Rip's not taking a buyout and the Bulls don't have anything to send for him.
Mon Jun 13, 2011 3:00 pm
Yeah I re-read sorry. What do you think about Jamal Crawford? I think hes a FA this summer.
Edit: @ Benji damn that's a bomber.
Mon Jun 13, 2011 3:16 pm
Guess Rip's off the table then. Next on the list.
Crawford would be good, but isn't there some bad blood following the trade that sent him away in 2004? I could be mistaken, if it's all water under the bridge then I'd say he's definitely an option to look at. Jason Richardson is another name to throw out there.
Mon Jun 13, 2011 3:19 pm
Well, I mean technically you guys can trade Deng or Boozer for him. (Or Rose+Noah+Brewer/Korver.)
Mon Jun 13, 2011 3:31 pm
Afflalo. Afflalo, consarnit.
Mon Jun 13, 2011 4:39 pm
Afflalo would be the best choice concerning the age factor as well. I'd love to have him but Denver ain't going to let him that easy.
Though if Crawford's and Bulls' front office relations are better now I would love to have him. I just love his style...

Afflalo, JR Smith, or Richardson would be good options, and, if they can get Iggy for Deng and a draft pick, they should go ahead with that. That's the best I can think of.

NO!Not Iguodala for Deng. For someone else maybe, but not for Deng!
Tue Jun 14, 2011 10:22 am
Deng has much more value than that after the season he had.
If you're going to look at Iguodala (which I wouldn't mind), then you probably only need to deal a couple of the reserves (some combo of Watson, Brewer, Asik (nooooo

) plus both of the Bulls' first rounders. Maybe throw in some protected firsts down the track.
Iggy does fit the bill of what Chicago needs.

Why not? We would be losing Deng's three point shooting but that can be replaced if we can find a great shooter/scorer at the sg spot. Deng's defense is great but Iggy is also a great defender. I couldn't tell you who's better defensively but both are great. We might need to check with Benji to see who's better. We do know Iguodala made the all-defensive team. I do like Deng his three point shooting but what good is it if he struggles like he did in the Miami series. He also is somewhat responsible for LeBron having those great fourth quarter performances in the Bulls/Heat series. The Sixers did not have much success against the Big 3 attack but I do remember Iguodala doing a pretty good job of not allowing LeBron too many scoring opportunities. Iguodala is also a rare breed of sf's. With him you're getting almost everything LeBron brings to the table except for scoring. He's athletic, can rebound the ball, a great defender, can play the passing lanes and sees the floor well. I wouldn't be a fan of letting Deng go either but for Iguodala I might give it a chance to play out. Plus if you're going to get Iguodala then you're going to have to rid of something. The Bulls have very little cap space as of right now. We also have to be aware that Rose is still on his rookie contract and there will come a point and time we will have to re-sign him and offer him much more than he's being paid now.

what other players fit the bill of big guard, can handle the rock, shoot from long range, play defense?
Iguodala
Bryant
Ginobili
Joe Johnson
Paul Pierce
LeJames Bron
Wade
Maybe Brandon Roy
That's a small group and 6 of those guys are unlikely to be dealt. I'll prolly missed a few.
Jackson's had that incident back in his pacers days but since then- anything else? He was a key player on the GSW team that upset the Mavs. He's even the captain for the current Charlotte team. Has a penchant for hitting clutch shots and playing through injuries. And his contract only runs until 2013 and he's getting paid the least among that group of players
i think the MLE should be enough to pry away Afflalo from Denver? If not him- then JR Smith. I can't see Denver keeping all those wing players
RE: Deng vs Iguodala. i think Deng has hit his ceiling. not such a bad thing- he did have a solid season. Is deng's ceiling a better fit for the team vs. having Iguodala's athleticism, ball handling, but shaky jumper??? Is Philly even willing to trade him for Deng and some other junk?

