Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are bringing Jay & Silent Bob Get Old to Australia for four shows. If you happen to listen to the podcast or are a Kevin Smith fan in general, it's probably worth checking out.

I think it was last year when I saw Kevin Smith do a Q&A at the Opera House. I find that he's actually a very engaging storyteller. Whether I get a ticket or not will depend on how much money I'll have after I move houses. That's happening in the next few weeks as well.

Absolutely, it's one of the reasons the various podcasts on the SModcast network are so entertaining to listen to. Mewes is also grown into a pretty entertaining storyteller as the podcasts have gone on and he's got some pretty wild stories to tell.

Oh yeah, it's also great that Mewes is clean now as well. I really liked this interview:

Definitely. He had a relapse a few years back but has been sober again for going on two years. As far as the podcasts go, the ones I listen to every week are the flagship SModcast with Kevin and Scott Mosier, Jay & Silent Bob Get Old with Kevin and Mewes and Tell 'Em Steve-Dave with Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan and Brian Quinn.

Thanks to a joke that went a bit too far, plus an idiot friend who kept pushing the issue and going on about it, a relationship with a girl friend of mine has gone from close to just awkwardness. FFS.

Just finished my last assignment for the semester. Got 1 class in january (and 2 standardized tests), student teaching...and then im done. Shit just got real.

Fucking terrible night. In preparation to stat awake for a long night studying, I drank like four cans of mountain dew, I've never drank that much caffeine at one time before. About 1:30AM I'm really starting to feel like shit, and a couple of my neighbors come into my room saying my neighbor feels like she's going to pass out and her heartbeat was all fucked up and shit and she said she thinks she had too much caffiene. So obviously I'm kind of scared because I'm feeling really shitty too, so I went with her and one other guy drove us to the hospital, by which time I'm feeling a lot better, but she's still about to pass out, so she goes in, and like after three hours of waiting with my friend in the waiting room, not being able to sleep, and not being able to study for my final, apparently nothing was wrong with her and that it was a minor reaction to a lot of caffeine. Minor reaction my ass: she thought she was having a fucking heart attack. in the end, I got about an hour of studying done for my final exam this afternoon, and exactly zero seconds of sleep. I'm almost tempted to drink another mountain dew because I'm probably going to fail the fucking test by just falling asleep in the middle of it. I really don't have much of a clue how to program in java, so im probably going to fail anyway.

EDIT: and now on top of this, for the last two or so hours that ive been in bed, trying to sleep, study, or get distracted like I am right now, I'm pretty sure I somehow twisted my knee, because it hurts like a motherfucker and I can't walk across my room without holding onto shit, let alone attempting to walk across campus to get to class and then my exam.

Sorry for being a whiny bitch throughout the post- I'm just really pissed off, worried, and all sorts of other shit right now.

Ahhh finals week in undergrad. I had a night like that at least once per semester.

You know the solution to you kids problem?

Being for real though: when i had to pull all nighters, chugging the the caffeine doesnt work you have to space out. Also make sure you still eat. Fucks your stomach something fierce if you dont. Ive gotten so sick from allnighters plus caffeine i almost missed the class i stayed up all night for.

Ah college.

Finally back online after moving into my new home.
After many delays I eventually got the keys to my house and I had to do the moving out/moving in process at night after coming back from work, which was pretty fucking brutal...Plus we had to do without any hot water for a couple of days because the stupid boiler gave up on us right away, so I just had to spend $500 on a new one...
Well, at least we're settled now, and tomorrow I'm off to start making myself a "man cave" by buying a pool table and a little bar for the booze.

A huge wind storm came through southern california knocking down loads of trees, power lines and street light poles. We have been without power for 3 days, now. My city declared a state of emergency.

