I kinda want to like that game, but I never got the first one (I played the demo though) because I found the combat too boring, and from I've seen the sequel seems similar in that regard, plus the voicing sounds awful...

I started Crysis 2 on PC and while it's not as impressive as when the first one came out, it's still pretty damn sweet, the best looking video game to date, at least until Battlefield 3 comes out.
My only gripe is that Crytek inexplicably didn't include any in-game graphic settings, only a general setting (high, very high or extreme). It's easy to fix by creating a .cfg file in the game directory, but it's still pretty lazy on their part. Also, the FOV is messed up and the one that controls the weapon you hold cannot be changed permanently because of a bug. At least, it's much more optimized than the first one out of the box and still looks fucking amazing.

I was about to finish the first game when I had to reformat my PC back then and wasn't able to back-up the saves. :(

Voicing still sounds awful in the sequel, plus the faces have no emotion on dialogues. I am enjoying the hard combat though.

Fucking annoyed right now, I've encountered a stupid visual glitch in Crysis 2 that makes it impossible to keep playing. Everything was going well and at the start of one particular level, the weapon and sky textures go crazy and look corrupted. I've only seen one other guy on the official forums who seems to have the same issue, and there's no solution in sight yet. I've tried loading previous saves, trying different graphic settings, uninstalling and reinstalling the game,...

Well, since I still can't keep playing Crysis 2 for now, I gave in and bought The Witcher 2, downloading it from Steam right now. But damn, 16GB?!
The reviews are mostly great and what I've seen so far is pretty cool, so I hope the bugs that Lean mentioned won't be too annoying.

It appears that the glitches are also present on high-end PCs, especially the low frame-rate and frequent crashing of the game. Download the 1.1 patch on their website to fix it (and it removes the game's DRM too).

I currently stopped at the first boss fight. Must set my tactics. YRDEN! Trap it with Yrden!

gotta say, FIFA 12 with that impact engine looks pretty damn good. I'd stop saving for 11 and just get 12 when it comes out.

Same with NHL 12, I hope that tech hits the NBA game next year.

Yeah, I guess that's the plan now, Jao. I'm gonna buy a few of the really old, cheaper games for PS3.

I haven't even got a chance to really play it yesterday, I've been too busy looking for a way to get my gamepad recognized in that game...Of course, it's only for fucking x360 controllers as usual, so I'm trying to use an emulator to make it work but it turns out to be pretty complicated so far.
Since I haven't played the first one, I was also trying to get a little more familiar with the story and game mechanics. So far, no crash or major glitch though, and it looks pretty amazing. Plus, Triss... :hump:

is it like "real-time physics"? yeah in fifa 11 you do notice some of the same animations over and over again.

The Witcher 2 is quite good. The start is sorta linear so far but I'm assuming it'll become a bit more open world after that. The inventory and various interfaces are not convenient at all, but it's easily forgiven. I still suck at combat, which was my main concern in the first place, but I'm getting there. I managed to get my gamepad to work with it, and while I usually prefer keyboard-mouse far more, I gotta admit that the gamepad is a better fit for this type of gameplay.
Mostly, the game is absolutely gorgeous.

But there is no support for 4:3 monitors. (though I guess I'm the only one who uses such :lame: )

It took me more than an hour to finish the Prologue quest where you have to kill guards on the way to the castle with the dragon breathing fire everywhere, just remember to always use Quen for protection.

Textures are really high, only the facial animations ruin it for me.

That's exactly where it also took me forever to advance, which got me concerned since it was the very first combat scene... That's also where I couldn't decide whether to use the keyboard or the gamepad to play. And I only play on "normal" mode, not even hard or extreme...
As far as the graphics, the facial animations certainly look a little frozen at times, but given the quality of the textures I can't say I really mind. I play at 1920x1080 with all settings to max, except no ubersampling since it's not really feasible without multiple GPU, and without the motion blur which I thought was excessive. The cutscenes and the environments are just mindblowing in this game.
Now I only wish I could fully understand how to use crafting and diagrams...

This is what I like the first Witcher: the depth of the RPG elements using these concepts.

Crafting is the basics of the game's alchemy branch. Collecting herbs, monster limbs, etc are helpful to make potions and bombs (health potions like Swallow however, cannot be drank during combat unlike The Witcher 1 -- it only boosts your vitality regeneration during combat and can only be drank by meditating), these stuff are then classified as elements (or ingredients, I don't remember). You collect recipes of potions from stores, or from loots. Collecting a potion recipe enables you to record it automatically on your journal.

Diagrams are basically the same, only for traps, weapons, and armor. Also, you have to go to a blacksmith to craft an item based on the diagram. You also have to collect the necessary materials for the item to be created.

Seems that it is a good game. I aint really a RPG fan, but if its a good game, I can give it a try. Still, got to complete some of my other games when I pick up a new one.
