("Office. Where it all happens" is a series of articles, records and thoughts of Orlando Magic head coach Janis Kalnins)

It's already a month since I've been the head coach of Orlando Magic, so I decided to evaluate my players and write my thoughts about them on paper, which I won't show to anyone, but it could help me to coach this team. I learned this method in Europe and the results should be interesting.

Dwight Howard

The most dominant center in the world, I don't want to think where we'd be without him. Yes, his rebounding is below his career average, but that's mostly because he has never played alongside such a great rebounder as William. And his scoring average is the highest in his career, which could be because of my offensive systems, which are much like Euroleague teams play on offense.

John William

Rookie has been doing great for us thus far, playing alongside Dwight and complementing him on offense and defense. Yes, he isn't scoring as much as in college, but his rebounding has been better than expected, he also has a nice mid range jumper and can make a three pointer from time to times.

Hedo Turkoglu

Hedo is probably the best third option on offense in the league, although I would like his game to be more stable, because in some games he can light up and be the best player on the floor, but in some nights, when his shots aren't falling, he starts to shoot more and thus can destroy the whole game plan. His defense also could be better, but I've noticed that it becomes better, when he has to guard stars, like James or Anthony.

Jason Richardson

To be honest, I expected much more from a veteran like Jason Richardson. Yes, his three-point shooting is good and his assists per game are the highest in the team, but his defense has been awful - if Christian Eyenga has a career game, when Richardson was guarding him, you know there is something wrong with his defense. He also looks disinterested and unmotivated, probably because of the big extension he signed this summer.

Gilbert Arenas

Probably the best scorer on this team and the second best player overall and that's something if your teammates with Dwight Howard. Although Arenas is still below career averages in points, assists and rebounds, he is coming back to his old self. Also he has career highs in steals and blocks per game, which shows his improvement in defense, where he's progressed from bad to average.

Jameer Nelson

Jameer has accepted his role as the sixth man and he's doing really well. He brings us the scoring punch from the bench and leads the second unit. It's great, when you have a player like this, who you can send on court, when your starters are starting quiet on offense.

Sam Young

Sam is the best outside defender on this team and we really miss him right now, because of the injury he got on mid November and from which he still hasn't recovered. He doesn't have a reliable shot and his moves on offense are rusty, but his defense is significant to us.

J. J. Redick

Three point specialist and great scorer with not much defensive game. Although his defense isn't good, I like what he brings to this team, plus he perfectly fits into my offensive systems.

Ryan Anderson

I was expecting a bit more from Ryan before this season, but I guess I was too optimistic about him. He hasn't found his stroke at the three-point line and he's also been quite soft on defense. However, his rebounding has been better than expected.

Kurt Thomas

Kurt brings veteran leadership on and off the court and it's irreplaceable. Every play-off team needs a player like this to succeed and I hope Kurt will stay in the league for another couple of years.

Stanley Robinson

Stanley is somewhere between small forward and power forward positions and still hasn't found his real place. He won't have much chance to play until he does.

Jeremy Lin

Pleasant young man with some good basketball skills and high basketball IQ. He could be a pretty good point guard in Europe, but he's also not the worst one in the NBA. I see him as a second point guard soon, in Magic or some other NBA team. He's also a great locker room guy.

Ruben Holmes

To be honest, I can't see Ruben playing in NBA after his current rookie contract ends. He's a nice hard working guy, but he just lacks the skill and basketball fundamentals.

Yeah, Indiana got the better player from that trade, but don't worry Phoenix still has Robin Lopez ;)
Rubio is indeed doing well in this dynasty

Magic participating in a 4-team, 10-player deal

Image
Welcome to Orlando, Serge!

Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed on a 4-team, 10-player trade, which includes such players as Jason Richardson, 2011 NBA draft's no. 1 pick Nadeem Pardo, Travis Outlaw and Serge Ibaka. It is rumored that Minnesota Timberwolves also were going to participate in this deal, but backed-off at the last minute.

The New Jersey Nets were looking to land a star player, who could play alongside Deron Williams and Brook Lopez and they got one from this trade in Jason Richardson, who is averaging 14,9 points and 5,3 assists thus far this season. They also acquired power forward Ryan Anderson and rookie guard Ruben Holmes. Anderson is averaging 3,4 points and 3,6 rebounds per game this season and should be a good back-up for Kris Humphries.