Good point, I suppose a few isolated incidents have stuck in my mind and I can't name anything recent. I stand corrected.
Afflalo would be a fine choice too but I could see Denver matching the MLE. If they're willing to let Smith go to keep Afflalo then he'd be another good option to pursue, but it wouldn't shock me completely if they kept both. Chandler's the only other swingman on the roster and he'll be a free agent as well. Definitely worth pursuing though, great pick-up if they can make it happen.
Deng for Iggy...tough call. Contracts are about the same, I like what Iguodala brings to the table but I was very impressed with the season Deng had and the way he settled into the role of being the third man in the pecking order. A year ago, I probably wouldn't have hesitated on making a deal like that but now, I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Deng is untouchable but I don't think Iguodala is a can't-miss deal at the moment or that it would be a move that would make the team that much better. And as AG said, is it even a deal Philadelphia would consider in the first place? If I went down I could get on board with it but my gut feeling is that they don't need to make that deal.

Not a bad day, really. Butler is probably going to spend most of his time with the Iowa Energy, so there's no real risk. Mirotic is the interesting one. Fruschilla said that he had lottery potential, but that his 4-year Spanish league contract was scaring teams away. By the time he's ready to come over, Boozer will be likely pushing retirement, so it's not a bad move.

We they let players like Honeycutt, Singlair, Mack and even Parsons slip away in the second round?? I believed that those player could sth and fit in the rotation, but whatever....
But Mirotic really is a great selection. I have seen him in several Euroleague games with Real Madrid and he's a really good player who, if he comes next or in 2 years, can really make an important impact from the bench.I consider him better than Asik as well.

I didn't have high expectations for the Draft, I figure the most significant changes will have to come through free agency or a trade. However, seems like there's some promise in those picks so I'd certainly say a solid draft for having lower picks.

Because they had traded their only second round pick as part of the deal for Mirotic?

But my point is that they could have taken anyone from those with their first round pick that they used to take Butler.

They didn't want to overpay for players they ranked lower?

sorry didn't want to hijack the offseason thread with bulls talk...
RE: asik for mayo
IMO you trade your backup center for a starting SG. i think it's a no brainer. the turkish hammer is somewhat of a spectacle but Mayo fills several (and bigger) needs- 3pt shooting, can create shots for himself, can handle the ball, can defend. and he's young
Roll with Gibson as your first big man off the bench and then sign a veteran big to split the minutes with Kurt Thomas as the next big man off the bench.
RE: George7- even without knowing what the cap will be- the bulls are not expected to be major players in the free agency. maybe if they are able to pull off a move where they dump salary will they be throwing around $ like they were last year.
Carter would be ok. i'll take on ring chasers as long they are happy with the ring chaser salary hehe
re: draft
i'm glad no duke players were taken. phew! haha. i think it was a smart move by Gar-Pax to get that euro and stash him. he won't affect their cap situation and he has no pressure to develop while he plays out his euro contract. maybe he'll stink like Rubio, no biggie.
no SG drafted. Gar-Pax still have some moves to make...
Sat Jun 25, 2011 8:56 am
I like both the Bulls' 1st Round picks. Yes, they need a SG but they can get that via trade.
Sat Jun 25, 2011 8:57 am
I'm straight on that bro. I actually like Asik. Mayo's ego would damage the teams chemistry.

Fair call. If they were to make such a trade, I wonder if they could squeeze one more year out of Kurt Thomas. He did a pretty admirable job while Noah was out last season.

And there goes the Bulls season if there's one:
Late in the regular season, Brian Scalabrine told the Tribune he might play in Europe next season as his professional career enters its final few seasons. Now that the NBA will lockout its players beginning at 11:01 p.m. Chicago time Thursday night, Scalabrine's plans will be set in motion quickly. "For me personally, if in the next 15 days it's still kind of like it is now, I'm just going to Europe and play," Scalabrine said in a phone interview. "The thing about that is you have to commit for the whole year and you have no out clauses whatsoever. I support the players and the union and want to see the (NBA) game stay great. But at the end of the day, with two years or so left of playing basketball, I'm not interested in watching billionaires fight. I just like the game too much. I like the camaraderie. I like to play. So why not do it in a great city in Europe and educate my family?"

Might as well blow it up as soon as they can.
In all seriousness though, he seems to be a good guy for a team to have around and he's had his moments throughout his career. One can certainly understand his position too, it's one thing for KG to be fine with sitting out the season and missing out on his $18.8 million (or so he claims) but if the opportunity is there for someone like Scalabrine to play overseas, you can't fault him for taking it. He's a free agent, after all.
