WEST: CONF. SEMI-FINALS
LAC Leads 2-0(2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS vs. (3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA May 10, 2011 Matchups Eric Bledsoe PG Chris Paul Eric Gordon SG Marcus Thornton Wilson Chandler SF Trevor Ariza Blake Griffin PF David West Ben Wallace C Emeka Okafor REMEMBER ME?
THE FACTS: There was a buzz even before tip-off after all of the recent news that have just happened. Baron Davis and GM KidJustin are currently suspended while two Clippers were handed awards before the game as Blake Griffin won the Rookie of the Year Award and Head Coach Vinny Del Negro won the Coach of the Year Award.
The Clippers started off hot, feeding of the emotions of the fans and the high intensity in the newly crowned Rookie of the Year. The Clippers were perfect beyond the arc and Blake Griffin was dominating in the paint. But the Hornets stayed close as David West was putting in a hard days work to keep up with Griffin. Unfortunately the Clippers near perfect first half was slightly diminished with Blake Griffin getting into foul trouble. Eric Gordon and the bench stepped up when Griffin was on the bench, but the Hornets were having an easier time. Gordon took on the scoring load with Griffin on the bench and the ball distributions as Baron Davis was serving his 1-game suspensions. In the 3Q however, right when the Clippers thought they were going to take control, Willie Green came off the bench for the Hornets and dropped 16 Points in the quarter alone to help the Hornets get their first lead of the game. The Clippers were able to tie it up again with some more 3PT shooting, but a Chris Paul And-1 play put the Hornets up going into the 4Q. The 4Q was close, but still looked to be in the Hornets control. When all of the starters finally returned, including Blake Griffin, the Clippers were able to swing the momentum and finally tie the game. The Clippers would take the lead late in the game, but a tough layup by Marcus Thornton would tie the game up again with 9 seconds left. After a Clippers timeout, Eric Gordon was dribble away the seconds at the top of the arc. With only 1 second remaining Eric Gordon took the shot and drained it to give the Clippers a win in Game 2 as they send nightmares to the Hornets reminding them of the same situation on the last game of the season between the two teams.
THE STAT: The Clippers shot a perfect 6 for 6 from beyond the arc in the 1Q
QUOTABLE: Ralph Lawler, "Gordon at the top of the key, fasten your seat belts gang, we're going down to the wire!"
Mike Smith, "He needs to go now! The time is running out!"
Ralph Lawler, "Are you worried Mike Smith?"
Mike Smith, "Me? No nev...there he goes!"
Ralph Lawler, "Eric Gordon with a 3 Pointer at the buzzer in Marcus Thornton's face......BINGOOOO!!!!!"
Mike Smith, "Yeaa!!"
Ralph Lawler, "Oh me, Oh my! What a shot by the young Eric Gordon....heh..and you were worried Mike Smith..."
HOT: Clippers first half 3PT shooting, 10 for 12 or 83%, in the 1Q they shot a perfect 6 for 6
NOT: Marcus Thornton continues to put up the points, but does it so ineffectively, including going 2-10 from 3PT tonight
GOOD MOVE: With 9 seconds remaining in a tied game, Eric Gordon dribbles in front of Marcus Thornton, the clock is at 1 and Gordon finally makes his move, a 3PT shot in Thornton's face, its good! The Clippers win!
BAD MOVE: Wilson Chandler threw a lob for Blake Griffin on the break, but losing the grip made Griffin miss the slam

WEST: CONF. SEMI-FINALS
LAC Leads 2-1(3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS vs. (2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS New Orleans Arena - New Orleans, LA May 12, 2011 Matchups Chris Paul PG Baron Davis Marcus Thornton SG Eric Gordon Trevor Ariza SF Wilson Chandler David West PF Blake Griffin Emeka Okafor C Ben Wallace CLIPPERS STUNG
THE FACTS: The quickly started in the Hornets favor as Blake Griffin already got a foul and his first two shots blocked. The Hornets focused their defense on the Clippers stars Griffin and Gordon, which forced other Clippers to step up. The Clippers were keeping close, but in trouble if they had to rely on the unsure hands of Ben Wallace and Ike Diogu scoring in the paint. The Hornets lead by Marcus Thornton's 16 first half points got them ahead by 14 points in the first half. But with smart floor leading by Baron Davis, who had just returned from his suspension, was able to find the players in the right positions and cut the lead down to 2 by halftime. In the 3Q it appeared like a new team on the floor as the Clippers were finally hitting some 3 Pointers, momentum was clearly on their side and it was lead by Griffin, who was working on a triple-double or maybe even a quadruple-double with the all-around game he was having. But the Hornets never fell behind by too much for too long and with Trevor Ariza making clutch play after clutch play the Hornets were able to regain the lead late in the 4Q. Trevor Ariza hit a 3Pointer to give them a 2 point lead with less than a minute remaining. Then after a defensive stop Eric Gordon blocked Chris Paul's layup, but the referees called a foul on Wilson Chandler and put Chris Paul on the line who increased the lead to 4. Another defensive stop by Trevor Ariza forced the Clippers to foul and then down by 6 the Clippers went with a 3Point line up. Nick Young drilled a shot from deep, but the referees said his foot was on the line, making it only a 2. Another foul and Chris Paul iced the game by making his first and missing the second to let time run out.
THE STAT: Blake Griffin got a triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and almost had a chance at a quadruple-double with his 6 blocked shots
QUOTABLE: Chris Paul, "We just keep fighting and we are in it. We are still in this series."
HOT: Blake Griffin struggled on offense, but filled up his stats in other categories, 12 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 4 steals, 6 blocks
NOT: Wilson Chandler could not buy a basket tonight going 3 for 16 from the field and only 1 for 4 from 3 Point land
GOOD MOVE: Blake Griffin tipped the ball away and got it on the break for a windmill jam
BAD MOVE: Eric Bledsoe had a wide open dunk on the break away, but complete missed it with no one around him
