Setting Controls..help!

Postby MasterChiefIn on Wed Nov 13, 2002 2:12 pm

When you choose what buttons are assigned to what function in controller setup, you can't assign defensive and offensive controls separately. So the SHOOT button is NOT the same as the REB/BLOCK button. This completely messes me up, so unless there's a way to set these controls properly, I can't play NBA Live 2003 :( . Please, someone tell me a way to fix this?

for example, in NBA Live 2003 the shoot button is the same as the TAKE CHARGE button on defense, which sucks for me..is there any way to assign defense and offense buttons separately?

For the demo, right? I heard that the full will be different, and will enable you to change just that.

There's a controller config file that you can edit and change the controls. Look in:

C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\NBA Live 2003\interface\configs

and open the file that matches your controller.

I have the same problem. How could EA mess this up?
Hoopscity- I tried messing around with my controller file, but it doesn't work. I need to somehow change the positions of the defensive controls to match up w/ the offensive controls...so it looks like this:

pass -button 2 steal -button 2
shoot -button 1 reb/blk -button 1
ect...

any ideas?

there are two controller configs - there default is in the live directory. I forget the subfolder name but its there.

You have to edit both the one in the documents folder and the default for it to accept your changes.

i changed the key bindings in both places, but when i go in the game it just goes back to SHOOT and TAKE CHARGE being the same button again. Maybe i'm doing it wrong, could someone who's gotten it to work post a sample .kfg file or something?

OK, im still lost. What default and documents folders are you reffering to?

I see that every game controller has two files, a .jfg and a .fec in the directory C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\NBA Live 2003\interface\configs

I edited the .jfg. Am i supposed to edit the .fec also? If so, how?

thanks

the default configs are in the folder you mentioned, but they are copied, along with new configs that you create in-game, to the NBA Live 2003 folder in My Documents (look in the config/interface folder in there)

Sup Ya'll. I just got the nbal 2003 pc today as well, and the only problem i have is trying to configure the controls. Is notepad sufficient enough to handle the editing job? Please help

yes notepad is fine, but the trouble is getting the program to accept the edited files.

I tried editting both the config files for my controller in the NBA LIVE dir and My Documents, and the changes do not take effect in the game. I have tried everything possible, and no luck. Let me know if anyone cracks this riddle.

this is ridiculous. how could ea be so stupid. the option to map controls for offense and defense separately was there in previous editions of nba live, why take it out now? and why have such ridiculous combos like shoot = take charge?

Ok guys, I talked to EA..

Here is their only solution:

EMAIL suggestions@ea.com telling them to include the option for better control mapping in the upcoming patch! this is very important, the more emails sent, the more likely it is that they will fix this huge issue. so email them now!
