Series Tied 2-2(3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS vs. (2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS New Orleans Arena - New Orleans, LA May 14, 2011 Matchups Chris Paul PG Baron Davis Marcus Thornton SG Eric Gordon Trevor Ariza SF Wilson Chandler David West PF Blake Griffin Emeka Okafor C Ben Wallace HORNETS BLOW OUT CLIPS, TIE SERIES
THE FACTS: Both teams struggled to get their first basket, but once the ball went it the lid came off as both teams starter to score. Eric Gordon however was still having trouble missing his first 5 shot attempts. With Gordon's struggled came Marcus Thornton lighting up it up with 8 straight points in a matter of seconds to give the Hornets a safer lead. Soon Baron Davis and Blake Griffin would get into foul trouble as the Hornets started to pull away. Not counting Eric Gordon, the Clippers shot decent from beyond the arc and the made 3PTers are what kept them close. In the second half, Blake Griffin was trying to gain some momentum after playing limited minutes in the first half, but his efforts were matched by David West's scoring and Emeka Okafor's defense. The would stay close until Blake Griffin get his 4th foul and is sent to the bench. The Hornets make a run and start the 4Q with a descent lead. The Clippers looked ready to make a run to start the 4Q, but Blake Griffin would again draw and early foul and sit on the bench. During that time the Clippers continued to struggled shooting 36% and relying to much on the deep ball that was no longer falling. Chris Paul and Trevor Ariza was scoring freely and eventually was able to push the lead up to 22 points, and the Clippers were never able to recover. The series is now tied going back to Los Angeles.
THE STAT: The Clippers were completely flat on both ends in the 4Q as they scored only 18 points and allowed 35 points
QUOTABLE: Baron Davis on his injury, "Does it hurt? I don't know, I can't think of that right now...we have to get home and win the next game in front of our fans."
HOT: Emeka Okafor was all over the place, scoring 19 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, collection 6 steals, and sending back 3 blocked shots, he also did it with 7 for 9 shooting
NOT: Craig Smith was terrible tonight scoring 0 points missing all 5 of his shot attempts and getting called for 4 fouls, he did not play in the 4Q even with Blake in foul trouble
GOOD MOVE: Off a missed shot, Willie Green skys for the put back slam dunk over both Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon
BAD MOVE: With the shot clock winding down, Nick Young crowds Marcus Thornton, but as Thornton throws up a desperation shot attempt, Nick Young fouls him and sends him to the line
Injuries: Late in the 3Q Baron Davis is taken down by DJ Mbenga and collides with Chris Paul, Baron would make his FT before going to the locker room, he did return to start the 4Q but is diagnosed with back spasmsFinal Score:

NBA FINE, PROSPECT WARNED
NEW ORLEANS ARENA - Most NBA players are known for their feuds with other basketball players. Chris Paul has started his own - with a player who's not even in the league.
Basketball prospect Jerome Barkhorn was watching from the bleachers as the Hornets blew out the L.A. Clippers, 119-95, to tie their Western Conference semis matchup at 2-2.
Barkhorn, wearing a Blake Griffin jersey, was reported as shouting "F**K THE HORNETS!" near the end of the game. Paul confronted him after the game, and seeing a discarded ice cream cup lying on the floor, threw it at the Liberty City senior.
"That was such a childish thing to do. Heckling is part of the game, any game," Barkhorn said.
The league has decided not to suspend Paul, but instead fine him an amount of $2,000, while Barkhorn, a top prospect in this coming draft was issued a warning. NBA Commissioner David Stern commented, "That type of nonsense will not be tolerated in the NBA, he [Barkhorn] may not be punishable now, but once he signs that NBA contract he better correct himself."

NOH Leads 3-2(2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS vs. (3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA May 16, 2011 Matchups Baron Davis PG Chris Paul Eric Gordon SG Marcus Thornton Wilson Chandler SF Trevor Ariza Blake Griffin PF David West Ben Wallace C Emeka Okafor CLIPS BLOW IT, LOSE GORDON
THE FACTS: Baron Davis was clearly hurt and not his usual self, which meant the Clippers were without their floor general. The offensive sets were tough on the Clippers as no one was able to breakdown the defense and passes were being deflected. Luckily the Hornets, mainly Trevor Ariza, struggled to find the basket as well, that paired with some decent defense by the Clippers and the game stayed close. It was close until Nick Young checked in and went bonkers, scoring 17 1Q points. The momentum would carry over to the 2Q where the Clippers lead would grow to as high as 22 points. But the second half was still another story, as it seems the Clippers inexperience got the better of them. Chris Paul lead his Hornets back from the dead with his team scoring 37 points in the 3Q. The Clippers would just barely hold onto a 2 point lead going into the 4Q, where it became a back-and-forth affair. Midway thought the 4Q the Hornets broke away with a Luke Ridnour 3PTer and the Clippers never recovered. Eric Gordon hit a 3PTer to cut the lead to within 3, but a hard collision with Marcus Thornton sent him to the ground hard. Gordon would leave the game with a lower back strain and with him were the Clippers hopes of winning the game. The Clippers continued to fight, but they could just not stop Chris Paul and David West from scoring, and eventually the Hornets would be able to hold on just long enough to let time expire.
THE STAT: In only 6 minutes of play, Nick Young went 5 for 5, including 2 3PTers to score 17 points in the 1Q and give the Clippers a sizable lead
QUOTABLE: VDN on not putting Young back in, "Yes Young was hot, but EJ (who plays the same position) is who we wanted to get hot late in the game. We needed him to be in the flow of the game during crunch time."
HOT: After a 34% first half, the Hornets went offensively crazy in the second half with 60% to win the game
NOT: Trevor Ariza struggled mightily scoring only 9 points and making only 4 field goals
GOOD MOVE: Back spasms and all, Baron Davis on the break with the slam dunk
BAD MOVE: After Nick Young went off in the 1Q and was subbed out early in 2Q, Clippers Coach VDN did not put him back in until the 4Q, Young scored only 6 more points
Injuries: Eric Gordon went down after making a 3PTer in the 4Q with a lower back strain, he is expected to miss the rest of the series and is doubtful for the WCF, if the Clippers are able to advanceFinal Score:
