So I started a Live 2003 franchise with what could be the future '11-'12 Bobcats.
Line-up (I traded S-Jax and Tyrus Thomas to Philly for Andre Iguodala):
Bismack Biyombo (6'9) (created, hoping the Cats will pick him @ #9)
Boris Diaw (6'8)
Andre Iguodala (6'6)
Gerald Henderson (6'4)
DJ Augustin (6'0, if that)
--
Chris Singleton (6'9) (created, hoping he drops to #19)
Shaun Livingston (6'7)
DJ White (6'9)
Kwame Brown (6'11)
Matt Carroll's contract (6'6)
Desagana Diop's contract (7'0)
Eduardo Najera' contract (6'8)
Our lineup is really, really undersized. I almost considered staring Kwame over my lottery pick Biyombo because of his size. But when I played a couple games, it wasn't even close. Biyombo was dunking, rebounding, and blocking amazingly well. Iggy gave my team a huge boost. I played just two games: a 111-99 win over Cleveland and a 90-77 loss to the Clips. Blake was dunking all over Boris Diaw. He had something like 25 in the first half, when I sized up and played Kwame, Biyombo, Singleton, Iggy, and Livingston at the same time. I think I actually played better with them.
So I simmed the rest of the season, pausing for one trade in the middle (again with Philadelphia): Carroll and Najera to the 76ers for Jason Kapono and some scrub signed to a one-year, minimum contract who I just went ahead and released. Kapono had a 96 rating for outside shooting, so I went ahead and confirmed.
We barely made the playoffs, with a 39-43 record- 8th seed. Lucky for us, Orlando tanked the last bit of the season, finished 37-45 and came 9th. Of course, we got beat by Miami, but we won one game. I got the 16th pick in next year's draft.
Overall, my team was pretty good individually. Iggy got his first All-Star appearance with 19 points and 7 rebounds per game, shooting 54% from the field. (S-Jax got his first one in PHI too, lol) DJ Augustin averaged 16/6, Biyombo was a pleasant surprise: He only had 6 points per game, but he had nine rebounds and two blocks as well in 36 minutes. Diaw kind of flopped, 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists in 32 minutes, but he'll likely be walking in free agency, clearing up about $9M in cap space.
For whatever reason, Matt Carroll actually started in Philadelphia (Turner was apparently traded away) and he averaged 14ppg, finished the season shooting 55% from outside.
Chris Singleton and Bismack Biyombo both made the All-Rookie Team, but there wasn't much competition. Irving only played 20 games all season with Minny after like three injuries, Kanter was behind Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap in Utah's rotation, Derrick Williams was stuck behind Antawn Jamison in Cleveland, and Leonard was injured a lot too.
I'm going after Chris Paul in free agency this year. I was able to rid myself of Carroll's and Najera's big contracts, but I'm still stuck with Kapono's and Diop's albatrosses for one more year. With Diaw coming off the books, is should be able to sign him- the question is, will he sign with me?
I hope so. If not, I'll have trade for him.
