Nick Young: Need opinions & help

Postby wtferrell on Sun Oct 16, 2011 10:40 am

Hey guys, after looking at Nick Young and his 'fro that he rocked mostly last season, I felt he needed an update for 2k12. Since we don't have a headshape editor as of yet, here's what I did:

Took Andre Miller's 2k12 file... renamed it to png1425.iff. Used the importer/exporter and imported AmaroWaades Nick Young textures from 2k11.

Here's where I'm at currently. I think it looks about as good as it's going to get without a headshape editor. The only problem is, the hairline is photoshopped in. I've tried to edit the texture map, but the color of the hair always shows the "shine" from the sweat/face. Does anyone know how I can remove the shine completely for the hair, so it'll show a true black to match the afro?

Any other thoughts to make it more Nick?

There's the new texture that I'm working on from this photo:

It's not great by any means, but just wanted to show a workaround for the meantime. If anyone wants this, and AmaroWaade gives permission to release it, as it is his texture, then I'll release it. Much better in my eyes than the default 2k12 Nick Young.

Nice thinking. I love it!!! Once you get the permission then this will be one of the best updates for 2k12 so far (Y)

As soon as I hear something from AmaroWaade, I don't care to release it at all. Glad you all like it. If anyone can get in touch with him, that would be great. Sent him an email, but haven't heard anything.

I can't do any work on it. It's just the headshape. I see D12 too... but I see "some" Nick Young. Maybe if someone wants to do it, Andre Miller's png is png0597.iff and Nick Young is png1425.iff.

If someone wants to take their hand at working on the CF to make it more accurate, then so be it. I just can't handle the "stock" Nick Young.

Thanks guys. Hopefully Amaro will chime in, or someone can take my idea and improve upon it. Miller's headshape works "pretty well" overall I guess.

If that's the general thing, then I don't care to release it. All credit is given to AmaroWaade, I had nothing to do with it other than importing it into a new headshape.

I'll release in a few minutes.

It has been uploaded to NLCS downloads. It has to be approved by an administrator before it'll be "live" to download. (Y)

Gotcha.. I'm getting ready to upload it to my personal site, and then when an Admin can "approve" then we can just use this download site.

Nick Young RELEASED. All credits if it is edited and rereleased go to AmaroWaade... I take no credit for his excellent work. Enjoy guys.

Just a comparison to stock Nick Young to the edited Nick Young. It'll do until someone can edit headshapes. Not "too far" off... The eyes will need some tweaking, as will the nose and lips, possibly chin. For a quick fix, not bad. Enjoy guys.

Haha.. Thanks. Hopefully someone can take what I've done, and tweak the texture to make it a little more "Nick Young" until we can get an appropriate headshape editor.

If anyone is interested, I'll be releasing an updated Nick Young after I'm able to get some previews up (wife is using the TV, which is hooked to my PC). I've fixed the skintone, to make him lighter. I'm going to be updating the texture to hopefully give him more of a "Nick Young" appearance. Since we can't edit headshapes, I'm going to try to alter the face texture to adapt to the HS.

Re: Nick Young Conversion Updated Skintone!

Postby wtferrell on Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:24 pm

Sorry guys, been a tough time getting the computer away from the wife & kids... I'm getting ready to upload the "lightened" skintone version. Still working and trying to tweak the actual face texture. Not tweak, it's a new texture as a whole... so I'm still trying to "figure things out".

If someone can... let me know how to make a players hair "black" on their head. In Photoshop, it's black, but in game, it has a light tint to it, and lighter than the afro. One problem with this project is Andre Millers forehead extends further than NY's... so I'm adding his hairline a little lower to compensate for it.

There's the updated skintone version. Still working around with my textures to see if I can Nickify it any.

There is something about the new texture that I'm working on that just SCREAMS Melo though... lol
