Five Games, One Island

The scenario should be obvious but we'll play with it a bit.

The first, you're allowed five games, from whenever, in any state and that's it. You're stuck on an island but you can play these five games no matter what they require. INCLUDING MULTIPLAYER. (But only what they say have now. So no fully reviving games that deserve it like The Ship.)

What do you pick?

Alright, second, what if we take away the internet and thus multiplayer, do you adjust your picks? What is your five now? (For this, "online" is allowed. I.E. Guild Wars could exist without the servers with some changes, so you could play it single player forever.)

And to be fair, in the latter we'll let you fully patch the game before you're cast off.

Five games.
One island.

How do you decide?

  1. NBA 2K12 - well, as long as I could still mod it
  2. Rock Band 3 - DUH, I would require an endless amount of M$ points though
  3. Battlefield 3 - shooting fix
  4. GTA IV - better multiplayer than SR, YEA I SAID IT
  5. Minecraft - a game about being deserted...while deserted? Online fun too.

Then for offline only

  1. Sims 3 - for the social needs of every stranded person
  2. College Hoops 2k8 - basketball crack
  3. NBA 2k8 - for the exported draft classes of the above crack
  4. Flatout 1 - racing fix
  5. Little Big Planet 2 - ability to make my own shitty games, and recreate peggle....PEGGLE
Opinions are my own.

I'll bring games mostly on replay value and different genres to mix it up and avoid boredom.

Team Fortress 2
Chrono Trigger
Gran Turismo (any of it except 4)
Marvel vs Capcom 3 (I would had put Tekken but it got retarded)
Starcraft (either the 1st or 2nd, pwning Koreans awww yeah)

Chrono Trigger
Gran Turismo
Football Manager 12 (now that there's more free time to build and guide your club!)
The Sims 3* (will probably help me to prevent going crazy stuck on an island)
Skyrim or Minecraft* (by day I build/explore, by night I build/explore again)

*beaten by Jao's post which I didn't see. curses

Huh, while making my choices I noticed that I'm not that much into multiplayer RPGs.

I had the tab open as I was thinking and typing my choices.

Also removed fighting game from the no multiplayer list, replaced it with something like crack.

Civilization. I only played the first one, but if I found one of the sequels to be better, I would choose one of them.
Deus ex original.
Oblivion. First rpg I really enjoyed. I might end up with skyrim just because it balances better.
Nba 2k8. Changing sliders and tendencies had a major effect on the game play style.
Battlefield 3. Havent played it, but I'm sure it is just as good and even better than bf 2.

offline games:
1. Super Mario Bros. 3 - 1 of the few games I could play over and over and honestly not get sick of
2. Civiliation 3- Thanks for mentioning this PDub, #3 is probably my favorite of the series. It's a great time waster.
3. NBA Live 98/2000- for my basketball fix. besides, you're on an island and don't know all the new players right?
4. Gran Turismo 5- Shockingly, I have picked this back up in the last few days thanks to updates, a new car, and new "seasonal events" added through a patch.
5. and I guess The Sims 3- strictly for replay value, although i do get sick of it playing it long enough. things could change if it were 1 of 5 games i owned on an island. it would also allow me to recreate/imagine the domestic life i would have if i were not on an island :(

online:
1. SMB3- this game would still make it
2. Civ 3- playing against human opponents would change things up
3. NBA Live 10 (with updated rosters)- I don't think I could play anything older than Live 2005 online vs other people at this point
4. COD: MW2- for some reason, the luster on MW3 has worn off a bit faster than MW2. and I hate prestige mode (starting MP all over again) with a passion but it would have some use on an island.
5. If Super Mario Kart on SNES somehow had an online mode to race against other people, then this would be #5

Online:
BF3 - Shooter
Civ5 - I do like the new combat mechanics of the newest version, though I have never played it online I believe I'd like it
Minecraft - I've never played online but played around with offline and it took me back to my lego days
Dark Souls - Probably my favourite single player experience this year (yep sorry Skyrim), and New game+ would make for good replay value, online component is fun too
NBA 2k11 - Basketball is cewl

Offline only I'd swap Dark Souls and BF3 for the following:
Skyrim - Creating new player and focusing on a single class could make it enjoyable for a long time
Simcity Deluxe 4 - I don't play it consistently, but once every year or so I go through a phase where I can't put it down
&
Minecraft
NBA 2k11
Civ5

Off-topic, why is there no Dark Souls Thread?

Re: Five Games, One Island

I've been mulling creating a thread like this, though I was going to suggest ten games. I'll post that list after benji's scenarios.

Scenario #1

1. NBA 2K12 - being the latest sim
2. NBA Live 06 - because I still have a Dynasty going that I enjoy and can update it
3. Fallout: New Vegas
4. Fallout 3
5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I know there isn't a lot of variety there, but they are the kind of games that I can play over and over again and in the case of Fallout, try to play in slightly different ways each time if I so choose.

If we're to enforce a little more variety in the list, I'd have to go with:

1. NBA Live 06
2. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition
3. Fallout: New Vegas
4. GTA: Liberty City Stories
5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

And if we're to cut it down to one game per genre or series:

1. NBA Live 06
2. Fallout: New Vegas
3. GTA: Liberty City Stories
4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
5. WWE '12

Scenario #2

I could probably go with the same five as my first list, just making use of a fully patched NBA 2K12 (let's assume the PC patch has dropped before I'm on the island) and continuing on with my Dynasty in NBA Live 06 as-is. Otherwise:

1. NBA Live 06
2. Fallout: New Vegas
3. GTA: Liberty City Stories
4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
5. Donkey Kong Country 2

Ten Games Scenario

Updates and online features are all available in this scenario.

1. NBA 2K12
2. NBA Live 06
3. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition

That takes care of the basketball fix with two sim games, a long running save and an arcade game.

4. Fallout: New Vegas
5. Fallout 3

As mentioned before, I can play them over and over again with slightly different methods each time if desired. In this scenario, there's also mods.

6. Super Mario All-Stars
7. Donkey Kong Country 2

Takes care of the platformers with two of my favourites. Super Mario All-Stars sneakily adds a few more games to the rotation, while still taking up just one spot.

8. GTA: Liberty City Stories

To get a GTA game in there.

9. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Because I'd have to.

10. WWE '12

I'd need a wrestling game in there and it's the latest one. Hard to pick it over all-time favourites like No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000, but I think I'd need to go with the current game here.

Doing one game per genre or series:

1. NBA Live 06
2. Fallout: New Vegas
3. Donkey Kong Country 2 (just to be different, plus I have ten games to work with on this list)
4. GTA: Liberty City Stories
5. WWE '12
6. Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail
7. Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit
8. Lemmings (probably the original)
9. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
10. Guitar Hero: World Tour

Ah, even better.

Well, with all the time in the world, I could crappily recreate any Mario, or Sonic, or uh, Street Fighter with LBP2........or I could just make more boobs to look at.