I slept through most of it, got up and got some breakfast and took my computer to a friends house and had a small lan party.

yeah it got pretty crazy up there. yesterday i went to weather.com and they had a slideshow of the damage and every california picture was of pasadena
it was really windy here but obviously not as bad as it was a bit further north pasadena, diamond bar, SG valley, etc

Now onto my fourth iPod nano, though at least this one was replaced under warranty. The volume up button got stuck, which a quick Google search yesterday revealed to be an issue that a fair few other people have run into as well. I took it back to Kmart where I bought it in July, only to be told that I'd need to ring Apple. That call led to me to the Apple store where I had to make an appointment to see a Genius, which along with the general vibe of the store and the employees' gratuitous use of words like "cool" and "awesome" in response to everything I said made me shudder a little. And frankly, proud to be a PC user. The service was friendly overall though and they knew their stuff about Apple products, I'll definitely give them that.

Anyway, when my appointment came up I presented my problematic iPod and after a quick inspection - pretty plain to see the button was cactus - I was set up with a replacement. I was told that a few other nanos had come back with that problem, which didn't surprise me given the posts I found online. I'm guessing that it's not an uncommon flaw with the sixth generation nano. That's what bugs me about Apple users who get on their high horse about Apple products; nothing is built to last, nothing is infallible and anything with moving parts (like buttons and switches) stands a chance at breaking, especially if there is a design flaw or manufacturing error to begin with. It's not like I'd been treating it roughly and I'd say most of the other people who've run into the same problem have been treating their nanos with care as well.

In any case, at least I got a new one without having to shell out more money, the cost of petrol and a phone call aside.

The nano's kind of suck now anyway. Once Apple started loading up on unnecessary features to make the nano real fancy (4th? generation), what little quality control they had, went out the window. My friend had to give back TWO 6th gen. nanos last month , one because no sound would play out of it, and the replacement had a nearly unresponsive screen. The third works alright, but seriously, three tries to get a working brand-new iPod?

I haven't run into any problems with my iphone 4 yet, hope it stays that way.

Those are the exact reasons why I stay away from apple mobile devices. I was really close to getting an Itouch once, but I always thought it sounded like some molestation device.

I'm glad I held out and got a small sansa clip. It was perfect until I got tired of the little 4gb space and picked up a cowon d3. It's not perfect, as their first android device left much to be desired, but they have great service and updated it's software with fixes quote often.

iPods are my media player of choice and I generally like their features but the need to replace them and the sketchy battery life are both a bit disappointing. Nothing is built to last but it does seem like there is a bit of a breakdown in quality control.

I wouldn't mind an iPhone, I've used my friends' iPhones in the past and they are pretty cool. I can't justify the cost though and I certainly don't need one; I only got my Nokia X6 because it was on a plan that cost the same amount I was already paying per month, only with 200 MB of data and the phone on a two year contract. All the iPhone plans were more expensive, a bit more than I wanted to pay. iPads seem pretty nifty too but I have no use for one.

I have a "fancy" cd player from the past that plays mp3 cds. I use it in my car sometimes via tape deck adapter and cigarette lighter adapter when I drive more than 15 miles. You can not even purchase it. It supports playlists (which seems redundant for the OCD customer who organizes all albums) and ID3 tags. It can support upwards of maybe like six to eight hours of music depending on the bitrate. Truly the wave of 2002.

Look at you, look at you all with your batteries and your "space" and your "breakdowns" bow before my decade old technology. BOW DAMMIT.

Honestly, this is what I use. My laptop or desktop are present pretty much ever else.

I have posts on here longer than four pages. If I got an assignment that said 3-5 pages I wrote it in the hour before class.

And you're SOMEHOW supposed to do that and a test? lolololololololololololololol did I emphasize this enough?

Prepare now because every single scumbag professor you have will decide that a select two weeks (if not one week) are where you need to do every single important paper or assignment and don't worry, you won't do them before, neither will anyone else and they know this. They get off on it. They might even throw you an exam.

My last semester had a week where I had a Mid-Term, Paper, Mid-Term, Paper, in the course of EIGHT DAYS. IN TWO CLASSES.

If four pages is giving you fits, you'll never be anything. Four pages is like nothing. I can write four pages in my sleep. Metaphorically anyway.

