks it, they call a reach in foul. I think it is a result of their fouls being based on percentages and ratings rather than what is actually happening on the court. I think this is the only game where I have gotten a charging call in my favor after being behind the ball handler.