"Richardson is a very skilled player offensively, which is exactly what we were looking for," says Nets head coach Avery Johnson, "and alongside Deron he will play even better."

The Nets gave up Travis Outlaw, Jordan Farmar and Dean Griffin in this trade. None of them is a big loss for the team, because Outlaw's contract was way too big, Farmar wasn't feeling any good since Deron Williams came to New Jersey and Griffin, although he's a pretty good talent, didn't get much playing time behind Brook Lopez and Dan Gadzuric.

IN: Jason Richardson (ORL), Ryan Anderson (ORL), Ruben Holmes (ORL)
OUT: Travis Outlaw (ATL), Jordan Farmar (ATL), Dean Griffin (ORL)

Starting Line-up: B.Lopez, K.Humphries, T.Prince, J.Richardson, D.Williams

Grade: A

This was a decent deal for Hawks too. Yes, they gave away the number one pick of this year's draft, but he wasn't getting much burn behind Josh Smith anyway and now they have a new starting small forward in Travis Outlaw, who last his starting job in New Jersey after Tayshaun Prince came to the Nets this summer via Free Agency.

Atlanta also acquired back-up point guard Jordan Farmar, who will fill the void, which emerged when former back-up point guard Jeff Teague signed with Phoenix Suns this summer.

IN: Travis Outlaw (NJN), Jordan Farmar (NJN)
OUT: Nadeem Pardo (OKC), Marvin Williams (ORL)

Starting Line-up: A.Horford, J.Smith, T.Outlaw, J.Johnson, K.Hinrich

Grade: B

Oklahoma City Thunder may be the winners of this draft in the long run, because they acquired a developing star, this year's draft number one pick, Nadeem Pardo, who will replace Serge Ibaka, who went to Orlando via this trade, in the starting line-up. Pardo not only has a greater upside than Ibaka, he also fits better with Kendrick Perkins on OKC's frontcourt and the Thunder also gained a new market to work with in Philippines now, where Pardo has gained enormous fame, being the only Philippines player in the NBA.

OKC also got Stanley Robinson out of this deal. He's a developing talent, which could be either a good back-up in few years or out of this league.

IN: Nadeem Pardo (ATL), Stanley Robinson (ORL)
OUT: Serge Ibaka (ORL)

Starting Line-up: K.Perkins, N.Pardo, K.Durant, J.Harden, R.Westbrook

Grade: A+

Orlando Magic were looking to deal away Jason Richardson for a while and now they finally accomplish it, with Anderson, Holmes and Robinson also leaving. J-Rich wasn't the favorite Magic's head coach Janis Kalnins' player and wasn't getting the playing time he wanted and Holmes was getting some garbage minutes only in two games this season. Anderson, on the other hand, was a quite important player in Kalnins' rotation, so he will be a sensible loss for Magic.

"Anderson was great on offense and he was also a good locker room guy," Kalnins characterizes his former player, "but he lacked qualities on defense, that's why we decided to deal him away."

So it's no surprise that Magic acquired more defensive minded Serge Ibaka instead of Anderson. Ibaka, who averages 8 points and 8 boards per game this season, is expected to come off the bench at first, but could get the starting spot from William when time comes. Orlando also acquired Marvin Williams, who will be the back-up for Hedo Turkoglu and Dean Griffin, who is a new project at the centre position for the Magic, if Kurt Thomas retires and/or Dwight Howard leaves after this season.

IN: Serge Ibaka (OKC), Marvin Williams (ATL), Dean Griffin (NJN)
OUT: Jason Richardson (NJN), Ryan Anderson (NJN), Ruben Holmes (NJN), Stanley Robinson (OKC)

Starting Line-up: D.Howard, J.William, H.Turkoglu, S.Young, G.Arenas

Grade: B-

People from other countries regularly do that. There's nothing wrong with it.

Nice trade, but I would start ibaka and Nelson over William and Young, maybe even Marvin Williams over Turkeyglue.

Ibaka will come from the bench for now, but could get into staring line-up if he shows a better game than William.

As for Young - I have no intention to get him off the starting line-up, because he's the only starter that can guard opponents outside players and Arenas-Nelson duo would be a disaster on defense. And Turkoglu isn't coming off the bench any time soon.

Yeah, they have put a nice core of players around D-Will :)

From wiki: In much of Europe, Southern Africa and Latin America the comma is used as a decimal separator, equivalent to the use in English of the decimal point.

I'm from Europe ;)