Tips?

Undo all the settings in Word. Do 1.0 spacing, and defaults Calbiri 11pt. Then write, write, write. You'll think you're almost nowhere, less than halfway done, and then you put it into Times New Roman, 12pt and double spaced and you suddenly have three and a half pages.

It's empowering. You've added an abstract layer and reconceptialized the paper on different terms. Now your four page paper is two or less.

I know, you'll claim this doesn't work, but try it. EVERYONE try it.

I did 16 pages about the city of Vernon, California and 14.5 pages on the failure of the regulatory state. In a day combined. And it aint no thang.

Here's what you do, you get the assignment, and you read it all, and start pondering it for a while while you shit and shower and bang Jackal. Then you know what you want to do when you write, you just have to figure out how to do it. And you do that, and not give a shit, because it's due that day and also you banked a half hour to go back through.

If you don't know what you're doing going in? Well, there's nothing you can do that saves you. Sorry. Thankfully, if you're not in a hard science you probably aren't doing anything of value anyway.

I still have an mp3 cd player. I lost the dongle that allowed me to change the volume or skip songs without having to reach all the way into my pocket to find the bevel on the play button. How the cd player fit in my pocket I will never know. The anti skip works ten times better than with a normal cd player. Out had a fucking lcd screen.

What am I supposed to do with all these rap cds from no limit records that I never listen to?

and the previous owner says when he bought my car new in 2003, it had no head unit so he bought a new one and it plays mp3 cds, which is an upgrade from my previous car which is a '97 and only played regular CDs and burned CDs.

Oddly enough, my first generation nano does still work. The battery is shot but I always use it in the car with a RoadTrip so it doesn't matter.

I once wrote an essay in english during senior high school in a contest whose duration was only for 3 hours.
I spent the first half hour looking at the other contestants guessing which school they came from and the other half taking a nap since it started at 9AM and I haven't had breakfast yet. Bastards.
Spent the next half hour writing a draft and the other half rewriting the final piece so it would look clean and presentable (I have ugly hand writing).
Decided to trash my piece and write a new one with a 'feel good' piece for the judges since I decided might as well try to win something. iirc the new one was about the environment.
Spent 20 minutes writing the draft and the final 40 rewriting the presentable piece (did I mention that I have bad handwriting?).
Wrote both drafts in an intermediate pad (8"x10"), no margins, no spaces except for the new paragraphs and had made 3 pages of it (intended the number of pages to be no more no less than that).
Won 2nd place.

If you do find yourself again in your situation, study for the test first. Even better if your mind gets tired studying then writing the essay since you'll just write and write because your mind can't be fucked because it's tired and your thoughts just flow. I can't guarantee the quality, it depends on your knowledge of the topic like all essays do.

Better yet, ask the room service if they also do essays and have them do it for you.

10 page paper on the disease statistics of Champaign county. We had alot of STDs. Written the night before it was due.

6 page paper on something to do with exercise science. I was doing a wheelchair sports paper. There's only like 4 sources. Due at 4 pm. Started at 2 pm. 97 overall on the paper.

Z, benji and shadow already got you on this but 4 pages is a fucking joke. Wait till you get lab reports that are required to be a minimum of 30 pages WITHOUT charts. Grow a pair son.

My brother's laptop is saying his copy of Windows is not genuine. I looked in the computer's properties, and it had changed the validation key. Re-entered it, but it still didn't change and insisted I buy Windows. I've scanned with MalwareBytes, SpyBot and AVG, found multiple infections with each, cleared them all out, tried again with the key, no dice. Tried scanning with Ad-Aware, and then halfway through the computer rebooted. So I tried again, and the computer rebooted halfway through again. So I tried in safe mode, and it rebooted halfway through again.

It's got text in the bottom right that says:

Windows 7
Evaluation copy. Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

The laptop itself is years old, so it's not actually Windows requiring activation because it was never activated upon installation.

Anyone else got any ideas?
