At least the Sixers didn't waste a #1 pick on some tripod with two weak legs and could have had Reverend Durant.

Probably because defense is just one of the problems faced by those teams. The Knicks have a pretty good roster with plenty of offensive firepower, but they have a coach whose interest in defense appears to be fleeting at best. Better defense is holding the Knicks back from taking further steps, those other teams have quite a few more steps to take beyond simply getting better defensively.

Because they're not playoff teams. The Knicks are a playoff team trying to become contenders. The Cavs, Pistons, Raptors- will you see them in the playoffs anytime soon? No. So it doesn't really matter. The Knicks actually matter and defense (or lack thereof) is what holds them back from being serious contenders.

None of those teams ever had a history of being a defensive juggernaut. Edit: Besides Detroit but they were a circus show this year with all the drama.

Looks like the Knicks are getting an alternate logo:

Looks like it's a new primary logo, according to SportsLogos.net. Just a slight tweak of the previous logo.

Thank you Andrew. Defense is a Knick tradition, going back to the early 70's glory years. And it sickens the diehard fans(not the frauds who go to MSG to be seen) to see this team playing like the Phoenix Suns-east version. We f-n HATE Pringles!

Look at how Miami and Chicago play defense. THAT'S what we want here in NYC. Until the Knicks get serious on 'D', and get a REAL coach, they will be bottom feeders. Say what you want about LeBron and Wade, at least they give a damn about defense, unlike our two stars. We need a coach who'll MAKE them play defense.

Steps for instant success for Knicks.

1) Get rid of Pringles'
2) Get rid of Dolan
3) Get rid of Melo, no offense, but if you want some D and a true franchise player, he HAS to go
4) Implement DEFENSE
5) Try their best to get Dwight, far reached but it's possible

The former team (Walker-Rose-Pedja-Anderson-Fisher) would vaporize the latter team off the face of the earth. They have gobs of rings, the latter team has one ring combined. Anyone who doesn't have a ring is worthless especially compared to those who won rings.

Real basketball fans know this, anyone with a ring is better than anyone without one automatically.

Learn about the game already, maybe you could try watching it to start.

Thanks for correction. They really need to rebuild again. I suggest tanking so they can get Andre Drummond and Muhammed Shabezz in the next couple of years lol

As I've said before, the Knicks will never be what they were during the 70s and mid-90s as long as Brain-Dead Dolan is in charge. Unfortunately, owners can't be fired, and the Knicks are a huge cash-cow, win or lose.

Part of Dolan's reason for getting rid of Donnie Walsh;

"As we reported Wednesday, the Knicks finally did not have to pay a luxury tax this July after being one of the tax-paying leaders for many years. The Players Association and league are finishing up the final audit this week. The Knicks’ payroll finished 2010-11 at $67 million — $9M over the cap mostly due to the Carmelo trade. But they fell $3 million lower than the luxury-tax threshold. What did it get president Donnie Walsh for saving Dolan all that tax money while getting the Knicks in the playoffs? It surely didn’t get Walsh his final $5 million option year in which Dolan could have exercised last spring instead of trying to negotiate an awkward extension. Dolan didn’t want Walsh to have the full $5 million during a lockout season. After all the money Walsh saved Dolan with his responsible payroll cuts, Walsh deserved a $5 million bonus."

Just shows what a scumbag Dolan is. Like I said, Knicks will never be great again with this fool as owner.

It's just plain low. He was fine throwing away millions of dollars in terrible contracts that were given out under Isiah's watch - and still trust him on basketball matters to boot - but he's not willing to give a little extra to Walsh after the tremendous job he did cleaning up the mess of the previous two regimes in a remarkably short period of time. From a business standpoint, it's understandable I guess but pretty cold.

Not to mention that sexual-harrassment suit, which cost Dolan $11mil.

I seriously laughed for about 30 seconds thinking about how stupid #3 was. The Knicks traded everything they had for Carmelo. The only way the Knicks trade him is if they get Dwight Howard or Chris Paul (or if the Heat get uber-desperate: LeBron or Bosh lol). Outside of that, no way. But yeah, 'Antoni (note I left off the "D") must go for this team to acquire any sort form of useful defense.

That's the kind of brainpower we have running one of the NBA's flagship franchises.

Now tell me why I should be optimistic about this team's future.

Mike Woodson is coming to New York to help the Knicks' defense. Just don't call him a defensive specialist.

As an assistant to Larry Brown in Detroit, Woodson was credited with building the defense that helped the Pistons win the 2004 NBA championship. He was then hired in Atlanta, where he increased his win total every year from 13 in his first season to 53 in 2009-10. But the Hawks lost their four second-round games to the Magic by an average of 25.3 points, the most lopsided sweep in NBA history.

Can't hurt. He wouldn't be a bad successor to D'Antoni either, at least until they could get someone with a more impressive resume.
